Purchasing a 1998 Ducati Monster 900 later today. This will be my first bike and, while I know it's not exactly a beginner's bike, I'm getting a crazy deal on it from a friend of mine that took meticulous care of it.

I'm excited to get into the hobby, although I'm scared at the same time to have yet another money pit in my life.

Any other Ducati owners on here? Any motorcycle enthusiasts period, what are ya'll riding? What kind of tricks-of-the-trade do you have for me and others, similar to all the little nuances we all share for boating?

Here's the bike:

Been ridin for 6 years. '09 zx6 here.......

Do yourself a favor and take a stars course.
Remember that you may have right of way but you will lose every time vs a car. Always make eye contact with cagers.

And PLEASE always wear gear......

Got a new helmet and jacket ordered and on the way, the helmet is coming with an interchangeable heated, dual-lens replacement so the helmet will serve as my snowmobile helmet as well. Great deal at denniskirk.

Also plan on taking a course, as soon as one opens up near me.

good lookin bike..

I never really liked the undertail exhaust that my '08 had, but it was much quieter when riding than the '09 with the side exhaust when you replace them with aftermarket...

Definitely second this if you haven't ridden before. When I rode I always watched those intersections and lane changers every time as if they didn't see me. That way I was ready for it when they came cutting out. It's really not a matter of "if" but "when" so be ready for it when your time comes.

The "not if but when" statement is the one I've been hearing a lot. I like to think I'm an incredibly defensive driver as it is but I know I'll have my eyes opened the first time I get cut off on a motorcycle.

Being around boating and snowmobiling my whole life, and having two pilots as parents has done its fair share of teaching me situational awareness, but I know it's a whole new ballgame when you multiply the idiots you can see on a busy traffic day.

^^^^^yes... assume EVERY car has a 16 year old girl at the wheel texting and doing make-up. :)

Bike I had till about 4 years ago. It started as a new '05 V-Star 1100, and ended like this. Sold it to buy the first boat.
I shall ride again

2011 KTM EXC 450 dual sport bike. 95% offroad and 5% onroad. I feel safer off road and I agree what others are saying about on road driving. I feel unsafe at times in a car let alone on a bike.

Rode a Harley at work for 3.5 years and had personal bikes for the last 10. When I bought the boat momma said 1 toy at a time and I'm cool with that. Kids getting older and I barely have enough time to fart nowadays. Miss it everyday thou but love the boat and everything about it better so 1 toy it is

Chris, the whole northwest has great dual sport riding. I really like Idaho the best as there is more open areas that you can just jump off road and see where it goes. The attached link is an example of a ride that was done with 1,700 miles and loaded down with concrete and a marker sign. Interesting story.

lewis. how you like the megaphone exhaust? I was going to go that route and saw too many reviews that said it was noisy. I went with a black carbon 2bros shortie with the silencer tip and it's still way loud :)

my bike turned a year old on sunday. bought it as a '09 holdover last year labor day(7kotd with 2 miles on it. I think I scored pretty good). only managed 2800 miles this last year. goal by next labor day is 5k more.

I don't think its too loud at all. Cmon down and take it for a spin! That's a great deal you got.

sandm

you can always tell it's loud when the cars in the lane next to you are rolling up their windows when you are next to them in heavy traffic..... :p

Awesome trip Zabooda! That looks like a great time, reminds me so much of trips I've taken to the UP of Michigan snowmobiling. There's a lot of logging and mining roads to get lost on up there and a lot of history with both of those industry's that has been seemingly left at a standstill since the 1950's. I think the most we've done in a single trip is 1000 miles though, 1700 is ridiculous.

Moombahighrider, cool to know there's another Monster rider on here. Would you recommend any specific forum for them? The one I picked up is in perfect condition right now and runs great, but I know that eventually I will have to be knowledgeable about fixing some things...

These last two are for those "Harley's cant lean" guys. To say I drag would be an understatement. You cant tell how much metal is missing. The pans "used" to be the same all the way around. I'm into the actual mounting bracket now.

Dusty the most impressive thing I've seen so far in this thread is how clean your garage looks, spill some oil or something man!

I ended up putting about 1500 miles on the Ducati just in September. Considering my commute is only 2 miles, tops, I'm considering that an accomplishment for this late in the year.

I used to race hairscrambles when I lived in Denver. It was probably the worst ass kickings I've ever taken in my life, but they were a ton of fun. Ours were only three hours but there was 250-300 people racing at the same time on a 7.3 mile track.

