took advantage of the end of year close out and picked up a 2014 Ford F-150 FX2 fully loaded. 2 miles on the clock at delivery. been thru a lot of vehicles in my time but this one is a keeper. 350 miles logged in and fall more in love with her every time I hit the remote start.

I must have got the best Milage Eco around.
I can take a snap shot of my MPG right now and its over 18 driving to and from work. On average at my oil changes 10K I have 17.5 and that included my towing this year. Currently 21500 miles
Yes while towing I am only getting 10 and as low as 8 through the mountains but I just don't get where everyone complains about the low mileage.
If you constantly put your foot into it to feel and her that Boost yea you will drink the fuel.
The 5.0 is just as much of a PIG on mileage. It actually worse on average due to being a larger engine and a V8. Not trying to talk smack about the V8 at all. Just stating the numbers.
Now you want to talk real Gas hog, the 5.4 V8 was horrible on mileage all the time. I was only getting 15 on freeway.

My 2014 5 liter F150 shows 15 mpg around town. I get 18 mpg on the highway by itself and 12-14 mpg towing a trailer on the highway including through the mountains.

Lets also note Jake, you only tow with your truck...
IDK I use full synthetic and the truck shows 10K when it says its time to change the oil. I had a sample sent out of the first oil change and the company said it was fine, it could actually go more.
Ford says its a 10K oil change. Claudia VW TDI is the same, VW oil costs 70 a gallon and its rated for 10K.
I'll snap a Pic of my computer readings today..

The display is one thing but hand calculate and you'll get a more accurate mileage result. Also, most people change their oil more often than they really need to (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, better than the opposite)! But it does lend itself to spending alot more over the life of a vehicle than you really need to. And the waste it creates.
Best way to determine service intervals is to do a fluid lab test. Most would be surprised to find they can go much longer than they thought. Every vehicle, driver, geographical area, ect... is different and to say they are all equal for wear/tear and service intervals doesn't make sense.
Yes it costs a little bit but alot less per test than an oil change. Think about the $$ saved and betterment to the environment by extending intervals to only when needed!!
I get the other side as well that for $30 why worry about it and just get it changed every 3k.
But I run a diesel and the cost of fluid swap adds up quick and so I've been doing fluid analysis on it for the past 3-4 years.

A lot of ecoboost owners are noticing much more fuel dilution even when compared to other DI vehicles. To the point where labs are finding the viscosity has changed and their oil levels are rising dramatically. Since Mike lives in the same climate as me I just wanted his first hand experience. At the rate I'm going I won't hit 10k for almost 2 years.
Mike is right, all I do is tow with it. Also I put 35" mud tires on it at around 2,000 miles and it's been dropping ever since. Definitely very happy with the truck, with a custom tune it's a blast to drive and has zero turbo lag!
mmandley
01-08-2015, 12:52 PM
Jake, I would still change mine if it was a year old. I run a lot miles on my truck. 20K in the first 12 months. I don't do a ton of stop and go traffic. 30 miles each way to work mixed.
I have not seen any issues with Fueling into my oil. I did see that on my 6.4 Diesel in the F350 until I took the DPF system off.
I got into testing my oil just like Viking was talking about when I had my diesels. 150 an oil change every 3K which is about 1.5 months for me was getting expensive.
Plus you have to understand, Synthetic is not OIL its an artificial oil made from chemicals, and or some crude oil components. SO it tends to last a lot longer then traditional oil.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_oil
Anyhow my truck says 20% oil used right at 2K miles.
Also every fill i hand cal my milage and on average its .5 less then the trucks computer shows. Also I tend to require 1 gallon more then the truck says I need.
So for the most part these computers on the F150 are pretty spot on. Where as my Diesel could be as much as 2mpg off.
The current tank I am on.

I think it's safe to say that most in this board are very fortunate as we have income to spend on extra things..... Like a boat... Some have may have a little or a lot more than others... I don't know... I personally an thankful for what I have...
I also do most of my work to my "things" myself..... Whether on homes... Trucks.... Boats.... Snowmobiles.... I enjoy working on them.... They end up being nice and cool.... And it's therapeutic to work stress... And I teach my kids mechanically and how u work for stuff...

