Sweet!

Yes, it is! Comes ready to rock & roll. The '06 LSV was dubbed "lightning in a bottle" and, I beliee, SC has done it again! The updates are fantastic. Stock ballast is a 450 hard tank in the center like the Mojo and 650 bags in the rear. Reversible pumps with dash mounted switches. Carpet gone from the locker floors like the Mojo. Battery moved like the Mojo. Flip up vs out observers seat like the Mojo.

Still not a fan of that graphics package but very cool looking boat, I love models that have a seat for you on the transom for when you're getting ready to ride.

I have a ton of pics on my phone too, from crawling around the actual boat, but didn't have time to get those uploaded. Will do my best to get to those today using tapatalk.

Other sweet new features: no built in cooler. You get an awesome soft-side cooler that you can then store wherever you want. This also opens up the rear seat areas for more ballast! The new swivel racks are awesome! Made by Skylon, they don't have the dumb pin like mine, rather a knob you lift to then rotate the rack. The tension is adjustable, too so you can change the amount of force it takes to spin the rack. And, best of all, they won't hit your tower!

For you stereo upgrade nuts, it has the built in amp board w/ distro block, etc. like the Mojo and more space to work as the battery was moved back to be under the first seat in the port side.

Unfortunately, today is the day they review Moomba at the meeting and I'm on a plane. :(

I was given some extra special lovin' and allowed to see the LSV early. I basically wore out RT with my bitching and moaning as well as sending veiled threats about farting in the Supra meeting.

I know they updated some of the color choices and added a few new ones, too. I think you will be able to order the blur graphic or the chrome decals. Again, just like the Mojo. There will be several gel Oconee pattern options and one of the boats I looked at had 3 colors - white, black and the updated green. It looked awesome.

looks even better in the water than on the trailer.
drivers seatbase-swivels?
no built incooler--aka the ice melter
snap in carpet
love the dash/gauges
I see what you mean about the steering wheel
Racks look great-your disription of operation sounds wonderfull
love the room behind the drivers seat for a portable cooler

love it, love it, love it.

Now I have couple of questions that we have talked about that can make the difference

This is the biggest question at this point:
Will it fit into a standard garage door height, cause if it wont fit I cant buy
figure dual axle, standard tires, spring axle

how much weight did it gain

lastly
how much can i sell my 08 for??????

will be interested to see more pics as you post them..
couple of quick observations:
no cooler is a great thing in my book. most I've seen don't hold enough to make it worth the lost space..
looks like the boat has a lot of added freeboard. surfing pics above show a decent wave with the rubrail still a ways from the water. I would bet that boat only has stock ballast. imagine what someone on here would/could do :)
interesting to see pics of where the battery(s) are now. personally liked them under the storage cubby and out of the way. someone needs to stuff the black wireloom up into the grommet on the speaker pic. looks unfinished(I know, probably a quick photoshoot miss on what is surely one of the first boats that have been crawled all over). I'm not sure I like the chrome grabhandles in the lounge. from the angle they are shot, looks like they hang out over the seat and would be in the way of people lounging or trying to sit there? only 650 in each corner so guessing no hard tank/bag like the new supra? still not a fan of the unfinished look under the back seat. looks like a catchall for dirt and hard to clean.
any pics of the lower transom? curious if it has the same shallow vee like the lsv or if they redid the entire hull and put a deeper vee on the rear to allow it to list over easier...

overall, first pics are very nice and I do really like the gauges. they are very classy.. snapout carpet and floor look first rate.. cabin looks roomy for a 21ft boat. got a beam on it yet?

moombadaze

sandm,

one thing about the opening under the rear seat, makes a nice place to store life jackets out out of the way. I thought the same as you untill I was in Drews Mojo and we didnt have any life jackets on the floor for the different riders out for a surf session, kept the floor clutter free. Yes, I know we could have opened a rear hatch and put them in there but Ive never been out and had that happen in anyones boat.

wolfeman131
07-24-2012, 09:45 AM
You wrote that wrong: it should say what someone WILL do in regards to the ballast.

The battery is where it is on the Mojo. So, there is a lift off seat for the observer, then a smaller one which is where the battery is. It's a great location, IMO and more out of the way than behind the observers seat. Then there is a longer seat that continues back to the rear bench.

No, no under the floor tanks in the rear.

I too, did not like the look of that unfinished space, but I love the practicality of it in my boat. Doesn't collect dirt, nor is it hard to clean, but is a GREAT space for flip flops & jackets.

