Was winterizing my 2011 Outback V. Pulled the drain plug in the muffler. Went to put it back in and it stripped out. Any good ideas for a fix?

Any pics? Is it just a plug in the cast iron? Cast iron plug too?

Muffler should be fiberglass, just get a slight larger thread size and it should screw right in

It is fiberglas. Can't tell if its reinforced with a nut on the inside or if the threads of the bolt just cut into the fiberglas. I'll try a larger screw and report back.:)

Glad we don't need to drain the mufflers on the DDs. I'd have to remove the engine cover, three rear panels and the floor to get to them. I did it once this year to tighten the gland nut. I do blow out quite a bit of water when I turn over the engine with the coil removed.

Zabooda thats a lot of work LOL.

Its not to hard on the V drives, its sits in the front of the ingine and you open the panel to the port locker and the drain screw is right there on the edge. The biggest pain is when changing the impeller, its muffler is right in your way.

Jeff,

I have the same issue on my LSV, did a larger bolt work? the original looks to be 1/4-20 size bolt.

Paul,

did you find a solution? I just had the same thing happen with my LSV muffler drain screw.

Careful now. My drain plugs on my block are 1/4" pipe thread. I had to retap it two weeks ago. Cross thread the brass plug. Just ran the same size tap in the block and a new plug. Good to go.

Did anyone ever put a larger bolt in the fiberglass muffler? Mine is stripped now.
