Going through my dads office last weekend and found this pic of me skiing (wow I forgot I used to do that!) at lake billy chinook circa late '80's.

If it were easy, they would call it wakeboarding. If it was even easier, then they would call it wakesurfing.

Yea, but they'd call it wakeboarding or wakesurfing if it was cool too.

It was epic! You cut back and forth across the wake and throw a wall of water up when you turn. And you don't even want a wake.

Awesome photo! Takes me back to where I grew up skiing the Northern California Delta and hanging at Lost Isle.
Went throught he V-drives with tunnel rams or blowers, moved onto jets then back to bigger V-drives (my last one was a true 100+ mph on gps Schiada).
We used to always compete at the beginning of the season to see who could dip an elbow first! Had a lot of hairy wipe outs.

I picked up the boat from the detail shop. After a wash to get rid of the winter grime and a coat of wax had our boat looking better than when we bought it.
We plan on getting in next weekend, but the water is only 49, so it won't be a long set. 16973

Scottie- Sweet ride!
Eric- 100 on the water is insane! That pic is behind his SS class race boat after he converted it to a ski boat. The last boat he owned was a Rogers mini day jet that he put a blown 468 in after getting smoked at Shasta too often by the California boys when it had a 454. It was good for 80mph and could stand on end and throw a 300' wall of water out the jetavator.
Of coarse I had my mom out on the Supra this summer and she tells me "this is such a great boat, you know all I ever wanted was a nice family boat"
Lol.

...Eric- 100 on the water is insane!..."
It was an insane ride! After I had Dustin Whipple install one of his family blowers and an EFI system, the thing would jump out of the water with the tranny (turbo 400) in second gear. If you had an open beverage, it would suck the liquid right out of the can while in your lap. It was a two-handed experience and even a bigger bear to ski behind if the driver wasn't used to it (and most wern't)
Sold that beauty which was my fasted top-end speed boat and bought a brand new shiney from the factory (shhhh) Natique with every option except the bigger motor. Most expensive and most fun (til I picked up my current '02 Moomba!) but what a bath I took on that Natique when I had to sell it to finish building my house. Oh well, as we say around here, problems to have...

Love the Bassets and the horns on the Holley! I still quake over the looks, smells and sounds of a big chevy with two holleys on top of tunnel ram. I tell my kids about growing up with a "Basset Tattoo" every summer. I almost picked up a super clean 21' Sanger mini-day cruiser from an old(er than me) fart in AZ a few months back, but figured I didn't need a third boat, my wife might shoot me and I would need to restock on AC/DC and Lynard Skynard cassette tapes!!!

The Schiadas are beautifully built rigs, that were designed to run fast in some slight chop, It actually looked kind of tame with the Whipple Charger, but when at the dock and fired up it turned a few heads up here in NorCal.
In SoCal, AZ and FL this boat is a pup!
I don't have too many photos and none of it in the water as I was always busy holding on!!
Schiadas gone, but I still have the Vette, painted silver and has new leather interior.

I have the tower off the boat so I can garage it rather than winterized it and uses the boat all year (doesn't fit under my 7'door). I guess I look like a distressed fishing boat.
There is a busy highway that runs by the river. Can't help but wonder if a passer by saw us listed over and got scared. There is a waterfall just down stream from our normal surf spot.
We could not look too distressed with my 2 and 5 year old dancing around doing the Harlem Shake.
The same thing happened when Berg and I were out in January.

For the record around here we call it the upper and lower Willamette river. A lot of us run the upper. You will most likely die if you hit the Oregon City falls dead in the water.

Got out yesterday for Maiden voyage.. High 70s.. but some wind.. Boat ran great.. I put a new Acme 1235 on before going out! LOVE IT.
A few first trip issues.. wakeplate and ballast didnt work.. UGH.. got home and realized i bumped the breaker in engine compartment when doing some winterizing.. all good now!
Forgot my wetsuit (confused as to where it was actually.. was wrong!) water was 61-62.. a little chilly for shorts and a rashguard.. but enjoyed getting back on board.. choppy so after a couple of passes along the dam, i rode about 3 miles toward the other end just for "endurance".. ouch i hurt today...
not many pics.. first is just floating.. second is view from my lot.. construction should start in May on boathouse. gotta get a seawall put in and get pilings ordered (5 weeks to order pilings.. ugh).. and then depend on the ONE guy who sets pilings..