Yes, I have pics of the transom, but it is mostly unchanged from what I can tell.

interesting to see more pics. overall, looks to be huge additions to what was a good boat to begin with and should enable dealers to tout a new product into the next year. pricepoint will determine it's success. interesting to see what a moderately equipped lsv will msrp for as compared to it's competition. having just shopped the mb, I see a lot of things on this boat that have it beat, with the ability to swap out ballast being one of the biggest ones..

imo, save your money on the chrome rubrail on that boat above. black the windows and a black rubrail with the black tower/windowframe would look amazing.....

Engine options are the same, as far as I know. The 330 will be plenty for most, the 345 a beast in that boat.

It comes standard with a ton of features like the Digital Cruise Pro and snap carpet and will remain a low-$50's boat.

I love the exterior of this boat! But I'm not impressed with the interior, I feel it looks outdated. This is the reason I passed on the mojo with my current boat purchase it seems moomba took a step back to 2005 with interior refinement. I loved my 07 LSV and would have liked to stay in a moomba, hopefully when I'm back in the market again in a couple years things will have changed.

Outdated? Compared to what? SC is using the latest vinyl available from Syntec who is the industry provider, new gauge cluster, etc.

Outdated? Compared to what? SC is using the latest vinyl available from Syntec who is the industry provider, new gauge cluster, etc. first off let me say I'm not trying to bash the boat. I wish I had a picture to show what I'm talking about. My friend had a 2005 XLV and to me the seats had a very flat and square appearance, nothing fancy but got the job done. I had a 2007 LSV that felt more refined as far as interior quality it seemed as it had more detail in the way the cushions were designed etc.

The new interiors remind me of the older XLV kind of plain. I know this is a price point boat but I would be willing to pay a couple grand more for maybe an "upgraded" interior option.

Drew, did you happen to lift the carpet up and was the floor panel one piece and hinge up like the Mojo's?

wolfeman131
07-24-2012, 12:56 PM
Of course I pulled up the carpet. I was all over that thing. Yes, it now has a hinged, one piece panel AND the access cover for the center drain is much improved. It sits more flush, seems more sturdy and is easier to pull/replace.

sandm
07-24-2012, 01:09 PM
Can't say that the battery location is better or worse. if there's enough room under the seat, will making a good surf wake benefit from an enzo sack and if so will the batteries be in the way? keeping in mind that at a minimum you have 2 and some have 3.

I like the green look. at first, I thought it would be a fad color, but it's been around for several years now in several boat lines and still looks good.

To me I like the interior look of the 07 to 12 line, glad they brought back the rounded seat. The 07 seat was the best around just needed a swivel option.

This looks like a mojo with the classic bow, real nice upgrades, but if this weighs as much as the mojo look out, some new lifts and tow vehicle may be in order.

I like the rear transom seat and the traditional bow of this new Lsv , plus the fixed ballast, that's cool

Not sure why one vs the other besides looks, pickle spork or traditional , yes the mojo is a foot bigger, but pricing looks to be similar.

I agree, this seems to be a nice upgrade to the LSV but the look of interior seems to have taken a small half-step back. Previously, the Mojo compared to the LSV as, to me, a bigger, more functional, but not quite as "pretty" and with not quite as nice as an interior as the LSV. Now they seem to be heading more in the same direction, and the biggest distinction may be pickle fork and slightly bigger (2" on beam and a foot on length) for the Mojo and traditional and a touch smaller for the LSV? There doesn't seem to be a ton of differentiation here to me. They are both awesome boats, just seem to have grown closer with the new LSV. There's a lot to like on the new LSV and will be a boat I will be considering . . . . but I also will now be comparing it with the Mojo as well as some other boats in or near that price range.

I thought the lines on the LSV, particuarly from the outside, were prettier and more classic than the Mojo. On the inside, there were a couple of things on the Mojo that just didn't seem quite as "plush" or finished - the angular designs on the fabric, the square look of the vinyl cushions, the unfinished area under the rear bench seat. I can't objectively state it, the 2012 LSV just felt a little more high end to me - a little bit more Supra and a little less Axis. As you said, the new LSV looks "mojo-ified."

In fact, they are both beautiful boats and way nicer than my old OB LS and I can't wait to see them in person. I think they are both very, very functional boats with a level of luxury still above the Axis at a similar price. In any event, my old OB LS is a heck of a good boat and I am definitely a skier's fan based on that experience. Skier's products will always be my first stop checking a new boat purchase.

I agree with some of the other folks, don't really like the looks of the new LSV interior...don't like the straight lines, looks "sterile" for lack of a better word. Not saying it is bad or cheap, just not my cup of tea. It seems to be the way designs are going.

