hours on a 04

so i put my boat up for sale on craigs yesterday and within 2-3 hours a guy asked for pics and the hours on the boat. So that night ( im at work so i couldnt add pics or tell the exact hours) i sent an email back saying i would send pics when i get home and i also told him the boat had around 400 hours (i checked this morning and im at 383) and i got an email this morning saying dont worry about pics, the hours are to high. for having a 2004 and (what i think) only having 383 hours seems low consitering its 8 years old and since 2009 when i bought it, its only been out a hand full of times..what do you guys think? 383 hours on a 2004 to high?

to me i would think an avid boater would put atleast 50-100 hours on a boat a year..so 8 yr old boat having only 383 hours to me at least would be low in my book as well..maybe because i had the price at 20G obo he thought he would be getting a brand new boat haha..well i have looked around and did the nada online and on the low side for my boat is 17 and average is about 22-24 soo i dont think im asking to much for my boat..only thing that needs to be fixed is the shaft and strut and i stated that in the ad

383 on an 04 seems really low. any lower and i would worry that the boat hadn't been used regularly enough. I would personally rather have a boat that I know has been well maintained and used regularly than a boat that may have sat for long periods of time. A well maintained ski boat engine should last what- 2000 to 2500 hrs before rebuild?

We have averaged 50 hours a year and have 172 on my 09. It had 30 on it when I Bought it. 383 seems right on point for Me. We go 3 out of every 4 weekends in the summer or better.

i work every other weekend..the i also go to drill one weekend a month..so i dont take her out much...i would love to keep her and redo the carpets and seats, and also do some led lighting but i dont have the time or money anymore ha..if i had a job that paid me more then 11$hr id deck that boat out haha

Some of the idiots out there have no idea what to ask. The condition is way more important than the hours. I've seen plenty of boats with low hours that were junk from sitting outside with torn covers. I'd much rather have one with a few hours on it that was used and properly maintained. I put about 65 hrs./year on mine. No, I don't want to do the math on the $$$$$.

i mean my boats no queen of the lake..theres the light scratches in the side from people who try to swim up to the boat with the board and scrathes the gell coat, i would think if you did a light sand and buff they would be gone..and a few cracks by the tower legs ( no rubber spacers under the legs) and theres one spot with a spider web crack from what it appears to be from someone droping something on it..but other then that shes mint haha.. and i put 20,000$ obo so i dont think im that far off..crap ill even take 18 and be happy haha

20k might be low and might be high. everyone's version of "mint" varies and what you call clean might not even warrant a low ball offer to me and vice versa..

400 hrs doesn't seem real high tho. I had 315 on my '06 and would have been pushing 400 the beginning of next year.

I beleive that I read somewhere that "typical" or "average" use for a boat is about 50 hours per year. My 01 has 550 on it. My buddies 2010 RZ2 has over 350 on it!

My 04 has close to 1,000 hrs......maintenance issues started at around 700 hrs such as serpentine belt, raw water pump, heater blower motor, manifold gaskets...

sooo a guy come and looked at my boat..showed him what was wrong it..ie..bent shat and strut..and he tells me if he took it to a dealer that his dad works at it could be around 5G max to fix ( haha ok)..then there where some cracks in the seats and that was from whever had the boat last and used those magic erasers on the seats( found a few of them in the boat the day i got it) and the guy said it would cost him about 2G to get the seats done..ok..and then the spider cracks..after he looked it over and me telling him i would also throw in the PFDs, new and old prop, anchor, lines, fat seat ballast, surf board and old wakeboard, he said he would only give me 14,000 for the boat...yeaa not happening ..if i cant sell maybe ill sell it to him for 16 with no extras and take my sub and amps out of the boat

You know you can get a great shape DD for 16k right? Your boat has obvious damage, people aren't going to spend top dollar for a boat that doesn't run or not taken care of. You should take it to the dealer and see if you can get them to fix it and sell it..

Those are dealer prices, private party sellers are going to be much lower, since they don't do service, loans, and have no over head. A dealer can ask and get more, because they can, most folks don't have 20k laying around.. :) Not to mention the season is over(or will be soon) and there's going to, or is a flood of boats for sale, which will drive the prices down..

if I was looking and ran across an '04 with bent shaft/strut, tears in the seats and spider cracks in the gelcoat, and nothing personal, but as a seller and your age appears to be in the mid-20's, looking at nada(but more importantly craigslist locally and onlyinboards/boattrader), I'd have offered 12.5 and stopped at around 13.5. the perception amongst the majority of buyers will be a boat with the damage listed and what I perceive to be a younger seller = a boat that has been rode hard and stored wet. may not even be close to the case, but their perceptions are your reality as a seller.

I would say get the damage fixed and get the boat into a top $$ boat for next year as mentioned, or if you need to dump right now, take the 14k and run if you don't want to sit all winter.
the boat market is different all over the country, but at the end of the day, boats and motorcycles are coming to the end of the season, especially up north and prices are approaching their bottom, just like sleds are approaching their top $$ point.

As other have tried to point out, your boat is jacked up and will therefore will command BOTTOM DOLLAR. It doesn't sound like you really want to hassle with the repairs, so get what you can for her, work to pay off your other bills over the winter and maybe look for another boat Spring 2013 or 2014.

i mean i paid about 15-16 for it..pluss my trade in ( 2009 sea-doo 215 wake pro..bought brand new)..so i will take a hit but this guy does want to get himself and his family into wakeboarding and skiing, so for 14G and any work he puts into it he will be on top, i dont mind helping someone out..i just thought it was crazy when he said 3G for new interior

IMO, and from experience $3000 for a complete interior redo on a boat sounds dead on. In fact I know people that have between quoted higher.

if he thinks a garage is a cover, then he is right otherwise they are under $700 for an OEM, but vary by year/make/model. I believe the best Evolution cover is under $1,500.

I've bought several fixer upper/project boat's in the past like this, you have to remember the buyer is assuming a lot of risks & unknowns. After my 3rd project boat I finally figured out a good system, total everything up at dealer prices and shop rates, then double it.

What the guy has said is dead on, sure you could find the cover cheaper, but then he takes the boat home and finds a 2 foot long hole in the bottom(yep, it was dark) that extra buffer make or break you..
