Just got my first Moomba. 2012 LSV with gravity 3, dual battery, wake plate, V2 Tower. I noticed on the battery their is a switch with three positions. Which is best to use? Can't believe how much I love this boat. Had in I/O, then a Sea Doo Wake 2010. This boat absolutely blows the others away. Just learning to wake surf. Any tips on ballast and speed would be welcome.

Congrats! There is a ton of info on here about the ?'s you asked.

I keep my perko switch on 1 when running so I know I have a backup to start the boat, if needed. I put the perko on 1&2 when I plug into the on-board charger.

For surfing, if your crew rides regular, cut out the cooler. No joke. Then, pop 1,100's in the rear lockers, a 370 tube under the port seats and add an IBS to the bow.

I think on the '12 the cooler is on the starboard side.

I think you're right. Hell, cut it out anyway for your goofy friends!

Cutting out the cooler is a little extreme for just starting out. Fill your center ballast and your surf side ballast full. Non surf side empty. Put everyone on the surf side, starting with the heaviest person in the back corner. Go 10 mph with wakeplate fully up. If you want a bigger wave, get a 750 or 1100 for the surf side rear and then fill the opposite side rear about half full. Be sure you get at least a 5'-0" board if just starting out. That should get you going.

FYI, I run a 750 in the rear and 400 in the center locker and can freeride all day long with a 4'-6" board. I weigh 165#.

Just learning to wake surf. Any tips on ballast and speed would be welcome.

My setup: 1100 full in the back corner, 400 in the center and 650 in the bow, wakeplate almost all the way up, 10.8 mph.

With the bow sac and the faster speed, the pocket is much longer. On the goofy side, I can slow down and the wake stays clean. On the regular side, even with the 1100, the wake is cleaner when the driver stands up over the center ballast and if I have some people on the surf side the wake is better. Slower speed + more weight in the back= taller wave but short pocket.......faster speed + more weight in the bow = long pocket but less height. For me ballast in the opposite locker makes the wake to wash especialy on the regular side

Welcome Moomba Brother!! Pictures orit ain't real LOL ;-)

Edit: Concerning surfing, don't throw the rope until you are positive you can ride it out longer than 5 seconds LOL. I speak from experience... I still do that most times... sad but true...

In the words of the immortal Vanilla Ice:

[I]To the extreme I rock a wave like a vandal
Light up a lake and wax a chump like a candle[\I]

Take it to the extreme! Cut it out. You will be glad you did.

^^ THIS! I had reservations about doing it too but I did it, makes a big difference. I hated having bags on the seats and I'm sure people hated sitting on them. Now, everything is nice and concealed. We never used the cooler anyway. It's an improvement over the older ones but it really doesn't cool that well nor hold enough beverages to give up the extra storage (ballast) space...

Dun...dun dun dun...dun dun dun dun...tisk...dun...dun dun dun...dun dun dun...

Great, now that song is going to be stuck in my head all night...

This.......

I may add some weight to the bow.... People work fine, but add Velcro to their seat.

so what's the best tool to use when cutting out the cooler? Any special tips on how to do this or what to look out for?

Ya mon, welcome. If your into water sports no other boats can hold a candle to inboards. Well maybe a few outboard specific tow boats but those are mainly in ski shows.

^^Those and a vacuum will come in handy. It also helps to do it during daylight hours too...