Drew,in your one picture of the carpet pulled up there appears to be a snap in the carpet but not a corresponding one on the floor...maybe I just missed it.

moombadaze
07-25-2012, 09:37 AM
Bobp, I was wondering the same myself about the snap. Drew said the carpet comes with the snaps in place then the factory has to put the other half into the floor so it match's the location on the carpet. So Im guessing they just did not install the other half yet.

If that is the case, then I like it even more. We hardly have anyone in the bow as it's kind of isolated. It's hard to have a conversation between people in the bow and the cabin, and it doesn't fit more than one or two adults comfortably anyway.

I think I read somewhere - probably here - they were maintaining same price structure. It sounded like it wasn't going up much, if at all. That would be a nice win if it holds.

I'm intrigued by the people who think it may have a smaller bow, larger lounge. My impression was that it was the same hull boat with a deeper but not redesigned top deck shoeboxed on. Interested to hear. I think it will be a hard comparison between the LSV and the Mojo now for me. I used to hate the pickle fork look, but the mojo is a very mild take on it and pickle forks in general are growing on me.

So, Skier's has their dealer meeting in Nashville this year but no dealer anywhere in Middle Tn? Wondering if there was a new dealer announcement or anything like that? If so, I will go visit, like this weekend . . .

For us old timey guys that still slalom, can anyone say if the lsv wake without ballast filled is useful for a slalom run?

I’m glad that the new LSV has generated a lot of excitement on here. Seems to be a nice boat and a logical evolution of the model. However, I will keep my 06, thank you very much! I like the sleek look of my boat and I don’t need any more freeboard. Yesterday, I took it out for a mid week, after work session with my son and two coworkers. We ran just stock ballast for wakeboarding (1200 lbs) at 20 and 21 MPH at 70’ and the wake is money for us (intermediate riders). I have two 750’s that I can swap out for the 400s if someone wants to go bigger and faster, and for surfing. Last night, we were too lazy to swap out the 400 for the 750 for surfing so we just emptied the non-surf side 400 and my son and I surfed just fine, going ropeless for as long as we please . That’s 400 in the ski locker, 400 in the surf side locker, and just 3 people on board.

The ONLY things I wish were different on my boat is if I could raise and lower the tower by myself, had a rectractable or removable ski pylon, and a center drain plug so water does not accumulate in the ski locker. That’s it. I love everything else about it, it perfectly suits our needs, and best of all, it’s paid for :).

As for the new LSV, I am not very impressed with it. I think the dash and the glove box area look chunky and ugly (sorry, I can’t think of nicer way to say it) and the simple lines of the upholstery make it look like a low end boat (which it is, I guess). I mean, would it have been too much trouble to add some curved lines to give it a little more style? I also don’t like the stock tower – again, I think it looks low end. I also don’t like the unfinished look under the rear bench at all. I think SC needs to employ an interior designer with an eye for functional style – it looks to me that the interior is designed by engineers.

Anyway, I hope I don’t offend anyone that is in love with the new LSV but I wanted to share my honest opinion about it and more importantly, how great I think the outgoing model is.

Al, why can't you raise and lower the tower by yourself? I undo the 4 hand bolts, then lower the rear starboard leg to the gunnel, then lower the port rear leg to the gunnel (just enough flex to lower one while the other side stays put), then turn around, slip a coozie on the exposed leg of the port upper tower leg to keep it from scratching the vinyl, then lower it onto the rear seat.

BTW, I agree with your comments about the 2013 LSV's. Still not enough change for me to trade up. If they would have extended the v of the hull all the way to the transom and retractable pylon....at the same price point....then I likely would be thinking about it.

Excuse my ignorance, but does the extra freeboard add anything functionally to the boat, or is it more of a style thing? I don't really like or dislike it a this point, I'm trying to understand the idea and reasoning behind it. I assume it adds extra weight and bulk.

Here are my personal thoughts on why I like more freeboard.
1. more freeboard is better for comfort - when you sit in the seats, the seat-backs are higher rather than at the middle of your back. And the distance from seat to floor is generally higher as well, resulting in a more comfortable sitting position.
2. safety - less chance of swamping, taking rollers. Doesn't eliminate the chance, just lessens it.
3. results in heavier boat - for my purposes (surfing) this means not having to add as much weight. Granted you still have to add quite a bit, but relatively speaking not as much. Or you can add just as much and throw a bigger wave.
4. makes the boat feel bigger, mostly due to #1.

