I may be a player if is still around come fall. Just bought an 05 outback but the wife and I know are regretting not spending a little extra to get the v drive. with a 1 year old the openness would be amazing. Of course its depending on the sale of my boat.

might be the only great thing you hear about it.

it won't be the price.
it won't be the wakeboard wake.
it won't be the quality construction.
it won't be the reliability.

maybe you will tell us differently.

Someone over on the Supra site just had Wakemakers make a custom sac for the 242 for regular surfers. It goes from rear compartment and under the port seats ... over 1500 lbs.

It has a little relevance? LOL.

242's aren't cheap, wakeboarding not for me, havent come across anything about reliability in my research thus far, and I will report back on construction as soon as I crawl around one. Don't start a slam fest on me yet like I said I still love sc and am seriously comparing the 242 and the enzo

I crawled all over a 230 and 240 at our boat show in the spring. both boats were in the mid80's for price. I was not impressed for the price. mid-high 60's would be a more realistic price for what I saw. lots of small fit/finish issues that should not be there for a boat that expensive. the 242 I was in was the same price and felt a whole lot nicer.

that being said, if you can get one for the right price and as wolfe mentioned, don't wakeboard, they are without a doubt one of the top surfboats ever built.

They had it listed for $84K in August when I went to pickup a light cover.

Theres a couple 242s on Only Inboards also.

Honestly if you looking for a real Surf minded boat its all about the shape of the back of the hull. you need the V on the rear. This is what makes a solid surf boat. The ones with the flat sections are still geared towards wake boarding but you can sink them as we do our and make a surf wave.

Im not saying the 242 wont. I honestly havnt riden in one but i hope to soon.

The Enzo seriously is not even in my list any longer for surf boats. The issue is you only get a clean wave on the Regular side. The goofy wake is questionable. They offer an option to get a reverse spinning V drive to clean the goofy side up but then you get a questionable regular wave. I ride reg and Claudia rides goofy, so i have to have good waves on both sides.

my buddy has an avy. very similar hull to the enzo. the regular wave is amazing for not much weight, but he has completely given up on a goofy wave. the enzo would have been on my short list had it been priced 15k cheaper and was short enough to get into the garage as I really don't care for a goofy wave since none of us are.

mike is correct on the hull shape. what about the new sa350? the 242 looked like a good wake hull but would need a ton of weight to make a good surf wave(like the 247lsv). anxious to see that boat in person and see how it surfs.

mmandley
09-11-2012, 01:59 PM
I honestly havnt seen any good hull pics of the SA but the wave i have seen on video <on this site> looked decent for stock ballast, but i would still need to see it in person. AWS wont have there SA in till end of the month.

ga-lsv05
09-11-2012, 02:07 PM
My 05 puts off a pretty decent wave considering the hull I'm working with and that's on both sides sometimes I believe the goofy side is better than regular, that being said I believe I can tune in a good surfable wake on either side of any of the above mentioned boats. But only a test spin will tell

2005 mobius lsv 2900lbs ballast

sandm
09-11-2012, 02:33 PM
you are correct, you can get a decent wave on almost any hull, but there are lots of things to consider. my launch20 took a crapton of weight due to the almost flat back end(but for a vdrive, man was it a slalom machine), where the 22ve takes less weight and has a wave that is 2x as long and just as tall due to the hull shape. it simply lays over much easier. less weight in the boat = better gph fuel economy. I'm burning much less gas on an outing than I was in the 20. a boat that lays over easier won't have the need for visible bags as well. one of the things I like on the mojo..

lots of things to consider, but at the end of the day, ya gotta keep the ceo happy :)

ga-lsv05
09-11-2012, 03:14 PM
Yea to generate the wave I was talking about I had regular side 750 filled about 200 in goofy side 500 in center about 500 in the bow plate 3/4 up and 7 people on board lol

Completly agree GA and sandm.

I am thinking the same with the SA, if Rick Tinker, wants to pull that NW favor he mentioned and offer me a deal i cant refuse id move into an SA and make the wave work to stay in the family. If it comes down to only a few K difference in prices between an SA and something else, then i might have a lot harder choice to make.

That seem's cheap. There was a dealer in MI that would list LSV's for $42,999, but when I called that was base with no options. Real price was upper $40K. I would jump on the 242 for the upper $60's.