The HS around here are around 2 hrs unless it is the afternoon GNCC race then they are 3 hrs. The long distance races are team races, 2 - 3 ppl on a team. I would love to ride in Colorado; I scored free tickets and Fox VIP passes for the des-nations race back a couple of years ago. It was an awesome trip and would love to go back with a bike. Just an update here... I'm officially in love. Put something like 2500 miles on since the beginning of September and I'm still riding strong, 27 degrees outside when I left for work this morning.

Been lightly modding so far.. Swapped out all turn signals and taillight, chopped off more of rear frame, tweaked the carbs, new battery, LED package, plasti-dipped belt covers, new sprocket cover, and maybe some other things..

Teaching myself things such as brake/clutch bleeding and carb jetting/tuning instead of wasting money on "Italian" service!

They don't know what number i'm getting yet, I hope it's 22 (not a reed fan) but I probably won't be lucky enough to get one with that low of number. I've always wanted a KTM, and when I finally decided to buy another new one I looked at Honda and KTM and once I saw the Factory Edition I was sold instantly. I think I need to buy a spare set of plastics so I can take these off and not cry when I get the first scratch.

Can't beat a KTM. A lot more money than a Jap bike and 30 pounds less and you'll kick butt on the trails. Remember to check sprocket size that you use, hand guards, Tugger lift straps and skid plate. I modified my 450 EXC before it left the show room floor. Keep up the maintenance.

Happy trails......................

I would buy a spare set of plastic too. I did this with my last bike; looked new when I sold it. Good luck on getting the number you want.

My 09 Husky WR300 (was Glenn Kearney's spare GNCC Race bike w/ only 3 races on it)

The littlest bike, a Suzuki JR50

And the XR50 I just redid for my girls. I bought it new in '01, and it is now on its 3rd set of plastics, 4th or 5th set of graphics, 3rd set of forks. Engine is solid and has never been touched. It has been through the 4 oldest boys and is on to my oldest daughter now (7).

Here's a pic of all the kids on a few of the bikes. Don't worry, the 2 w/o helmets weren't riding at the time, just posing. The daughter in the sparkly hat doens't much like to ride anyways, but the baby does. He'll chase the boys around the yard until they take him for a ride now. lol

Not pictured are the yamaha TT-R90 and the KX100...

Here's a project bike, which is currently stripped down for rebuild. We're hoping to get it going to Cam's first bike this summer, but we'll see. it is a twin-cyl 400cc 2-stroke!

rc, good to see the family involved. I'm seeing less families involved in riding and it may be the cost these days. Bikes for kids are passed down to others all the time at a reasonable price but it's the gear that gets ya.

rc5695
02-08-2013, 03:07 PM
THANKS. we've been able to pass down most of the gear most of the time. Gear (except helmets) is cheap if you know how to shop for it. Shop the outlets and closeouts (not to mention used sometimes) and you can get pants for like $20 shipped! None of use could care less if the style is a couple years old!

Nearly all of us love riding. My wife used to not mind, but since a couple of us have gotten hurt, it kinda tears her up now... She's doing alright with it though. She knows its something we love, and really brings us boys together, and doesn't want to take that away from us. she's a good woman.

FYI: I had my 4th son, Isaiah, riding that JR50 withOUT the training wheels before his 3rd b-day :O We love our dirtbikes ;)

urrrrggh!

We keep the 4 wheelers at the lake and I just don't have time/patience to work on them myself anymore. Mine got tore up w/ ethanol and needs a carb rebuild. I dropped of the girl's 90's, wife's 200 and mine for the rebuild and then just general maintenance such as fluid changes, air filter 2 new batteries, etc and the bill came to a cool $1,000+.

That's insane!!! I spent that on parts last year, but that was a top AND bottom end inthe KX100, top end kits for hte JR50 and RM65, forks for the XR50, and a slew of other little parts. It may take time, but your dollar goes SSOO much further doing your own work! For real, bring them to me next time and I'll charge ya half what the dealer would. We'll both make out! :)

wolfeman131
02-08-2013, 04:29 PM
I know, I know. It's the $70/shop hr that kills ya! I simply don't feel like taking weekend time to do it and hauling them all the way home to tinker in my workshop would cost me more in gas towing them home & frustration than what the shop charges.

Well, I figured I could share these! I ordered a new set of wheels for Debbie, my '03 Heritage Softail, back in November and they are finally on the way to Texas! These are the "Cali" by Primo Wheel in California. They are cut from a sold block of billet aluminum then chromed and pc'd so they are one piece tubeless wheels. I can not wait until they get here next week!