What I don't like about how the '13 lSV does it is by increasing the height of the top deck. I would rather they increased the height of the hull so that the rub rail was raised correspondingly. That way, when you slam it, the rub rail will still be out of the water for a couple reasons. First the thru-hulls are below the rub rail. If the hull isn't changed, and you can put more weight in the boat, then the thru-hull s will be closer to, or in, the water. Also, it gives the boat a better appearance when weighted, or not weighted. If the rub rail is below the water line, visually it looks like you're way over-weighted. Just my opinions.

As soon as you find out the garage height clearance, I have the verbal ok to sell the 08 from the boss

Well, due to the weight of 4 tower speakers and 4 sets of board racks, it's a bit heavy :) I can do it if I really have to but I would rather have some help. I know that's the advantage of the new tower is you can easily knock it down by yourself.

I think the issue with running the V all the way to the transom (which is how most runabout hulls are designed) is that it increases minimum planing speed. So it you have little ones or timid riders that like to wakeboard at 15-17 MPH, it will be difficult to maintain that speed and even if you did, they wouldn't get a clean wake. I did used to own a small (19') runabout with a V that went all the way to the transom before my Moomba and I had exactly that problem. I could not go slower than about 18-19 and if I did, the boat would fall off plane and I would be going 12. There was no way to hold any speed in between. But I am no hydraulics engineer, that is just my opinion and is my experience.

If you are operating your boat on bigger bodies of water where the swells can get pretty big and the wind can blow pretty hard, having more freeboard results in a drier ride for the occupants and for those with little kids, it's also safer since they are less likely to fall overboard. And I guess what mnracing points out is also true, that it results in more comfortable seating although I personally don't have a problem with the seating position on my boat. I boat mainly on a river or a small lake and if it's that rough out, I am not out on the lake anyway, or I am anchored in a wind sheltered cove having some cold ones :)

Yup, this is true as well. I don't run that much ballast and knowing how to drive properly also helps with not taking water over the bow. It has only happened a handful of times in the 6 years I have owned my boat.

drew said he thought he had a shot of the rear transom. the vee will tell all. if they changed the hull, they would have surely made it a deeper vee for surfing. if it's the same, then they added to the top. either way, it's nice to see a deeper boat that will allow you to take on more water. I ran my old supra down to the rubrail in the water and having an extra few inches up top would have been nice..

I think it's mostly a top deck design, but there wasn't a new and old sitting side by side. Not sure that I would have messed with a good thing and it's hard to argue the current hull had any/many flaws in performing very well for different watersports.

Dude, have you ever put on a meeting of the magnitude the SC team just had? I have, and can tell you it is an enormous amount of work. The gal on the front line is great and it will all happen ASAP. She lives on the West Coast & just got home yesterday.

FWIW - the dealers said this was the best meeting yet and this was mostly due to her efforts. The dealers are the first customer in the chain of events, they were sold, so SC is off to a great start with the new LSV.

just talked to my dealer today about an unrelated item, said the boat is a home run, same hull shape but stringers are different, has an extra fiberglass finished floor, than the older models, due to the new stringers and snap in carpet . it is heavy and provides the same quality wake.

I honestly agree that they could do things slightly different. I understand that dealer meeting was a massive undertaking, but that's the industry standard and should happen every year, like clockwork. I guess I'm mostly thinking of the new Supra SA's when I'm talking about this, but I thought they dropped the ball on the premier of it. The time to build hype is before you show it's face, not after the party. I thought MC did an awesome job when they revealed the new XStar early this year. They had a full campaign before the show utilizing social media, videos, etc, etc. That would have been easy for Supra to do. Maybe not necessary for just a hull re-design with the LSV...

The hardest part about marketing is that everyone thinks they know best when they actually know close to nothing about what it takes to do the job. So, take my comments for what their worth, but know that my background includes a stint as Sr. VP of Marketing for multi-million dollar consumer products company. My opinion, for what its worth, is that the SC team did a better than admirable job with launching essentially 2 new products under a tight time frame.

like others i just wish they would have added the extra freeboard below the rubrail instead of above it. it just looks kind of goofy now and like previously mentioned, the thru hulls are not any higher.

i dont mind the "unfinished" rear bench however. i like how it would give me a place to stash flip flops.

At the very least they could utilize social media to actually inform their end customers of these product launches. As far as someone outside this board is aware, the new LSV has not launched yet or does not even exist. These boats are sick, they just need to shout that a little louder.

There may be more marketing experience floating around than you'd think. I know you're much more in the know than most people on here when it comes to SC (wish I was in your shoes), so I'm curious about your comment on a tight time frame. I don't know if this is appropriate to talk about on here or not but wouldn't they have known that their boat would be coming out for months and months? Or was there some surprise thing that came up in the process?

