I lost my gas cap and bought one from the nearby store that "fit". I got stranded on the water and it seemed like the boat ran out of gas at apporximately 3/4 tank remaining. It occurred to me maybe the new cap was causing the problem. When I removed the cap a powerful air burst came out of the tank (i.e. it was under pressure). The boat started immediately after the cap was removed. Apparently, I bought a non-vented gas cap. Thus, does anyone know what type/brand/model of gas cap I should buy and where I can buy one? My boat is a 2005 outback carburated indmar assault engine.

Perko # 540-DPG-99A ???????? That's what a poster in this thread answered to a similar question.

I would probably call Atlanta Marine and have them look it up though. Good luck!

That's the one I bought last year. I don't want to talk about why I needed it.

That's OK, we'll all just post our best guesses as to what happened. My guess: You wanted to do some diving near the gas pumps at the marina so you popped the safety chain off and dropped her into the deep dark water.

That looks like the cap I lost. Thanks to everyone for your help. My first time on this forum and I am impressed with how generous you all are.

Kind of you to say. Come back often. Post up some pics of the boat sporting that new gas cap!
