Yep, hoist cable snapped while I was in it covering the boat. It dropped three feet , scared the crap out of me, sounded like a m80 going off.

Tied her up for the night after our earlier surf session. Before the cable snap.

Safe and sound in the am today

Yep I was lucky it was the main cable and not the leveling cable. The whole cradle dropped directly downand boat stayed within it..

Time to change all the cabling, maybe ss cable ($$$), how old is the lift?

Lift is a 2008. Should not happen this early. The one cable showed signs of rust, the other cables don't but good I dea to replace with ss.. The manual says all in water cables are ss, but I find that hard to believe.

Did you have any fraying on the cable. I had a cable snap after 5 years. It had fraying. I had a local hardware store that carried SS cable. Very frustrating, but easy repair.

Seems to happen wherever there is a bend in the cable with the lifts on our lake.

SS will rust if there is any carbon in the mix, like a bolt or bracket etc... SS is only effective if all materials being used are non-ferrous.