It is even more basic than that. I owned MC for a long time. They have "Team MC". When you buy a boat, MC "gives" you 1 year of Team MC which includes a yr subscription to Wakeboard or Waterski Mag, a card that gives you a discount at the MC online store, a MC branded something (tee shirt, towel, backpack, etc), and a MC newsletter (similar to Moomba Maniacs). Each year, you renew for a prices (@$30) and you get the same stuff, the MC branded thing changes each year. The tee shirts are labeled per year. The price is lower than you can buy any of this stuff as 1 piece.

What does that do? I have a closet full of 8 MC branded tee shirts, which is free advertisement for MC everytime I wear one. I have towels, backpacks, etc that are branded with MC that advertise MC everytime I used them. This program helps every owner "feel" like they are a part of something. Something that only this web forum seems to do for Moomba. Seems like a cheap way to promote the brand through it's owners. Yes, I already submitted this idea to SC years ago. No one seemed to notice or thought that it wasn't a worthy idea.

I don't cruise other boat forums other than ski it again and ball of spray and MCtalk. I can't tell what presence SC has elsewhere. However, there are a lot of cheap/free media avenues that advertisers should be tapped into.

personally, I think skiers did a good job of promoting the boats, not great, but good and much better than a few other launches this year. not talking about the dealers meeting as I'm sure that was amazing to be there, but like max is stating, getting the buzz and hype going outside of the dealers community.
drew did a bang-up job on this forum and got some excitement going on ww, but outside of the 100 or so regular posters on this forum, didn't hear much else. I don't have facebook so maybe there was a huge media blitz on there, but in reading on here, doesn't sound like it.

I do like the idea max had from the mc boat experience and the added $$ to get swag to promote your product. I would have done that with my supra, but I would think that with some of the cuts that skiers had over the last few years, not sure they have the staffing in place to make that happen, unlike mc and what I would perceive as a top-heavy mgmt complement.

I say this with some hesitation, as if someone takes on the task of pushing social media, does it then make it that much harder to release new products like the lsv/sa line or does the price of the boats now go up a few hundred to pay 60k/yr for a media relations person....

wolfeman131
07-27-2012, 06:26 PM
You guys all have found the answers yourselves. Swag & more marketing assets simply result in a higher priced product. You have to make money to stay in business.

Do you really believe a facebook post would drive sales? If so, check their stock price today and read their earnings report. They wouldn't even provide an earnings forecast.

Yes, things come up last minute and I would be cautious to promote or highlight items I was not 100% confident in so as to not disappoint customers. Last year, the agreement with Roswell for the S tower came after the sales brochures were printed. Ideal? Not at all, but it happens.

I really like it. The cockpit area looks large and deep. I am a little dissapointed they didnt' change the running surface at all. Even though the boat has a good hull it seems to be dated. I would love to see them incorporate a hull that brings the V all the way to the back like they did with the SA. This should allow the boat to surf better/easier. Also it looks like the wake of the SA is large and clean. I think a few complaints of the hull are that it doesn't have the best rough water ride, the wake is kind of steep and finicky and it doesn't surf great. I am not saying it is bad at any of those things but they could be improved on. Although it is a guess, my guess is they improved all those things on the SA. If that hull ends up being a winner I am not sure why they wouldn't use it across all Skier's choice boats besides the outback direct drive and maybe the outback V. Maybe they could come up with a line of crossover boats that use the same deck/interior but uses a flatter hull for skiing. Think Malibu Diamond hull vs wake hull.

I think I would prefer the Sbend tower over the one on it. Anybody have any idea if that tower will make its way to moomba?

First, Drew hit the nail on the head. I would rather have the prices be lower than get a ton of free SWAG. I can buy my own t-shirt that doesn't come attached to a $70-$80 grand boat.

Next, don't get me started on "social media". Facebook can kiss my you know what. I think MySpace and Facebook have done more to harm the progress of society than help it. I think people are actually less "sociable" because of these stupid websites. I will be the happiest man in the world when Facebook goes the way of the dodo bird.

As far as the LSV hull, it takes a TON of R&D time and money and effort to develop an new running surface. Having jsut done this with the Mojo, I am sure Skier's Choice hasn't had time to do this for the LSV. I think they did an outstanding job on this significant update for the LSV so soon after the release of an entirely new boat.