He is supposed to be getting me some high res shots they took for advertising, I'll post up when I get them!

Front 21X3.25 & Rear is 16x3.5. They are replacing an already custom set that I have had hell with since day 1.

I had a good time at Bike Week, but a little depressing. I went a few years ago and also about 6 years. There are way less vendors, bikers, and sponsors out there now. While it's still a lot of bikes, it's a lot less than the other times I've been. I enjoyed riding some new bikes from Suzuki, Harley, and Yamaha. It was sad that Triumph, aprilia, KTM, or Ducati decided not to attend. Seems like a lot of audience to ignore in one place.

Took me approximately 8 months to become completely obsessed with bikes. Just rode the Duc to work and it's 32 degrees outside. And I have this in my garage, 1982 Yamaha Virago. Complete teardown and custom build, going to be a street-fighter mixed with cafe kind of build. Front end is from a 2003 R1.

For those unaware, Cody wrecked his a couple months ago... Wish he'd been wearing his leathers, or at least his Joe Rocket Jacket, but instead slid down the road on his back in a T-shirt. Make sure your stuff is tied down well! Lunch cooler and sweatshirt were under a cargo net on the back seat and somehow both ended up in the rear wheel and locked it up. He rode it a couple times after he and dad fixed it and sold it. Been riding cruisers since, and wants one of those now.

never laid the streetbike down, but I did hit a tree that was laying across the road coming out of a curve at ~5:30-6:00 in the morning. It was shortly before a stopsign, so at least i wasn't going too fast. I hit it in the ONE spot there were no branches facing me to spear me, and got flung off the right side. My thigh hit hte tree adn I flipped over it nad walked out of it...never even hit the ground! Just stained my jeans and forearm on my jacket a green color from the moss or whatever on the tree. I was standing there afterwards, pulled my bike outt athe tree adn standing up right in front of it recollecting myself like "did that just happen?", and ya know about 3 cars just drove off the other side of the road around it and never even asked if I needed anything!?! Forgot to update here that back in June I crashed my bike while on a trip down to Missouri. I've been rebuilding it ever since and finally finished it this past weekend... I like it a lot better now. : )

Any updates Chris?

I would so ride that bike, but probably get laughed at here :) nothing but vtwins everywhere. makes sense as NONE of the roads around here have a curve in them. I sure miss the curvy mountain roads at home. absolutely amazing how many here wear full leathers and a dewrag. helmets are a rarity and pass any bar on a saturday/sunday and there will be at least a dozen harleys in front. amazed not more dui's/wrecks.
I've been contemplating selling my '09 zx6 for something along the lines of a vstrom or gs1200 adventure. better commuter and would be fun to take a few weekend trips on.

I road that bike on the street right after we had the wheels powder coated and had quite a few people point and laugh. Doesn't bother me. That bike is a rocket ship. So smooth and fast. I should have kept it for myself. Sold it to some kid in Kentucky. I was sad to see it go.

I haven't been to putnam yet, although it's only an hour away from me. Irish Racing makes a schedule of what days we are going to attend and since you can't camp there a lot of guys don't like messing with hotels and crap so I am going to push for it next season.

irish-not sure. really want a bmw gs1200 but the checkbook says no. I say that having never been on one and if it's like my buddies aprilia caponard he had, It would be easy to say PASS. liked the look but a very topheavy and overall sluggish on the road. liked my buddies fz1 and like the looks of the ktm 990superduke. not real serious right now as it's winter but I think in the spring with the values of sportbikes here in wisconsin, I think I'll be able to sell for within $500 of what I paid new for the bike so I'll get more serious once I can start riding. I only paid 7k otd for my '09 zx6 in '11 as a new leftover and I know I got a STEAL on it and part of me hates to sell as I'll not walk into that deal again on something else.

irish-racing
01-09-2014, 10:34 AM
Yeah that is a hell of a deal. When I bought my R1 in '06 I got umm... raped. I was 18 and stupid bought it brand new and paid way more then I sohuld have. I didn't care tho I wanted that bike. I miss that bike. Just sold it last year. It was my baby. The FZ1's are awesome. A lot more comfortable then the R1 and they are just about as fast. I love the KTM superduke, well at least the style. Haven't rode one yet. I am very partial to Yamaha. So I say check out the new FZ8 they look pretty sweet.

