We're picking this up on Thursday afternoon. 2006 Damon Astoria Pacific Edition DP 37' fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. We've wanted one for years but we actually got pushed into it kind of early due to my job. I can't do the massive commute anymore so i'll be living in this four nights a week ten minutes from work and whenever we go to the lake camping or family vacations.

We we're going to buy another house in the SF Bay Area region but the home prices there are ridiculous, recession or not! A studio apartment is $1200 average due to locale and what do you get? A place to sleep is all. For the same price (includes rig payment, RV park fees, Wi-Fi, full hook-up, etc) I get this and as a bonus, a vacation home! :)

Now I just have to figure out towing the boat behind this beast!

Razz,

That is freaking AWESOME! I was first going to say that the new gig must be paying REAL well. Cool setup. Will Mrs. Razz & the pups be doing over sleepovers with you?

Excellent rig. I hope your camping spots are bigger than what I see in the northwest and those rigs couldn't get into most of the launch areas and end up camping in the overflow areas. Having another vehicle for launching is a must.

Wolf - The job is fantastic, really loving it! Just can't do that damn commute like I used to 15 years ago, it's killing this old body! lol! I'll either be coming home Friday or she'll be coming out with the pups. All our family is out there so I'm sure more of the later is in store.

Zabooda - All of the lakes we frequent have accomodations for rigs of this size so it shouldn't be an issue ... we hope!

That is a nice place to just be sleeping. But that is the best way to be camping.

You can justify anything if you want to bad enough, just saying

BUT in this case my commute averages three hours a day, there's been days when it's taken me three hours one way though! All to go 60 miles each way. It's not even the time, it's the grueling toll it takes on you mentally and physically. I get up at 4:30AM and don't get home until 5:30-6PM average. Or if you want to put it another way it's 600 miles a week / 32,200 miles a year.

Btw, yeah these things are expensive per se but I got this one $10K below wholesale value and $20K below low retail. We were doing it anyway in a few years when she retires so we're a bit early is all.

It all comes down to what's it worth to you and what quality of life do you want.

My company's main office is 1:20 drive from my place and after doing this drive for 4 years you get home eat dinner and go to sleep so you can wake up and do it again. 3 hour in a car a day is a long time. I say anything past 1:45 each way it is a good idea. Comes down to quality of life.

My commute is 10 minutes. :)

Nice RV, traveling around in that bad boy is all about style and comfort. Do you have to get an endorsement on your drivers license for that?

my previous job at my current employer had me doing 12 hour shifts. I also lived just over an hour away (70-80 km) at the time.. so I was basically doing 15 hour days just work related.. plus on friday driving 250 km each way to our place on the lake and back sunday!

now that was an oil change a month for the entire summer.

We used to tow our 21' I/O and a wave-runner behind it with a 30' class a motor home. We were 70' total in length and legal in a lot of the western states. It was a challenge getting gas , and the routine at the launch ramp was challenging to say the least. We tried to stay where we could keep the boat(s) in a slip and the motor home parked in a camp spot. It was fun having the mh , it just seemed to sit more than being used and with maintenance , insurance , licensing vs usage we ended up selling it. That was another issue being it took me almost a year of advertising and keeping it washed etc.. We ended up going back to truck and camper which has been good for us
for quite a while now , we still did the double towing . I still think about getting another one again , but maybe when retirement comes around and can use it more often.
Jim.