TX Jam is on August 9-11 at Bethy Creek Resort in Riverside, TX. This is a Moomba/Supra reunion held for the past 3 years and hoping to keep going strong.
There is a thread on it in the Events section as well as a facebook page www.facebook.com/moombasuprajam
Clear your schedule and come out for a great weekend on the Trinity river - one of the best places to ride in Texas - mark my words.
Last year we had approx. 20 boats including a few people flying in from out of state and others making the tow from Louisiana.

Ha, no. I installed it all myself. Everything went fine until it was time to turn it all on. Flipped the switch and NOTHING. The radio is completely dead. The batteries are fully charged and I checked all the fuses and they are ok. Checked all the wires and everything is solid. Worked fine in October and nothing has changed. Except I swapped out an amp. I'm not sure what is going in but after 2 weekends straight of mods and one to go I'm tired of messing with it so I called AVC marine over by ATL Marine and I'm taking it to them tomorrow morning so they can figure it out.
On a positive note the drilling a hole in the transom below the waterline and installing a light went flawlessly...heh go figure...

I can make it for that sunday... I'll put it on the calendar!
Thanks for the invite.

We lost the last of our snow last week, and temps got into the 40's, which was warm enough for just a sweatshirt while I worked on my ballast upgrade out in the cold barn. And now we are back to snow again. I guess I will keep snowmobiling for a little while longer.

I agree with your assessment of the food but it's pretty hard to screw up a cold beer. They definitely have a captive audience and know they will no matter what. Sticking with a few choice items gets you through the need for food.

It was soo awesome to get to the lake again. Been way to long LOL.
Myself and Russ braved the cold PNW water with Wet Suits, 51 water temp 55 air temp spotted sun
Claudia and Carlos on the other hand went in with no wet suits, Carlos lasted about 30 minutes but was so cold when he came out he could hardly talk threw the teeth chatter.
Claudia really surprised us all because she doesn't even like 60 degree water. but she wanted to surf. LOL. She took 1 good pull and was done

We got out this weekend for the annual Crawfish and Cowboys festival in Onalaska on Lake Livingston. We only went to the festival and camped out Saturday night, spent Friday on the river and spent the night at the lake house. A couple of friends came with us Friday and a couple more came up Friday night and rode the river with us Sunday.
Friday was partly cloudy with an air temp of around 80 and water temp around 67-69. No suits needed, just trunks.

Didn't sleep much once the wind picked up, the noise woke us up and then we went outisde to put the chairs away so they wouldnt get blown away as well as take the lantern down. By 4 am it was so bad we decided to try and reposition the trucks to block it, didnt work, dont think i fell asleep after we originally woke up it was so loud.

Hey Dave,
While I was drooling over your pics since I'm still a month away from ice out I noticed the pic where your buddy is getting ready for an intense nasal flush that your wake is solid on one side, but washed out on the other. I had this problem in my old boat too when I was under 21mph but I only had a few hundred pounds of ballast which I attributed it too. I'm guessing you had the tanks full if he's pulling backflips and I thought it would clean up the wake on both sides.
The people I pull don't like going over 21mph, I like it around 22-22.5 mph where the wake was sharp for me on both sides. I'm hoping for a clean wake on both sides at 20+mph with a new 13 LSV. Was this pic a fluke or a weight distribution problem with passengers?

Weight distribution may have been a contributing factor since we take a lot of people out who do not understand how to clean the wake but also whenever someone is loading the line on one side of the boat it seems to always make the other side wash. im sure if he was riding directly behind the boat there would be very little to no wash on the opposite side. as long as the side im going into is clean im all good haha

I run the stock gravity 3 full with the 650 IBS in the nose. I prefer to run light for beginner riders but generally the beginners that go out with us do not want to ride first so I will fill it all up for me and then it becomes to big of a pain to drain for them then refill for someone else. So I typically run full up for everyone lol.
Drain for Heidi??? She says if I need that much weight then so does she lol
I think I'm going to start riding with only the center bag full for a some sets to work on form and technique tho

