So I found a 2003 outback, looks very nice but wanted to get opinions on use for surfing, boarding hanging out. 500 hours for an 03 seems reasonable? I really liked talking to the guy, I just get warm fuzzies talking to him so I think I may grab it. Has the wake plate, ballast, no perfect pass. A jet ski hit the side, he took nice photos of the small damage, says he was quoted 450.00 to make it new looking. What are the opinions on the outback?

I have over 500 hours on an 06. I've seen claims the average hours per year is 50 so I'd say its hours are normal to low.

I'd consider getting your own quote if there is gel damage. It's not cheap, I've done it.

Someone else will be much better answering the outback specific questions.

I agree with KG, 500 hours on an 03 sounds low. I have just over 300 on an 08 and 200 of those I put on in the last 2 years.

What is a nice photo of jet ski inflicted damage? Be careful with structural damage. It may be a bigger issue. Personally, I doubt that I would purchase a boat with known damage from impact. Also, did this go to an insurance claim? That may affect your ability to get insurance on it.

While you can surf on an Outback, it takes a lot of weight.

You'll be looking for a boat again next year. Why is this guy selling? Looking for a v-drive?

Wasn't enough to meet the deductible. The front of my jetski that was crashed was 10 times worse & never had a problem with it

As long it runs we are confident we can sell it up here for what we paid if not more. You guys see how I am running all over the place, all the ones in this price range go fast. It has everything I want on it so I am not going to stick money into it for the wish list. God I hope I dont have to stick money in for unknowns!

Guy is selling cause he is older, his kids are gone & he bought some huge Regal to entertain his friends and hoes.

Can you surf an Outback? Sure, but it comes with some downside just as slalom skiing behind a v-drive does.

Stay patient. Keep looking. Take some Ritalin.

Link to it. Don't think it will get sniped so might as well get some thoughts on it.

That damage doesn't scare me, it's a big red flag saying discount!!! Most people are going to whine & complain about it and pass on the boat, you can use this to bring the price way down.. :)

That looks like v drive in the first pic. If it is get an estimate to fix it , gel coat is not hard to fix, but is hard to get to match perfect.

My situation might be a little different bc I had an actual knick but it was way smaller, white, and on the bottom of boat but I think I remember paying 400. I would think that yellow is going to be difficult to fix "right". Then again, it may not need to be fixed with that much attention to detail.

JV, you are correct! I didn't even look at the pics, only read Outback. If that boat checks out well mechanically, you may have found a winner!

Drew I think it's an outback Lsv with tower.

Any body shop should be able to fix it up better than it is now. Looks like a deal in the making.

Thats better gentlemen! I wouldn't just grab a pile of [dookey], I could have bought two piles of [poopy] locally, for more! We agreed to pay asking price & he is delivering so we are good with it. I got back an approx 400 quote for that repair myself. I don't wanna say it is done cause I thought it was last time, but I think this one is happening. Yes it is a Vdrive, it looks clean whoever said the boats are going quick is not lying! The past 25k gets harder but every boat I have found under 23k that is nice is gone or they have someone coming to get it. I have no patience & I am more then confident I will have no problem selling if need be or we want to upgrade. I like this pyt better, wont bother me when it is parked for 7 months & our pyt is very low. I don't see how dudes that are not rich can look at their 40k boats with the $400.00 a month pyt. I have a friend who had a sick Supra, made the mistake of buying new, but he had to bring to bring 8k to closing to get rid of the boat.

We are meeting at a boat shop & I am doing a pre buy before purchase is finalized. How did you find the link Taco?

Just a little advice, do the transaction via Ebay which comes with buyer protection. As someone that used to sell stuff on ebay buyer protection always favors the buyer and screws the sellers. Buy the boat and for 45 days you can file a claim for any reason even if the add says "As is" or "no refunds/returns"... Don't like the color after 30 days you can almost force the buyer to refund part or all your money..Nice eh?

Actually I can't, I need all the paperwork & I suppose maybe I could deposit the money in my checking & do it?

NOBODY is going to buy it with the damage so get your discount. It's "above the line" so no big deal. The top side is just a cap. They can fix this no prob. Congrats! Looks like you got yourself a nice v-drive!

Well gents, I don't know wth it is with Texas but this guys paper work is a mess, lien holder, boat not in hi name, pressuring me for a deposit before he got the paper work situated so I walked. Deff probably for the best. I'm taking some ridlin vicodin and drinking so we will see what other trouble I can find in a different state. Stay tuned!

Boat is not is the seller name, huge red flag. Can't sell something that is not your's; plus a lien. Its a shame you didnt get the boat like you were hoping but congrates on recognizing a bad situation and walking. Some people would just walk into that mess.

This one has been for sale for a while and price has dropped a few times. Probably 15-20 min from my house. Can't say I'm a big fan of the blue windshield but maybe it looks better in person. Would leave a LOT of room in the budget for mods. I could go scope it and take pics if you want.

Delivery wise - may even be able to help you out somehow if it were a go.

I think that top boat is in the mid to upper 20's and dealer could install PP. Already has ballast and upgraded stereo. Low hours.

KG, will they remove the TX reg numbers? I think they might scare racer off at this point.

02-15-2013, 03:52 PM
Ha, of course they can!

I was also serious about them installing perfect pass as I've talked to them about it on that boat specifically. I don't mind going and checking it out in person if you are seriously interested ... for cosmetic. The dealership should have the mechanical side covered.

Some very nice boats guys but the distance is too much & adds a thousand easy to any price between gas & hotel. As much as I would like an adventure we cut back vac time to two a weeks a year & I only have 4 days left to use on our lake Powell trip this summer so we are trying to stay semi close to home. Minus Texas. God I love that state too but now I gotta a find another place to run away to when the Californization is complete here. But this making deals site unseen gets me frazzled, panicky, so I am going to scale back for a bit & regroup.

Working with a known dealer might take away some of those concerns, just throwing it out there.

dealership best way to go and if KG checks it out and says it's good to go that's as good as gold in my book. Ain't that bad if a trip racer, should give it serious consideration.

Well gents, we decided on a Malibu for a great price, guy had his paperwork in order, no back & forth, bank had the loan done in a day. Older guy, boat was very well taken care of, low hours. So instead of joining the Moomba ranks I have joined the Malibu ranks. Their forum sucks though so I plan to still hang around here, if that's okay. Still starts with a M, am I rite?

Took the day off to go pick it up & a blizzard hits. I am really starting to think the powers that be do not want me to own a new boat this year....Told the woman we can return the money & go buy new if she would like. Laughed at me. Never supports my ideas. Waiting for the plows & I am southern bound.