sandm
01-09-2014, 11:49 AM
have looked at the fz8. originally ruled it out as 800 and 2-up don't mix, but ceo got her own bike this year so it may get a look. I had a yzf600 I bought new in '06 and I did resist the urge to go r6 much to the salesman's disappointment. only yammy I've owned and it was ok. dealer in my town was an ass so I never went back. biggest difference in kawi and yammi other than price(kawi is much cheaper) are that they kawi's have noisy valvetrains. the yzf was super quiet on the topend. both zx's I've owned have a lot of rattle uptop.

irish-racing
01-09-2014, 12:43 PM
Yeah the STEALership I bought my R1 from was an ass too. Other then raping me. My wife bought a used '07 R1 from the same place in '08 only had about 500 miles and a bunch of aftermarket stuff done to it. So I looked it over was a solid bike for $7k. I rode it home took it to school over the next few days and realized when I pulled the clutch in it never fully disengaged. It was still under warranty so I took it back and 3 days later they tell me it's completely fine and that I was crazy. So I had the service manager and sales manager come out to the parking lot, started the bike click into first let the clutch out and immediately pulled it back in and the bike was doing about 8 miles an hour and I said this is normal? No I don't think so. But they wouldn't do anything about it. I think I cussed out about 6 people there that day. I tired to be polite and calm but after they wouldn't fix it and treated me like crap I was done. So I took it to a dealer about an hour away and they fixed it no charge. Orlando Yamaha/ Kawasaki is garbage.

Good luck finding a bike. It's so hard seeing how there are so many different bikes on the market.

way too many to pick from. it'll be fun to look around. I'm guessing I'll be out of this area to buy one. prices here are uber-inflated. might make a good day trip to pick one up.
ceo is on a 250ninja right now as a learner. she says no, but I tell her she'll be bored of it in another 1kmiles and ready for a 600. I see a 650ninja or a r6s in her future. sportbike look that she wants but much more commuter-friendly.

Yeah I tired to talk my wife into a R6 as her first bike and she hell no and she wanted an R1. She did really well. Your wife will probably get bored for sure. A ninja 650 or R6s are great bikes. Quick but still comfortable and not so torquey. That is why I sold my R1. Riding only the track I wasn't riding the R1 to it's potential, it was super fast in the straight but coming out of a turn I would spin my rear tire depending on how many session were on them. The R6 I can go so much further into a turn and hammer the throttle mid way and power out and pull R1's and other 1000cc bikes out of the corner. An absolute blast. You and your wife should try a trackday or track school. You won't regret it..... well maybe it will cost you more money. haha

thought about it when we were in idaho. miller motorsports park in slc was only 4hrs away and did several motorcycle-only days but it boils down to cost. only so much $$ to go around for the hobbies and I don't see us giving up boating for mc racing anytime soon. i'll be happy with a good commuter and something we can day-trip on around here.

I understand that completely. My wife wants a horse and I told her that we could get one but we would have to give up boating AND racing. And well that isn't going to happen. She loves it all too much. Once she starts her new job this spring we will be getting a horse, I just have this feeling haha. I love boating and racing but if I had to choose I would have to sell the boat. I can't get away from bikes.

love my fz1. Tons of aftermarketand community support. A couple of tweaks along with the exhaust and a Power Commander and I'm around 150 HP. It is an older gen R1 engine with a few minor changes. Not uncommen to hear of over 100k miles on them. Did I mention I really love my FZs? My 6 was modded some, and I could keep up with my buddy on his Ducati Multistrada until around 125, although i was really wringing it out to do so.

FYI: My wife enjoyed riding on both the FZ's with me, as do my kids. They do just fine 2-up, with an hour or so between breaks. I drag pegs in the twisties with a passenger all the time.

You mentioned the hypermotard. I've ridden one and wasn't overly impressed. Fun, but not the greatest commuter if you're going to be riding higway very far. Multistrada is my dreambike.

Before the FZ1, I rode a Triumph, BMW, and Aprilia Futura, and nothing fit me as well as the FZ1... I put over 40k miles on my FZ6, and the valves were all in spec still. I like my Yamaha's as well ;)

I'm leaning toward a kawi z1000 or an fz1. I like the ktm's but price is a big consideration as I don't think I need to get 10k+ in a bike as a commuter. I've seen a couple z1000's at under 8k for a brand new machine as a holdover. haven't shopped the fz's but in typical yammi fashion, they will probably be more expensive. I'm not brand loyal to anything really but price I think will keep me in a kawi product. they build a good bike and seem to be cheaper otd.