That F150 is also the King Ranch, so it is Fully Loaded. My FX4 was stickered at 54K in 13. Just like my boat was stickered at 73K in 13. Doesn't mean I paid anywhere near those prices.
A Fully loaded F350 King Ranch will run you in the 70s now. Trust me I watch them lol.
You can easily have a New truck in the lower 40s with Eco and plenty of options.

They are great looking trucks, but year this new Aluminum body has sent the price sky rocketing. Not that they haven't been expensive for a while.
Even on 06 when I got my 06 4x4 Super Cab XLT it was stickered at 40 and was considered mid line.

It was an excellent time in 2009 to buy the big vehicles with the economy crash. I bought a Winnebago Class A for half the NADA and a two year old Jeep Wrangler for $14,900. I basically went buying not to put a little bit of money in their pocket but only to reduce their inventory which was bigger problem for dealers. It helped that gas guzzlers were getting a bad rap back then. With gas prices and the economy coming back, big vehicles go for a premium again.

As of now we have maybe 1/2" of clearance front to back... But there is a row of cabinets at the front of the garage. After those are relocated elsewhere then we'll have at least a foot to work with. I definitely need some sort of marker/stopper though.

You'll need at least a 3/4 ton to fit in around this neck of the woods. Next thing you know it will have a tuner, exhaust, egr mods, wheels, tires, lift/level and all kind of other shit done to it before you even realize you did it.

Yes you would think that about Portland and hybrids. trust me those people don't like us much. All you have to do is ask them about what happens when they toss that hybrid in the trash? All those batteries. You know Energizer is preaching they make recycled batteries now, 3% recycled...
I think its awesome that even though we have all the Hybrid people and such up here. OR doesn't require emission testing or inspections on Diesel 3/4 and 1-Ton.
Hell where I live I don't even have to take my Vette to emissions. I just pay the plate fee.

Wish me luck, Just sold my 2013 RAM 2500 Diesel and am picking up a 2015 RAM 1500 Hemi. I wanted to go with the new EcoDiesel but it just does not have the towing power needed with it's small 3.0L engine. I know I will not be able to pull the boat up hill doing 80, however am hopeful to still get decent MPG and a decent towing experience. Anyone tow with a Hemi and have insights? Will post pics soon.

We have a 2012 RAM Crew Cab Hemi and tow an Outback w/ tandem axle trailer. Average mpg ranges between 15 (w/ trailer and boat or stop/go city driving) and 23 (highway w/no load). We live at sea level. Pretty much all level driving. Recent addition to the truck is a TruXedo tonneau bed cover. Well worth the money. We enjoy our RAM. Lots of room and comfortable ride.

have a 2011 hemi 1500 myself, 17k now on it, towing in flat Florida, Alabama, Georgia at 70-75 mph and I think I average about 10.5-11 mpg. Recommend air bags in the rear coil springs to help with the squat you will have. I think the motor is plenty for towing a lsv ,as I have towed up over 80mph with no issue other than watching the gas gauge drop fast at that speed. Love the ride the truck has

Picked it up Thursday, have not towed the boat with it but it sure can handle the hills when empty. I did go for the factory air suspension so we'll see how that does once the boat is hooked up. Mountains near by have received over 15" of wet dense snow with more on the way, seems like winter will go into June for us this year.

Traded my 1500 for a used 2500. Loved the sierra but the Mojo is deceptively tongue heavy and weighed down the half ton.

I went the opposite direction, 2500 Diesel to a 1500 Hemi. The 1500 does have air bags that auto adjust, so there is no squatting.

Yeah, I thought about going with 1/2 max trailering and the 6.2. The 2500 was less $ and it's not my daily driver so I don't mind the ride.

Thanks! I was really looking forward to seeing how it tows with the ecoboost but I think I just put the boat up for the year. Maybe I will get to check it out when I go to winterize it.

What else do you have going on that would cause you to put it up so soon? ;-)

Guess I never posted the 2500HD we picked up last year. Still tow with the Suburban when taking many people to the lake, but prefer the diesel power.