Lastly, I think it is awesome that we have Rick Tinker participating on this forum. This shows how much this product and we customers mean to Skier's Choice. How many presidents of companies would be posting on a forum like this at 9:30 on a Friday night, especially during the Olympics opening ceremonies. Thank you Rick and the entire SC team, we appreciate all that you all do. We will continue to do our best to be as supportive as we can and remain loyal customers.

that amp rack is amazingly clean. VERY nice for those that want to upgrade in the future...
nice that the driver cupholders are up out of the sun to keep beverages cold, and looks like you could keep them installed as you cut out the big white hump for a sub box :)
boardracks look like they are coated in vinyl. nice to protect boards. def. much better qualitywise than the ones I had :) a very nice improvement..
nice interior color combo and the grey vinyl looks to have a nice texture to it..

still not sold on the grabhandles in the interior. looks like they would be in the way. I'd order the boat w/o them..

Likes
No built in cooler
batteries being moved out of the observer seat back
increased freeboard
ballast switches moved up high with everything else
surf style platform
new swivel board racks
pull up observer seat back
steering wheel
extra cup holder in the cabin on the port side
rubber on floor or storage lockers
large factory amp board
mid ship drain plug
snap out carpet

dislikes:
freeboard added above rub rail, throws off the balance of the boat (imo)
oz tower
cup holder still being by my feet. i need easy beer access
huge gauge bezels look funny
grab handles sticking out inside cabin area
giant vent hose stretching all the way across port observer locker
carpet on amp board

my grab handles do not come straight out of the vinyl cushioning, there is a recessed area that is carpeted and that is where my grab handles are

nothing is wrong with the oz tower from what i can see, i just think it doesnt look very good, wish they still had the v2 option

and again, nothing is wrong with the amp board being carpeted. just think it would look better being flat black imo.

Quess ill take a close look at my grab handles, like i said i dont really notice them

I agree at first I did not like the oz tower compared to the V2, but after being in the Mojo I would rather have the oz tower since it does not block so much view.

Never thought about the carpet vrs flat black on the amp board, I was just wondering

How much was the carpet add on? Seriously thinking about putting Sea-Dek on the floor if my next boat. It would be more but I think it would be worth it.

Snap carpet comes standard. Probably can't order without it or get credit. Best bet would be to try and order boat w/out it being installed (no snaps in boat) and sell it as a spare to someone. Use those funds to put towards the sea dek.

moombadaze
08-02-2012, 07:37 AM
been thinking about the same with the carpet, why could seadek not be snapped down also or instead of the carpet--best of both worlds, use the seadek for normal outings and the carpet on special outings. May have to fabricate some kind of rigid type backing for it

check out poseidon flooring. I got to sample it the other day at the dealer. removable like carpet, spongey like seadek(only MUCH thicker) and removable so it's easy to clean.. I wish I had the option to have ordered it. it looks like a rubber weave doormat when you first look at it, but once you stand on it, you are sold..
it's a pretty spendy option to check on the boats that do have it(~$850), but you can buy it online in rolls similar to carpet and I understand pieces seam together easy for a full-floor look. looks to be in the 350-400 range to do an average boat-as much as having snap-in carpet made and cheaper than messing with either permanently mounting seadek(and now it's permanent again) or trying to retrofit seadek in some removable fashion.

Nice find!

They are just North of Houston, so some of our TX brothers need to get up there and get a deal worked out! With CNC machines, they can get a template set in the computer and, I wqould guess, be able to knock these out in the color you wanted w/ our w/out the Moomba logo.

The Poseidon flooring in my friend's Tige Z3 (optional upgrade) reminds me of the mat that came in my ski locker in my Moombas. Similar feel from what I remember (I've long since thrown away the ski locker mats). On the Z3 it felt comfortable on the feet, and seemed to be a nice self-draining alternative to the snap-in carpet. However, the only small nit-pick I had with it was sometimes it would slip out from under your foot, if you were leaning over the gunnel for example with your feet on the floor, it had a tendency to slip. I don't think snaps or any other fastner would work to hold it down, as it is stretchy. The Z3 flooring had a nice graphic on it, so it looked really nice. If I had snap-in carpet, I'd want graphics on it which I think would help cover up spots, stains, matting, etc.

Sorry, but the above isn't correct, IMO, when you compare it apples-to-apples. The 2013's come with Digital Cruise Pro, surf platform and GIII ballast as standard equipment. If you add those options on to the base, MSRP of a 2012 and compare to the base MSRP of a 2013, the math is a rather modest 2.9% increase.

BTW - the MSRP on 2013's is $50,450.

Basically your garage door could be 6'8 and this boat would still fit with the tower down. You got a GOOD 4-5 inches of clearance, and if you get real desperate you can let the air out of the tires.

Ordering the factory stereo upgrades could e the absolute worst possible use of money ever. You might as well set your money on fire. I'd guesstimate you could spend the same amount and have a KILLER WS or Exile system, or spend half and get comparable.

If I could go back I'd 100% get leaf sprigs over torsion.

