Amidst the chaos of the last week of course I didn't have enough to deal with so why not add to it.

Actually been shopping off and on for a while now - my little GMC was getting a bit tired lugging the boat around and the kids knees were hitting the seatbacks.

2005 F350 Lariat, V10, only 49k miles with every option I'd want and then some. Nice setup with small lift, 35's, sunroof, leather and power everything, nice leer canopy, and drop down DVD console to keep the kids busy.

I know all you diesel lovers are going to cringe at "V-10" LOL but for me it made sense. Most of my trips are pretty short and I don't pull often enough or big enough to really justify spending an extra $10k for a comparably equipped oil burner with low miles.

Looked all over the country on CL and autotrader and ended up finding it almost in my own backyard. Can't wait to hook up to the boat!

Nice! I'd love to get a big truck like that, but given that I drive a lot it wouldn't be very practical - hrmmmm, I'm known for my impractical impulse buys...

Very nice looking Rig man, I think you actually did better buying the V10 then the 6.0 in it, as you would be doing maintenance more often and i dont see you as having time for all that LOL.

I do see you will be spending about 1500-1800 on new rubber by the end of the year though.

When your ready for tires there's a few brand i can have you look at that have great looks, great ride and tread wear, the ones on my rig have 10K on them already and they barley show any wear and that's with my stomping the skinny pedal all the time LOL.

Let me know if you want to get those Windows tinted, i know a Cash only guy in town who does excellent work and its pretty cheap, he did Claudia's VW last year for 125, and my boat for 225, and i forwarded him to Jake and his buddy for their boats as well.

Id highly recommend a Bed Rug like mine has for that thing, Its soft on the knees, and makes camping out in the back a lot nicer if you just do an overnight at the lake.

You realize you will never be able to goto a Half Ton truck again, once you get used to all the space in the 3/4 or 1 ton when you sit in a 1/2 ton it just feels smaller.

I will say though, i keep looking at the 1/2 ton Ecoboost, and Rams but whats really holding me back is i know ill miss the big pulling power and i love the gigantic bed on this truck when we go camping and boating for a week at a time.

New rubber is a must but I may be able to drag it out a few more months. The toyos on it racked up a respectable 44k miles according to the receipt I found. The original owner was the kind of guy who took it straight off the lot to get wheels/tires, lift, canopy etc. before it saw his driveway. I doubt I'll do the bed rug as I may take the canopy off on occasion. Tintwise, going to match the front windows to the rest. Found I like being able to actually see when I go to backup.:p May have to explore a nice touch screen HU and backup camera at some point.

Nice ride . I have run the numbers on diesel vs. gas as far as overall usage and the diesel wins. I don't use mine everyday , it sits in the garage waiting to either haul or tow something. What I have heard with the ford v 10 used to be the spark plug issue. I would think that would be addressed by now. If I were to build my " dream truck " It would be as follows: Ford crew cab long bed, pre 2003 cummins 5.9l 24 valve diesel, older non computer controlled detroit allison 5 speed auto . Maybe someday ... just takes money.

If my neighbor ever gets his boat back from kingpin we plan to have our windshields tinted by Mikes guy (they've had it for a month). Go ahead and plan 2k for tires and go to 37x13.5's! 50k is right on the mark for tread life on those, which is awesome for a mud tire.

Old I pic posted before, but here's the 37's..,ziiiiiiiiipp! It sure looks like you have a 6" lift like this one but I would have to see it in person to verify.

Well they switched subs (plural now :)) for the third time and they were back ordered so he just left it there. They still aren't Exile subs so maybe fourth time will be a charm? Depends on how bad you hurt him this summer, he's kind of a one upper :)

Really thinking it's just a 4-inch lift but you never know. 37's? Nah - it's tall enough already!

I'm actually liking it kind of quiet - weird I know. My GMC had a K&N intake on it and a flowmaster out back. Loud in a good hot rod kind of way usually but then droning agony loud pulling up hills.

The DVD screen was DOA and I couldn't find any fuses blown so pulled the monitor down today and tore it apart. Resoldered all the pins on the main circuit board, put it all back together, bingo - we have video! Also discovered that the speakers have indeed been replaced with Pioneers all around. Not really sure what they are or what they can handle - they are that weird 4x6 size.

The stereo is definitely lacking compared to the old truck's setup. May have to do something about that sooner than later.

Only put about 30 miles on it so far but totally loving it! Long overdue upgrade.

I think you have these;

I used to do some stereo stuff in Ford Rangers that I used to own, several years ago. I thought they sounded nice when put on a regular amp to give them some decent power.

That could be - haven't figured out what stock size is. These pioneer's have kind of a yellow mesh finish though - maybe just an older model.

F350 is 4inch lift from the factory you can double check by measuring the rear blocks on the rear axle. Also you will know if its a factory kit because they normally bolt the brake lines on the block. IDK why but they do LOL.