I'm curious why people change the setup that they normally ride to work on form?
The sport and the equipment has changed so much that the form or style of the tricks have changed as well. If Shapiro was to ride the boats now days with huge wakes, non stretch dyneema lines and current wakeboard tech but didn't change the way he does the tricks, he would either launch himself into orbit or rip his arms off at the shoulders because that was how they did the tricks back then. No height, lots of speed and massive amounts of rope tension to get spring effect. At the same time the current pros would yard sale themselves if they were to ride the equipment that Shapiro and the early guys rode.
My point is, in my opinion your style should yours not what anybody else says you should look like. My son and his good riding buddy both do 360s but they look totally different doing it. Tyler's 360 is more straight up pop and knees bent where his buddies is very little height and legs straight but they are both completing heelside 360s w2w. Same thing on their heel back rolls, his buddy does an old school heel backroll that is super fast high rope tension but very little height, where again Tyler goes straight up and has less rope tension because of the height he gets. Both are doing the same trick but it looks very different.
Ok, sorry if I was ranting! I'm done now.

But seriously, my thinking is if I can learn to load the line and pop off a small wake and get good height then when I load the boat up and I can even get higher. I won't be relying so much on a big wake to boot me or to compensate for my lack of technique.

Drain for Heidi??? She says if I need that much weight then so does she lol
Don't go telling Heide I was disrespecting her riding skills or said anything about draining for her! I just didn't think she was as crazy as you. I figured you loaded it all the way up for yourself.

David,
I'm with you. Whenever I'm trying to work on technique or a new trick, I slow it down to about 20.5 mph and fill only the center bag. Seems like it's easier to learn that way and the wipe-outs are much more forgiving lol

Now that is funny, I am always telling my family how crappy the food in China was!! They kept taking me to high end restaurants and feeding me steamed boney fish, duck heads and chicken feet. When I asked if I could get rice I was told that "rice is for poor people"

When I lived in the Philippines I was told that they the locals did not want to eat American dogs due to the rabies shot spoiling the meat.
Maybe that is just what my parents told me so I would not be worried about our dog.

It was kinda tricky to learn to do, but after several youtube videos and a walk to ease off frustration, I figured it out. You have to shoot at the highest frame rate per second the camera will allow in the resolution setting you want. so for the super slow motion shots, it's best to shoot at (in my case as I have the GoPro Silver) 720 with 60 fps. for speeding up, it is the same principle. More FPS there are, smoother it will be. I used iMovie to make this one. Once I learn and get better, if I REALLY like it I want to upgrade to Final Cut Pro.
But man it was neat to see all that. It was hard taking all the footage we really had and make a 1 minute video.

The Mojo surf wave has a smooth transition and a ton of push. It is so nice to have all the ballast hidden vs a bag on the port side seat in my XLV.
We did not have time to wakeboard yesterday. I had to get home to do Daddy duty.

Thanks LOL.
yea its getting close, i think another day out and ill get the regular dialed in.
The goofy is a whole nother animal. Honestly i think my 300+ lbs of Golf Cart Batteries and Amps are offsetting my wave. Even the boat sitting at rest will lean to the regular side about 2-3 inches when you look at the platform in the water LOL.
Also its been difficult to dial in because my wake plate is being weird. Shes at AWS now so they can see if they can figure it out.
You set it at say 75% at speed, then come to idle, and the needle will go all the way down to 0% and stay there when you speed up. So your constantly messing with it.

Heres a video of Russ near the end of the day.
Just Cell Phone video, XM9s are killing the cell mic LOL.
The wave is still is testing phase, i got a few ideas on what i want to try next.
The angle is a little misleading as well. Plus with the height of the rear of the Mojo, nearly 3 feet from the rear deck to the swim deck it makes the wave look shorter then it is. Id have to say at this point its pretty similar to the LSV in length, but im not as happy with it yet as i was my LSV.
More testing, more testing LOL.

Mike have you done any upgrades on the ballast in this boat. I know you were running a lot of weight on the last boat but I haven't heard anything out of you on the weight. Looks like the surf wake is good, I didn't know if you had the same bags in this boat.

I would meet up with you guys but I am going to be busy drilling big holes in the bottom of my boat. I am gutting the rest of the crappy (yes I do say crappy) original ballast system. I got a big box of goodies a week or so ago with all the fittings and stuff I need to upgrade. Feel free to drink a cold one for me.