Sure, if you check every box the price goes up, but some items are just stupid to buy with the boat;

Spare can be duplicated after market for $200 all inclusive

Transom straps are excessively priced compared to retailers

Docking lights are useless, I wouldn't order them

Factory mirror and bracket; meh.

lewisb13

wolfeman131

You can't do the leaf springs with the 18' wheels. That's not from SC, that is from Boatmate.

I agree on the stereo, IF you want to mess with that stuff. Otherwise the good stereo shops will charge more when you include the install costs.

Same with the transom straps, spare, etc - you can get them for less, but you're putting them on yourself. Granted, most is easy to do, but some folks don't want (or know how) to mess with it.

That should definately be the case, depending on tax rate. I think most options are priced about the same as YAGO and well-equipped LSV's were OTD at the show last year just under $50, so with a 3% increase, and 6% tax, you are right on the money.

When my torsion axle failed it rendered the trailer 100% useless until it was fixed - not "temporary" fix to get it home, fix it where it is, and the fix is a new axle. Thank god it was warranty.

Leaf springs have been around for 100 years and I'd imagine have a lower fail rate. I also like the idea of putting air bags on the trailer, and f it had leads that would be a super easy swap.

wish I had more insight, but I do not know anything more than this: when I went thru the options list on the Mojo, I clicked off the 18" wheels only to be told that trailers didn't leave the boatmate factory with those wheels unless the trailer was upgraded to the torsion axle(s). It doubled the cost of the option in my eyes, so I went with the standard, leaf springs.

I'd be extremely surprised if we don't see boat show deals for 2013 similar to those that have been in place for the last few years. I can attest to the fact that there were deals on the Mojo last year when it was a brand new boat. Anyone that pays MSRP has made a mistake in negotiating be it a Supra, Moomba, Malibu, MasterCraft, Tige, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, etc.

Yeah I hear ya. I didnt pay full price, but I guess Im just trying to communicate that there are a lot of other factors. I live in Houston which is only second to Clermont florida for wakeboarding and surfing so the market here is flooded with people needing boats. You go on my lake and every other house has a wakeboat. When I lived in Alabama I was the ONLY person with an inboard no crap. I had a deal worked up with the local Tige dealer before I bought this boat and I had left the guy $5000 CASH at the boat show. Well the next day he got amnesia about the tower speakers we talked about and handed my 5K back over a pair of REV8s!!! Thank god I had someone else with me the day I made the deal so I felt confident walking away. Im just saying Ill bet 99% of the people on here pay between 55K and 62K out the door for an unloaded and fully loaded LSV, respectively. Only time will tell!

I might have missed this already, but with all the additions and improvements, was there any significant price increase?

I just ordered one and I would say absolutely.

Youre talking about a brand new boat. Theyre not going to need to make aaannnnnnny deals for people.

I'm done going back & forth on this, but your response of "absolutely" in regards to a significant price increase is simply incorrect as well as the statement that dealers are "not going to need to make aaannnnnnny deals for people."

I've tried to lay out the facts and want to make sure folks don't get mislead by your statements, regardless of what the final, OTD price is as that will vary from location to location. Bottom line is that an equally equipped LSV has increased in MSRP cost a meager 2.9% and there will be incentives on these boats, as well as the Supra SA, when the boat shows roll around.

You are about a month from being able to make a deal on any boat in the world. If you start shopping in late April it's just not the same.

A thin skim may fit on top, but most anything should fit on bottom. So, you should get at least 2 total in the racks, using both sides.

The wheels are taller. With leaf springs you can't lower the trailer or the axle would hit the boat.

I don't know. This was a dealer ordered boat, but the invoice looks like they are standard.

I just picked up a couple of samson racks for the tower. ordered surf/surf for each side. dealer thought I was crazy :)

nate, nice looking boat. need to get some of those ordered out here. that will skew black as the popular color. not a lot of black out here due to the sun/heat, especially on the top deck..

Not sure I follow. Overall diameter of the tires on 18" rims is more, which would require more fender clearance. On the torsions, i wonder if they just adjust the angle on the hubs. For the leafs, maybe they simply aren't tall enough for the clearance needed.

lewisb13
08-09-2012, 02:22 PM
It has to do wish the extra stress the 18 in rims put on the trailer "drivetrain". With the 14 inch rims the extra tire sidewall absorbs a lot of the shock. With the 18 inch rims much more stress is placed on the springs.

What I mean is that the larger wheels cause the trailer to be higher off of the ground. You can accomodate this by lowering the torsion arm axles. You cannot with leaf springs because the axle would be in the way. If the trailer is too high off of the ground, it makes launch and recovery a nightmare, as well as making it unable to fit in garages.

