So I was planning on changing my engine oil before the jam this weekend so I eased on over to Napa to pick up the usual 6 quarts of. 15W-40 AmsOil full sun diesel and marine engine oil. I found the 15W-40 AmsOil and went ahead and bought it up. Now that I'm at the lake house I'm looking at the new bottles compared to an old bottle and I realize that the new bottle does not say Marine any where on it. I get to looking closer and see that one is pretty much a diesel only application and the product codes are different.

The diesel and marine is AME-QT and the diesel is DME-QT

My question is is the diesel only oil safe to run??

As long as it has the correct certifications the manual specifies you will be fine. I run rotella 15w-40 which is pretty much a diesel motor oil with no problems.

I believe the CJ4 designation makes it ok.

I have run some different oils in my boat with no ill affects. Delvac 15w40, Rotella 15w40, Mobil 1 syn 15w50.

But here is a link to a cummins forum that has some technical info between the two;

Maybe shoot them an email or call for specific answer.

From the owners manual

Indmar recommends 15W-40 Pennzoil Marine in their
engines. If not available, use a 15W40 motor oil with
an A.P.I. classification rating of SL/SJ/CI4/CH4/CG4 or
equivalent.
