Rookie went to boat show: HELP v. LSV

The wife and stepson fell in love with an LSV.
We live on beautiful Lake Guntersville. Stepson is 19.

We have owned a Fish/Ski, a pontoon and a waverunner along with the standard jon boat.
We really liked the boat. I just worry it is too much boat for a group that has never owned an all out ski boat. Stepson does love to knee board and I believe he would like to surf and wake.

Thoughts? Be honest. Jumping in too deep? The dealer wants to set up a time to bring one out to play with.
If we go all in, please suggest options for 42 year old rookies.

If you own all those other boat/watercraft an inboard wake boat seem like the next step in the process. You already have knowledge about boats and being out on lakes. Others have said that they were glad when they made the jump from a regular I/O to a boat such as Moomba. I would definately consider it if it is on your want list. I would not be concerned of being overwhelmed.

I think the LSV is about the perfectly sized boat. Big enough for large family/crew and still able to be garage kept.

your stepson will be able to do all the water sports with the stock boat, and with a few ballast upgrades there will be no reason to upgrade the boat as his abilities improve.

options, now that is a tough one. some of the items I got that im really happy about were the upgraded surf motor, bow speakers, bimini top, logo snapin carpet, depth finder, double axle trailer, swivel tounge .

one option i really wish i had not cheaped on was the torsion axles-so much quieter.

the boat at the show had the bow cushion, pop up cleats, swivel wakeboard holders, prop upgrade, cooler, bimini, bow speakers and amp, depth finder, dual batteries and a few graphic options refunded since it was at a show

You will fall in love with the LSV. Go for it!

Just get a few pointers on reverse and docking since there is no steering control in reverse. The stern will want to kick to the right in reverse. Not a problem just a learning experience with an inboard. After a few times it becomes second nature.

The LSV can throw a really good surf wave when weighted correctly.

Do it. LSVis a great boat. We went from an 18 I/O to the LSV last year and could not be happier. I think it is easier to drive and maintain than my I/O was.

I've got a 15 and 17 year old girls and they love it. We ski, wakeboard and surf.

Same here.... just bought a new lsv last year and couldn't be happier. My wife, son(11) and daughter(8) all learned to wakeboard and surf. My wife was 100 percent against getting a new boat last year because our 2008 I/O was in amazing shape......now when she gets loaded she tells all her friends how much she loves the boat and surfing! she will never admit it to me though!
I don't think you will regret it!

very easily with the stock ballast as its a good wave for new surfers

better yet, swap out your surfing side rear bag for a 1100lb bag and add a IBS (ballast under bow seats) and its a great wave

I bought my LSV 2 years ago and it is my first boat ever and is definitely not hard to handle or anything. It's sound like you have way more boating experience than me so I think you should be good to go!

I basically did the same thing David did. I knew nothing about wakeboarding, nothing about boating, only except that I loved being on a boat. Didn't matter what kind. But then I got my LSV and my life completely changed 100% for the better. The lifestyle, the friends, the memories, the lessons learned (Umm, is the plug in?! :eek:) all add up to how much I am so thankful I took the plunge into the Moomba world. I guarantee you will not have any doubts or regrets with this boat!

I did the same thing RD and Sicktc did...Year before last we bought a Moomba LS. Was my first boat. Sure, I had been around boats my whole life since my dad had them but this one was mine. We sold it after the first summer. Then the next spring we bought a 2011 LSV and it has been the greatest thing I've ever bought. We've met so many people and have made so many memories in just the first summer and are anxious to pick it up again here in a couple of months. Welcome to the family and watch out for the mod bug...when he bites he bites hard and doesn't let go!