2. one rinker that has been sitting since '09 as a new model. it'll never sell. 50k msrp down to 35k now, but I know they would take anything around 30k. it's an mtx210.
another customer at the 'bu/skiers dealer ordered a vlx in blue/orange and had a huge bsu logo put on to replace the weakesetter logo. it was ridonkulous. it was an '07/08 iirc. original owners had it for a year or so and traded it back in. dealer sold it again to someone just out of town. heard it's still around at some of the lakes 75miles from me, but haven't seen it in boise again.

remember, bsu fans are as fickle as they come. ranked in top5=stadium full. ranked outside top25=10,000 empty seats and tickets everywhere :)

I doubt the reason for the torsion-over-leafs has anything to do with stress or height. There's limited stress applied no matter what tire size and the tires height is matched to that of the stock 14" oem tire.

It's more than likely due to the fact that 18" tires have a wider cross section/aspect ratio, hence they need a wider wheel with a greater rear offset to accomodate the tire safely per the manufacturers specs. As trailers have limited clearance anyway that will move the tire/wheel inboard closer to the frame and leaf springs. The torsion axle/disc assembly will safely fit within the wheels greater rear offset without hitting anything allowing the combination to fit the trailer correctly per safety standards.

That's a pretty boat. I think I really like the black windshield with the black tower.

I can't imagine the actual price for a well-equipped LSV would be as high as some of the indications here. That would bring a lot of competition into play. Typically, there should be a lot of room to negotiate from MSRP on a new boat purchase - at least in my somewhat limited experience. Yes, the MSRP fully loaded seems to be in teh range of what you can buy other boats for that are considered more expensive, but it is still a good bit below those boats' MSRP I think. If you can get similar discounts on both, the LSV would still be more cost-effective. Now if they are going for sticker whereas you can get $15k off a more expensive competitor, then you have to take that into account.

All this heckling over price i guess ill provide some numbers. Ordered my boat August 2012 with the following options
-v2 tower
-2 tower speakers and amp
-wakeplate
-g3 ballast
-splatter graphic
-digital cruise pro
-stainless rub rail
-pop up cleats
-dual battery
-tandem trailer
-spare tire

All for $47,700. I would think the 50k mark would be reasonable to shoot for, certainly not $65k.

Food for thought

Well you certainly didn't get a 13 because the 13 doesn't have v2 tower as an option.

Picked up my 13 today. I have to say, nearly everything I hated about my 08 VLX Gravity has been improved. The ballast bags all have their own pump which are reversible, so no more valves. The supply lines are huge. The bags fill approx 5 times faster than my old ones. The battery location makes the observers seat locker much roomier. The stereo remote is 1000 times better. The digital cruise has more features than my perfect pass did. My tandem trailer is on leaf springs (yes I had a broken torsion axle) and rides much nicer. The tower is SOLID! and folds down easily. The 650 ballast bags are standard. The decking is molded in to the upper structure vice being a big fiberglass sheet with carpet glued on. The carpet snaps out. The glove box is big enough for more storage. And despite being 1.5 feet shorter, feels just as roomy. Plus it now will fit in my garage.

Add that to the fact that I sold my XLV for more than I owed, and I am one happy customer!!

PS, the dealer says he surfed ropeless behind a demo model with stock ballast.

He claims the heavier design makes the wake bigger with less ballast, and the 650 in the rear is just enough to throw a curl with a decent pocket. I will be breaking in this weekend, but if I get some serious hours in tomorrow, I will try surfing Sunday. I ordered an 1100 just in case.

Nate, congrats on the new boat! She sounds like a beauty! I just wanted to comment on the above. I think the ability to surf ropeless has alot more to do with the rider than the boat. I say this because I have surfed ropeless behind my 2006 LSV with no ballast and just three people on the boat (the wife and two kids). It was an experiment - see the thread below. And my normal surf set up is a 750 in the rear locker and a 400 in the center locker which we can easily surf ropeless. Since the 2013 LSV is the same hull with a taller and heavier top deck, I am not surprised to hear that it throws a surfable wave with the stock 650 rear bag based on my experience with my 2006.

I agree completely about the skill. I am coming from an 08 XLV GG and found the surf wake to be a huge bonus when I switched to the LSV. I pulled people who have been surfing for years with the XLV and stock ballast, and none could ride the wake. Most of my friends including me, could surf my old boat with an extra sac.

My buddy who has tried countless times behind my XLV never could surf ropeless. He did within two minutes behind my LSV and rode for about 3-4 minutes.
