Stuart , Good Lord!!!

What are the normal waves like on a normal day? . A 24ft wave seems like a tsunami on a lake....

I guess you could say that on a normal day waves are in a 1-3 or 2-5 foot range. I take the Outback on Lake Michigan only when waves are less than 1 foot or glass smooth, which happens in summer when wind direction is out of the SSW.

In 1975, a 729-foot iron ore freighter and its crew of 28 went down on Lake Superior in conditions similar to the ones we are seeing today and tomorrow on Lake Michigan.

Here's a "normal" day for water skiing on Lake Michigan. This evening, will post a picture of the lake's current condition.

New Guy - That's the one. The Great Lakes can be vicious. But today, not too bad. Am back from Lake Michigan. Waves appear no bigger than five to seven feet. Long way to go if they are going to reach heights of twenty feet or more. Tomorrow will take another look. - Deerfield

It sounds like the south of the lake by Gary, IN will be getting the bigger waves.

Well the storm is almost past and there's just devastation everywhere. I can't even get to our house at the shore to assess damage.

Hope everyone here who has been affected is ok, it's going to be a long week of cleanup. I still don't know how my Supra is, going to check on it in a bit.

Took these pictures an hour ago from the boat launch area.

Waves are in the seven to nine foot range. The big one, waves over twenty feet, must be away from shore out in the open water or at the lake's southernmost point.

Lake Michigan is a nasty mess!

Hey everyone, here's an update for you all from NJ. The Supra is fine, thank god! I had actually brought it inland on Friday and stored it at my fathers house and it came out unscathed thankfully even though he has a ton of trees.

Our shorehouse however, did not. And the rest of the neighborhood. What I saw today was just absolute devastation. I was in awe. Our house is on a lagoon which leads to the bay and there's a creek across the street which also leads to the bay. I can't imagine what Long Beach Island looks like but they aren't letting people on the barrier islands for at least 10 days. They wouldn't let you drive to the houses from the main road, you had to park and then actually sneak past the cops because they were directed to not let anyone to their house down towards mine because the streets were still flooded. Water is at the bulkheads when I left and there's still high tides to come. Uugghh!

I saw boats and cars sitting in the middle of the road, a persons entire back of their house blown out. It was just insane.

Our house sits on 4.5 ft stilts and we had water and mud all over our first floor. Everything is ruined. Going back tomorrow to do some more clean up, what a mess. Power is still out there and all over Jersey, luckily my main place has power. We lucked out there.

But, no one was hurt and that is the important thing.

Check out these pics!

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/31/yhy6uryz.jpgthis boat usually sits on a nice lift, it was in the neighbors back yard. I have no idea how they are going to get it out of there. Their lift is mangled..

Thank you for all the well wishes folks. To anyone affected by this storm my heart goes out to you and your family. This storm was just awful. I can't imagine the cost of it. The holidays are going to be no fun this year.

Glad to hear the Supra is OK. Sorry about the damage. Hurricanes really make us appreciate the folks who live in tornado alleys. At least we get a few days warning. They get minutes with the same devastation or worse. I hope you see neighbors taking care of neighbors and all come out better for it. It will be all right again. It will just take a while.

C&S - feel for you & your family. It's tough, nearly impossible, but try and stay focused on the positives! While a huge step back, all that stuff is just that - stuff. It can be fixed/replaced and made whole again. Sounds like you're all safe & sound. Count those blessings and enjoy the Holidays!

No pics of them actually surfing though.
