Replace Ignition Wires?

I had my boat winterized, and the guy looked at the ignition wires and commented there were the originals. He suggested I replace them. The boat is a 2003, with just under 500 hours on it. I am the third owner, so I will assume average wear and tear. Is this a normal maintenance thing to do, or just a way to drum up business?

I had to replace some of the worn out female connectors and one wire in the dash. Not sure if you are referring to the same location?

Bah.. wrote this before coffee. He was suggesting the spark plug wires.

Unless the wires are worn or rusted at the connections, or hard and brittle from the connection point inside the harness then you shouldnt need to replace them.

Rewiring a boat is not considered normal maintenance.

Replacing Hoses, belts, fluids, and lights is considered normal maintenance.

You might try to find Indmar's recommended tune up timeline.

Typically I'd say this is a drum up for business. However, I set on the sidelines close to 2 or 3 weeks this past summer and a full tune up was the answer. I'd have to pull the invoice to see what all was done but I think plug wires were included. I was around that same hour mark on an 06. If you do go ahead and pay to have it done, I'd look into getting the full service done and not just the plug wires. It wasn't cheap, though, and you could be just fine? But there is a recommended tune up mark that indmar recommends.

Ohh well yes generaly there is a time limit to replace spark plug wires.

I dont know what Idmar says but the SC dealer here AWS does them as part of the 100hr service.

Honestly if thats all you need done, you can do it yourself. Just switch 1 wire at a time so you dont mix up the firing order