That's awesome. Yamaha's are great. I beat up my R1 rode extremely hard all the time and when I got rid of it it had close to 30k miles and valves were still in spec and even after a couple wrecks she still rode as good as the day I got her.

It's good your wife and kids enjoy it too. If my wife didn't ride I don't know what I would do.

I like the Z1000's as well. Worked on a few of them. Nothing major just did some oil changes, changes and sprockets. From what I hear they are pretty solid overall bikes.

rc5695

My buddy I used to ride with had a Z1000. Nice bike. Not quite as fast and no wind protection at all, but comfortable and still plenty fast. Don't think it has "quite" as much aftermarket support. As for price, I really dont' think they are too far off.

As for quality, I currently own all 4 Jap dirtbikes (and then some). Honda and Yamaha quality can't be beat. I've owned Suzuki Katana as well. I liked the bike, but I am not a Suzi fan at all. YOu get what you pay for, and Suzi's are cheaper. Don't get me wrong, they're not a "bad" bike, but they aren't the quality of the others. Kawasaki's a not far behind the Y & H, but I still think the Y & H are a little ahead of it.

I don't kno whow the previous owner treated my FZ, but the valves were out a little at 36k checkup.

I agree with the rankings rc. I'd never buy a zuki as I think the gixxers give the brand a bad name. too many headstrong youths buying them.

Agreed. When I lived in Orlando it was nothing but kids buying gixxers then stretching and chroming them out and thinking they were king of the streets but all they really wanted to do was have a kickstand party and talk about how awesome they were and how much chrome they had. screw that.

I say kids but I was 18 when I bought my R1 and lived down there and still thought they were stupid and couldn't handle the crap. Guess I am "mature" for my age? At least in that sense. haha

I'm listing the zx tonight on cl and see if I get a bite. went and sat on a z1000 and I think the lack of fairings will be a deal breaker for me in the cold weather. sat on a ninja1000 as well and think it'll be my next bike. sportbike look but don't have to lean over the tank to ride it like the zx 6/10 and same engine as the z1000. several dealers have sweet deals on '11 holdovers.

well, 2 guys came from about 120 miles away last night to pickup the zx6. sending to a 19y.o. daughter in the military in south carolina. I hope she's ready for it :) not sure why they are shipping mine but they had cash so I really don't care..

now in the market for a new machine. going to make a few calls tomorrow on a couple '13 leftover ninja1000's here in the valley. I think it'll be a good bike for daytrips. target price is 9200 or less otd so we'll see how it goes.. I get within a few hundred of that price I'll call it a win. hoping cash/no trade work in my favor but I did have several dealers wanting the zx in a bad way as a trade and I know they make more cash on a finance contract than straight up otd money. it's still early here for bike sales with feet of snow on the ground and sleds still dominating the showroom.

going back on sat to sit on the ninja and I suspect I'll write the check. they won't budge a nickle on the price which kind of irritates me but it's priced fairly. I think we expect to deal on stuff like this and kind of gets ya when they won't. much less pressure than any of the team dealerships. they are a turnoff. u coming over to unload it for me?? :)

the dualsport idea was really an Idaho thing and I'm not sure I'd ever use it here. going "up north" would require days off and not sure we'd really enjoy that riding. I think there's enough day road trips around here on pavement to keep us going for a few years considering we like to spend the majority of the weekends on the water, not mc's.

I will say that duc is way sexy....

lookin good.. looks lowered a tad.

I bought an '11 ninja1000 from a local shop 4 weeks ago. 500 miles from the local kawi rep but sold as brand new. going to pick it up tomorrow as I'm tired of looking at an empty garage slot :) got pipes and kleen air mod ready to go on, but nothing else. will be nice to have a better commuter. $8600otd with everything. pretty happy with that..
next comes upgrading the ceo's bike. she has a 250ninja. good learner but a little light on power and not real sure-footed on pavement. thinking about taking her to look at a fz6r leftover. $5600 plus tax/title seems like a good deal.

