Mobius LSV, 450hp

hi guys ! first time poster here, but been lurking about for a while

anyway, I am checking out different types of wakeboard/wakesurf allrounders, and moombas caught my eye very fast (and my wallet too :))..I read alot from the other topics, that the LSV is a great allround sport activities boat

There is a chance I could get a nice deal with a reseller in Europe, Im pondering the stronger, 450hp engine upgrade.

anyone has any idea what type of lowend headroom I could get with that upgrade ? approx top speed, and of course fuel usage..im mostly asking for top speed because we are akin to try some barefooting

I am usually on the water with 7 friends and gear for 2 people

The LSV is an EXCELLENT boat!

On a 2012 LSV, a 450hp motor isn't an option as far as I know.

You can got with the standard 330hp, 5.7L which will do all that you need

OR

Upgrade to the award winning 345hp, 5.7L motor which has some nice features to it (http://www.scdealerconnect.com/product-knowledge/advanatges-of-the-new-indmar-345-hp-assault-engine)

OR

Overkill, IMO, is the 420hp, 6.0L motor.

Top speed on these boats is more a factor of prop selection than horsepower. I have found my 345hp motor in the Mojo to be more fuel efficient than the 325hp motor that was in the '08 Outback V.

ive got the build sheet right in front of me and the 6.0 450hp is a option for the 2013 LSV, not sure about the older models tho

Yea they switched over to an ls3 6.0 for 2013. I know for 2012 the 6.0 option was just shy of 5k. Daze does your build sheet have the upgrade price for the ls3? I would say that for the LSV you wouldn't need more than the 330 or 345.

well the "build your own boat" sheet states the 450hp option, so I used that as reference, I guess ? Why would that be overkill ?

would that mean no significant increase in performance, besides bigger weight pull and much more fuel consumption ? I also read that the hull design of the mobius prevents it from doing much more in the high end, is that true ?

Sorry, I thought you were working a deal on a 2012.

I guess "overkill" is in the eyes of the beholder. If you plan to sac that boat out with 4,000lbs, then the 450 may be just what you want/need.

The hull and prop shaft angle on these boat does limit the speed to an extent. I'm sure with enough horsepower and the right prop you can overcome this but I doubt the speed increase over the 330 and 450 would be a lot. Maybe 5-10 mph. You can turn lower rpms propped right with the 450 than you can with the 330.

If I could afford it my next boat would have the baddest motor available.

MSRP is a little over 9k, Im at work now and did not memorize that one as I am not checking that option box

found out that the 450 can only be ordered as an option on the LSV & Mojo. Sorry, Outback & Outback V but you can still go with the aweome 345.

What is your top speed and fuel burn with the 345hp? I'm topping out at 39-41mph depending on the load. My best attempts at calculating fuel burn since i've had the boat (150 hours) is about 4.25 gallons per hour. I assume we are running the same prop.

If you are barefooting get the 450. its FI so you wont be burning much more fuel. You will want the power for barefooting. Its not overkill its perfect for what you say your needs are, especially if you are going to have 7 peeps in the boat you will need it for footing. Especially for toe holds. You prob wont be doing wakes , but booming and sweet spot long line you will regret not getting the increase hp. .02

Sorry, but never paid attention to either. Hardly ever get over 30 mph and I refill when it gets down by the "E"

The price of a 450 hp is the only thing that would stop me from getting it. Although the price of new boats stops me from getting one of those too. If you can swing it, I would go for it. I have yet to hear a boat owner say, I wish I would have gotten that smaller engine.

currently Im balancing my wishes, and of course options by the reseller.

If I go with the monster engine, and a faster prop, would that be a good tradeoff ? Prop gives lower low end, but HP makes up for that.....

whats the desired speed for starting barefooting ?

Barefooting speed depends on weight. Starting out a 170 lb footer only needs 37mph max (weight/10 +20 ). As you progress to one foots then you will want 40, and myself I like 44+ for toe holds. Backwards you don't need as much speed. This is a guide, you can foot at less speeds 34 is no probs as well and the slowest I have footed is about 17 - 19 mph.

I saw a build sheet for another boat line that has the zr550 blown motor at a 20k premium. I wnder what the supra sa550 adds to the price. on that motor, you want a f.a.e. so you can listen to the supercharger whine.. no better sound than forced induction working :)

imagine that motor in the outback :) I'd be racin lake lice for pinks.....

i had a chance to test drive the 2012 MOJO with the 6.0L and it was awesome. I don't think I'd want it without the bigger motor. But then again I like "overkill" ...... Never can have too much :)

could you compare the feeling to what you are normally used to ? handling, tracking.... Any tabs on fuel consumption? Although DOCDRS claims above, that it isnt that much bigger than the other version?

what about noise levels ?