Yes i noticed it wasnt the factory speakers. I found the Polks everyone likes for there boats works really well in the truck, thats what i did on my 06.

I havnt done any stereo changes to the new one because it had the audiofile system and actually sounds pretty dam nice, plus it has 4 separate tweeters.

Did a little more poking around - it's an aftermarket SuperLift 4" kit.

The stereo is sounding more and more pitiful compared to the Kenwood system the old truck has. Started looking into a sub and touch screen HU with backup cam and probably a little 5ch amp to power it all. Nothing crazy big. Oh wait - tires, yeah, lets look at tires. Oh wait, tint, hmmm, yeah need tint. Oh wait look, other shiny stuff......

And a year later finally an update. STEREO INSTALL TIME

This was probably one of the smaller yet most complex stereo installs I've done in a while.

New Kenwood DVD HU
Clarion 4ch Amp - that cool little brick sized 4ch Class D.
Backup camera

Sounds simple- right?

Add to that steering wheel controls and programming. Wiring the new HU to receive Audio from the existing DVD player under the seat that goes to a roof mounted 11" drop down screen. Wiring the HU video output to the secondary AV input on the 11" monitor; so the HU DVD and roof monitor can play separately, or both can play off the HU. Add in USB cable for Ipod, Aux in line for other audio input, Parking brake bypass for DVD on the road.

Only took 9 hours Sat plus 2 hours troubleshooting Sun morning.

Amp is so small it easily tucked into the glove box and mounted on the back wall. Plenty of room for manuals and crap still.

And probably the best part - backup cam! I've been drooling for one ever since seeing Moombadaze post when he got his new RAM.

The little Clarion definitely pumps whatever these Pioneer aftermarket speakers are much cleaner. In hindsight I'm kind of wishing I would have splurged for a sub and sub-amp but I didn't want to do the amount of surgery required in order to stuff one behind the rear seats. The rear power window takes up a good chunk of space and even though it's a crew cab there's just not much room back there.

Ah well - rockin for now!

Berg, nice looking install. I have an '01 F250 4x PSD that I purchased new and a few years ago I installed a back up camera. You get used to it real quick. I put my sub in an enclosure under the front 40/60 middle seat bottom (or do you have buckets?) I currently run a small W3-10" but it does help with the tunes.

I painted a little orange cross on my trailer ball receivers' to help in the bright sunlight. I also installed in the rear bumper some LED lights that come on when the truck is in reverse which really helps.

Again, good looking install to go with your now new Moomba!

Thanks guys -

Viking - it's a license plate frame style. BOYO Vision 300 something. Seems ok - not amazingly clear. The instructions/manual for the thing don't exist so I don't know if I can focus it more or not. Biggest concern was the length of the included cable. I had a whopping 4" to spare running it from the tail up the frame and through the firewall to the HU. Biggest complaint was the microscopic power leads on the stupid thing. I mean we're talking like 4lb fishing line small. Had to strip the insulation with an exacto knife. Then I had to resolder them 3 different times because every time I'd move it around one would snap loose.

Supposedly this cam has the infrared night vision feature but I've yet to try that out or back up to a trailer for hooking up. All in good time.

Eric - I have the triple split front bench. Under that center seat is where the other DVD player lives and even though it's small, there's not much space under there to begin with! How in the world did you stuff a 10 in there? Or I guess your 60/40 may have more room? And where does your amp live?

Looking Good! Always looking for some good ideas you guys throw out there. I splurged last year and bought a new 13 Ram 2500 diesel. Need wheels and tires, still have stock. How do you like the Shell on the bed? thinking I might want one too.

bergermaister
04-16-2014, 10:52 AM
Bought this truck pretty much optioned out like you see. Only thing I've done is new tires and the stereo.

I personally would love to be able to take the shell off and only use it as needed like I did on my older GMC. However I don't have a good storage spot and I'm afraid I'd ding up the paint on this one since it is the style that hangs over the bed rail just slightly. It is nice though to toss stuff back there and lock it up. Dark windows and sits high so not easy for a passerby to just look right in. If i didn't have the shell I'd definitely put on a tonneau.

Berg, that is an easy one. Instead of spending a bunch of hours in my shop building an enclosure (like I did for my boat), I used a StealthBox (http://www.jlaudio.com/product/54216.103634.2096.104759.1009454/Ford_SuperDuty_%2798-%2708)

Living in NorCal I can spend that much in fuel in little over a week, so it is a no brainier for me. It is totally hidden and sounds pretty good for a relatively mid sized sub

I would love a JL stealth box but they don't make a rear dual system for my duramax. Only one available would require gutting my center console. And they don't make one for my daily driver Acura TL. I need to re-think my next vehicle purchase!
My old Ram 1500 had one for it and it rock'd.