That is a good deal on the ninja 1000. Have fun. The FZ6's are great. I have rode them a hand fun of times and they are fun bikes. Your CEO will enjoy it a lot more then the 250.

sandm

looking like it'll be a 650ninja. fz6 didn't pass the 'looks' test, ninja did :) working on finding a blue one now. they are within a few hundred of each other.

rode my first liter bike home on saturday. really not that impressed. it has a lot more usable torque in the lower part of the band than the zx6 so a much more commuter-friendly ride but I was expecting it to absoutely rip the handlebars out of my hands as you roll on the throttle but it didn't. quick but not a night and day difference. guessing had it been the zx10 might have been a different feel.
2 observations:
-get rid of the fuel gauge, give me back the blinking low fuel indicator and put the gear indicator back. I'd rather have gear indicator than fuel gauge.
-I am going to miss the positive neutral finder that the zx had. roll to a stop and it would automatically find neutral no matter how hard you kick the lever up from first gear. 1000 doesn't have that feature. will be missed... saying that from my lazy side.

from a comfort standpoint, I was ready to do 200 miles on it. the zx would get to my back after 20 or 30. it'll be a welcome change to ride daily and that's what I bought it for...

03-31-2014, 01:37 PM
The FZ6 isn't exactly "pretty" so I understand. The 650 ninjas are nice. Rode one my buddy was looking at.

Yeah I prefer a blinking light over a fuel gauge as well. I have never had a neutral finder other then the green light on my gauges. haha

I just got a text this morning that my wife wants me to buy us a KTM RC8..... I love that bike. Always wanted one just always bought other crap. So I might be putting one in my garage this summer. Who knows.

rc5695
03-31-2014, 01:54 PM
never even heard of a nuetral finder...

my FZ1 and FZ6 both had fuel gages that start blinking when it gets to "reserve" status, including changing the odometer to a trip meter. Maybe yours will do the same?

Jealous of the RC8. Beautiful, and never had a chance to throw a leg over one. Well, I DID, but I couldn't (had the kids with me at a show with free demo rides :( )

HUGE difference between the FZ6 and the FZ6R. Only thing similar is the engine iteself. Completely different frames, suspension, etc. FZ6R is a very entry level bike, like the old Suzuki katana. FZ6 can be riddne quite hard, esp. with a few mods. While I don't like the FZ6R at all (they went really cheap on it...), I do like most of the FZ6's. They don't all look too bad ;) 19495

Different power from 600 to 1000 for sure. Very different riding style required for the street. Been on the 1k for 2 years now, and while I like it SO much better for the highway, I did like my 600 better, even if I did have to wring it out. The FZ1 does seem to be a little more confidence inspiring.

rc5695
03-31-2014, 01:57 PM
FZ6 vs. FZ6R vz. Ninja650. Ninja is way less power than FZ6, not sure compared to FZ6R. I'd take (or put somebody else on) the Ninja over the FZ6R anyday. the FZ6 has superior engine and suspension over the Ninja though. Not sure if they've made any updates to the Ninja in the last few years though either?

irish-racing
03-31-2014, 03:10 PM
I have never thrown a leg over an RC8 either but I know I still want one. I had the opportunity at a trackday last year but I am hesitant to take anyone's bike on the track other then my wife's or mine because if I wreck it I would feel horrible. Had the same opportunity to take out a BMWS1000RR but turned it down as well.

sandm
03-31-2014, 05:22 PM
to be clear, fz6r. she didn't like the graphics on the '13 leftovers. I do agree as well. not a real attractive bike. the ninja is a clear winner in the looks category and since it'll never be tearing up a track, that's a bigger deal than improved engine or improved suspension for cornering. heck, everything out here is straight anyway :) I know the fz6 is nothing more than a r6 but she doesn't like the lack of fairings and overall look. I shopped the fz1 but it is not real loved when compared to the 1k ninja on all the road tests I read. ninja felt better overall. doesn't look as "naked".

my '09 zx6r had a feature that when the bike is stopped, from first gear, it doesn't matter how hard you click up to neutral, it will not go past into second gear. it's a cool feature but really just makes ya lazy. and agree on the fuel gauge. give me a flash on the display and a gear indicator. I will miss that a bunch..
it is amazing how balanced the new 600 track bikes are. I did notice a big difference in how easy the zx was to throw around vs the 1k ninja. it's not a bad bike but I think the 600, for me, would be much more confidence inspiring around a real track. the 1k seems a lot more "soft".

rc8's are sexy but in that money, I think it'd be a s1000rr. I bet long term on a track, that bimmer will outlast the ktm. .

I've been with progressive insurance for a long time. kind of pissed as I insured it the other day. pricing is the same for either the 1000ninja/z1000/zx10r. how does that make sense? and it's $50 more/yr than my old zx6r.
clearly they only look at displacement and not what the bike actually is.. oh well..
