View Full Version : Rotating Board Rack Suggestions for XLV

Just spent the past week on vacation at the lake. I'm getting tired of removing the wakeboards every time we tie up with our friends or dock the boat. It's just a matter of time before I forget to remove the boards and tear them up. Has anyone upgraded to rotating racks for the rad-a-cage tower? I have the Z-Cargo Bimini plus tower speakers so I need a rack that will attach a little lower on the tower or rotate up/down as well as inboard/outboard. I don't want to order the racks and find out they won't work well. Anyone with some good suggestions will be much appreciated!

Moombadaze has the ones from Monster and I think they are fantastic! Solid build, can install anywhere on the tube, fully adjustable and the release is a handle instead of a pin. I hate the pins in mine.

It looks like the pivoting racks on Monster only come in a black powder finish. I was wanting an aluminum finished racks. Saw some on Aerial but they're $430 apiece. Pretty pricey! Anyone with any experience with the Aerial racks?

I ordered mine from Aerial and they are great. I too have the Z5 Bimini, and I have 2 on each side.

gonracn,
You got any pics you could post? Since you live in Wichita, I could even come and look at them if you didn't mind.

I'm also interested in these...I still haven't found a good solution for racks that rotate all the way into the boat....I see Aerial says "nearly 180" degrees....can you help confirm what nearly is? if it's 165 or 170 that might work for me but my main goal is to get the boards all the way into the boat for pulling into the lift...have already messed up several racks pulling in on rough days. See attached pics...I tried a rack from Liquid Audio Sounds here in NC....didn't work for one reason...although they swivel into the boat far enough, they don't work on the rad-a-cage due to the curvature of the tube...in the position shown in these photos there is no issue...but as soon as you move the rack up the tube to get to a position I would want them, the way the hinge is designed it was impacting the tube so that I couldn't get the boards parallel to the water...so had to return these and still in search of a good, reasonably priced solution...1567015671

I'd like to get the new racks a little higher up on the tower. Aerial says you can adjust them to horizontal. Not sure how much. I'm worried I'll be smacking the boards into my Z-Cargo bimini also. From the pic, it looks like your bimini is a little higher up than the cargo bimini.

Roswell.

They have a swivel system that attaches to the stock Board Racks, which I believe came with yor boat.

Not sure if you can get them in the States or Canada only.

Best that I've got as I've never really taken pictures of them before.

Hope that helps.

The stock racks on my boat are just the tines that are indivually mounted on the cross member of the tower next to the Moomba loga. I'd still have to buy new racks plus the swivel mount. What I see on you boat is exactly what I'm looking for though. That's the location on the tower that I'd like to mount it also. I could put my surf board on the top so when I swing it inside a wakeboard boot wouldn't hit my Z5 bimini. Would probably have to remove a wakeboard if it was on the top but that would still be better that having to take all 4 boards off.

monster tower racks swung in under the bimini and speakers, you can see the lever that is used to release to rotate on the right rack

side shot showing the hardware a little, these can be mounted on any part of the down tube-fully adjustabe

Looks what I'm looking for but the Monster website only shows them coming in the black powder finish. I was wanting the polished aluminum finish. Maybe if I'm patient, the the aluminum finish ones will show up. The price is definitely right.

Maybe try calling and see if they can skip the painting process or you might be able to sand blast the paint off

i wanted them black to match the speakers and bimini top

i really like how they swivel in completely and are flat, I mounted them as high as possible so they just fit under the bimini, when in the out position they are tilted just like the factory racks

Yea yours looks good with the black. My speakers and lights are aluminum finished so it probably wouldn't look so good. I do like how they swivel all the way in. The Aerial's don't swing the full 180. They may be close enough though. Thanks for the pics. Much appreciated.

Picked up a blem model from Monster Tower for $129. I think it looks just fine and feels beefy. Can't wait to bolt it to the tower. They only have 2.5" mounts but I think a spacer will solve the problem.

The masking tape is holding the tools so I don't loose them between now and install time.

On a silver tower I think they would look a little out of place...IMHO

So how bad is the "blem" on the one that you recieved?

$129 sure beats $600!

I think my '10 xlv tower tube is 2 3/8".

The boat is well covered for the winter and I can't get to a tower leg to measured.

2008 LSV had 2 3/8". If you have the aluminum tube style tower it should be the same.

Thanks for the prompt responses....going to order a couple today. Talked to a rep at Monster tower and he said they were coming out with a new swivel rack in Feb 2013. Said it was going to be sturdier than the model they offer now. He didn't have a msrp. Speaking of sturdy, looking at the Monster pivot rack it doesn't look to 'beefy'. Anybody worried about the arm bending or snapping??

those pivot racks are solid and heavy, no way for them to bend or snap. speaking about the ones I had anyway.

I really like the idea of a rotating board rack, it is embarassing to fall in the water getting boards down...

Did the Monster rep mention whether or not their new model will be polished or powdercoated?
At $585 - $610 the Samson Typhoon Boardracks are nice but kind of pricey.

Rep didn't say, give them a call.

Got my racks in today and just got done putting them together. Real sturdy and a steal at $129 piece. The ad says 'blemish' sale, but I didn't see any issues with the black powder coat. A big plus, they match my black tower.

Glad I scooped these up. Have had issues with tying up to bigger, taller boats with wind and waves causing my boards to hit their windshields.

Again a steal at $129 a piece, one of my stock racks got busted and the dealer wanted $150 for 1.

The girl I talked a couple months back said the blem sale was due to possible fadeing if left in the sun.

Even if they fade, it would be easy to repaint them or plasti dip em

Boat sits on a lift under the boat house cover when not in use but I agree that painting or refinishing in some way wouldn't be the end of the world. I just re-finished my tower speaker cans this year. From pitted aluminum to semi gloss black enamel. Can't wait to get everything installed and the season to start.

Any little piece of rubber, cut in small strips, lay it inside the bracket, then crank down on it till she's good and tight!

Wolfman or someone in this thread mentioned it, pool noodles...

Not sure what type of wake boards or surf boards monster design engineers use but the wake board rack is too small and the surf rack is too big.

For $125? I can deal with it... :)

where the heck did you find a black or gray pool noodle!?? Only pool noodles I see are neon colors, blue, green, pink etc. I'm thinking some AC insulation like this would work on those forks.
http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/44/4401ec39-4597-484a-93ae-a970d017a041_300.jpg

And yeah at $125 a pop I can deal with it too. I wish I could mount the racks higher like moombadaze, but the combination of my Z5 rack and Rev 10s wont allow it.

bergermaister
05-06-2013, 02:57 PM
Yep - that would work too. Look for the pipe insulation in about a 1/2" or so. I'd look for the uncut or unspliced so it will just slip over and you won't have to deal with any sticky mating edges.

I found different thicknesses of pool noodles too. Wally World, Target, etc. Mine HAD to be yellow though

Are the stock forks a Monster product, or did those come from another company? The forks on these Monster racks look very similar, not to mention they are sized for the elongated oval bar that are on the stock towers (the somewhat newer stock towers that is).
