Oil filter

Anyone else have issues with the oil filter being extremely difficult to take off? It seems that no matter how I try to put it on just snug enough to prevent leaking it is still very tight when time to change oil. Tonight it turned a 10-15 minute job into a 3hr/ 5 beer job. I ended up sticking a screwdriver through the side of the filter and using it as a lever to finally get the filter broke loose.

I had a major issue getting it off the OBV first time I changed it out myself. I try and make sure I now put a good coat of fresh oil on the ring and the underside of the mount.

I always coat the gasket with fresh oil.
Broke 2 strap wrenches last night. Gonna try the filter socket next time.

Plus side is you did get 5 beers out of the job :-) :o

Been a few issues around here.. some worse than others..
I never had any real issues on my outback or LSV. just now due my next oil change on my supra, if i get to go use it anytime...

I use filter pliers which usually crush the filter trying to remove it but it comes off. One thing I always do is loosen the bolts that hold the filter receiver(don't know the actual name, maybe remote filter mount) to the bracket. It's such a tight fit the bracket will scrape the filter.

A long time ago I started just putting it hand tight with no wrench. I've never had a leak and still usually have to use a wrench to get it off (leave the Mom joke out of this one). I think the rubber on the seal hardens up from the heat and makes it harder to get off (see previous parenthetical comment).

This next boat I'm going to the k&n because they have a 15mm nut welded on the bottom

I use K&N filters on my boat and a Ford truck. They ain't cheap but they're well built and can save you some beer money when it comes time to change! Being able to use a socket wrench in a tight spot makes me willing to spend a little more just for the convenience.

Hey Drew. Yeah, I'm exploring the Moomba site and wanting to pick up what I can on these boats. I'm not sure when I'll be able to make the transition but time is on my side. If and when it happens, I want to make the best decision on that next boat. This is a good board and I can gain a lot of insight here on how Moomba's work! Look forward to getting to know ya'll.