There is a tige dealer at Norris Lake, it's their first year as a tige dealer. Not sure how far of a drive it is for you, they had all three boats in the water for demo.

What about the new SA from Supra?

I haven't quite figured out how the sa fits in the supra line. in moomba, you have the outback, then the lsv and finally the big dog, the mojo.
in supra, I know the 20 is dead, you have a 21v, a 22ssv, a 242, but then the sa, that seems to be just a tad longer than the 22, but still quite a ways away from the 242, but still almost as expensive as the 242.
is the 22 dead after '13 as well? is the sa a true surfboat vs a wakehull like the 242?

22 is the same boat its been. The SA is the new "picklefork" ... new hull, new ideas, new flagship?

I would think the SA molds will begin to take over the line but I don't know.

SA is 3 models: 350, 450, 550. Each is a different motor. The 550 is ridiculous, the 450 will def get the job done but I haven't heard if the 350 will. Is the 350 the surf motor?

bergermaister
09-12-2012, 11:24 AM
Rumor is...

For example, in its most sedate form, the boat comes with a 345-hp Surf engine, a first-generation small-block from Indmar. Supra bumps up the nomenclature and the output with the next engine, the 450-hp LS3, in its SA450. And for those for whom too much of everything is just enough, the SA550 comes with Indmar’s LSA, a 550-hp supercharged GM mill lifted from Cadillac’s CTS-V.

will be interesting to see how msrp's play out on the sa line as compared to the 242 and 22ssv. my gut says sa350=22ssv and sa450=242 in price. would bet msrp on the 550 is north of 100k.

that 550 is a solid motor. not sure when indmar added it to their line, but pcm has had it for a few years now.

Yeah, what a fun one to drive! Talk about holeshot.

This jet boat at the boat show earlier this year was running I believe the 550 caddi engine (coulda been the 450?). At any rate the sales guy said it went from zero to 60 in "holy sh!t, you better quit counting and hold on!". Topped out at like 67mph.

From talking to Shane Stillman, the main designer on the SA its kinda like the Mojo in a way to the Supra line, in the fact its the closest thing Supra has to a Surf minded boat. Just as the Mojo is to the Moomba.

As for its place in the line up, i wouldnt be surprised to see the 22 SSV leaving the line after 2013.

The SA350 is the standard engine and will do quite nicly for surfing, but i was told if i wanted to do a lot of saced out wake boarding i would be happier in the 450. All out power and brag rights is the 550.

Price 350 standard engine
450 apx 7K upgrade from the standard 350
550 apx 18K upgrade from the standard 350

I have my eye on a SA350 or 450 but mainly because as of right now thats the modle that would keep me in the SC line. I really like the 242 but im not sure it will do exactly what i want. Although i really want a larger boat then my LSV if the 242 is like the XLV in surfing then im just not going to be happy with it at the price range it fits.

I have always like the 242 since its redesign in 2011 but the hull is still wakeboard minded.

The new SA as well as i think all the 2013 Supra come with the option of the new Surf style rear deck, although on the SA its standard i think.

I have been trying to build some SA's on the Supra site but it always defaults to 242. So i assume that means its price and the 242 are close enough that they are comparable but im not positive.

and what is a "6.0L MPI Catanium Motor"?

. is that the updated flux capaciter

Catanium < cat tan e um > Basically a Cat on the engine. This is the techy talk.

The Captain’s Choice 6.0 MPI, a 6.0 liter GM Vortec engine, is rated at 375 horsepower. The latest in automotive technology adapted for marine use, the 6.0 is the strongest and most fuel efficient engine in its class.

The Catanium version meets and exceeds stringent reguirements for emission control. Catanium is standard equipment in California and is available as an option in other states.

The 6.0 MPI features high performance aluminum heads, Crusader's exclusive HO exhaust system, and is fully freshwater-cooled. The distributorless ignition with platinum tip spark plugs stretches maintenance intervals into years. The serpentine belt system with auto-tension makes it easy to change the impeller.

The Captain's Choice 6.0 MPI features the industry’s first modular raw water pump, with direct-engine mount - no brackets for increased durability. The stainless steel pump is tough and specially engineered for the demands of the marine environment. The 6.0 is super quiet, incredibly smooth, provides neck-snapping performance and cruising efficiency. For all this power, the 6.0 still runs on standard octane fuel while the competition’s high performance engines require premium.
