RPM revving and boat speed lunging when over 2800 rpm - any help

I have a 2007 Möbius LSV and it will run fine for a while, then the engine will rev and the the rpm will vary up and down at a swing of about 500 rpm. It doesnt seem to come on at any particular time. The heat gauge shows normal and the oil pressure shows normal. Any one ever had this happen or have any ideas?

Sounds kinda like a fuel filter issue
