I was going to buy the ws-420 this week but checked on the Wetsounds site and noticed that the pictures for the 420 had changed. It looks like it's now the 420SQ and has 3 zone controls. I assume the 3rd is the sub? It also looks like they added a main volume control knob. Has anyone heard anything about this or used it yet? I really like the idea of the sub being able to be controlled separately as well as the main volume control but wanted to see if you guys knew anything about it first...

The Wetsounds EQ is all new with a number of revisions. And it is in stock as of now.
Yes, master volume control.
Yes, independent bass level control so you can sum bass with either zone. Still has separate tower and in-boat zone controls.
Low noise.
Still has the P.A. system.
Still has independent 4-band EQs for the tower and in-boat zones!!!
Six channel discrete outputs and pro quality construction that you will not find on other EQs.

Interesting, glad they are listening.
they finally made the buttons bigger on some control, looks like the inboat / tower control might be hard to get to right between those master volume and sub control.

Was the sub frequency attenuation knob removed in favor of a sub volume knob?

Drew that's an older video for the originally product, looks like some of the functionality has changed slightly, for the positive. I wish I pulled my old one from the old boat....

Joe,
Yes, in a sense. They did away with the paragraphic bass EQ. Previously you could adjust both the turnover frequency and the gain. Most users didn't understand the feature and didn't use it correctly. Although I liked it. Now they are using a dual zone four band graphic (separate in-boat and tower equalization) and have added the conventional bass level control as that is what many requested.

Are you able to turn up the bass volume without turning up the boat or tower speakers?

That is correct.

I do not see a switch for changing illumination color. Is that function gone? If so, what color is it?

Love these changes and finally have a compelling reason to upgrade the trusty Clarion. Can't wait to shout at jetskiers, coach the newbies, and have a party cove karaoke party!

It's a hard jumper change inside the case. Blue or red

Just got mine in the mail and plugged it in this weekend just to play around and out of the box it comes blue - looks SWEET. Haven't fully installed it yet but really cool unit and couldn't be happier so far. I've never had an EQ on the boat before but the master volume control knob is so much easier to adjust than the smaller tower/in boat knob and seems like it will be a life saver. The sub control is also a huge plus as different drivers have different preferences for bass.

Any of you guys actually been using the PA system? I was all excited about being able to (1) adjust volume independently and (2) yell at people. But in reality the PA has been used maybe 2-3 times just messing around. Moving forward I'm not sure if I need/want it.

When we visited Las Vegas last year & Mr. Sullivan was kind enough to let me drive his XLV, I used it to give instruction to the girls while they were surfing and want one for this season.

Run a 3.5 mm extension cable and hand the mic over to the observer.

Hell, then I'd end up having to listen to my wife yelling at me AMPLIFIED. Don't need that.

We use ours all the time when teaching newbies. If you don't have a lot of learners, I don't see the need for it.

Except to yell back at your wife.
