So last night we were out on Lake Conroe catching the Kevin Fowler concert from the water on my buddies Axis. Concert was a blast, had a ton of fun but when we got ready to head back to the launch I leaned over the front of the boat to pull up the anchor and the bow light that had been on for a few hours burned the hell out of my chest. I have a nice 2" diameter circle on my chest where the skin is darkened and blistered today.

So this is my question, I know the bow light on my LSV gets just as hot and it seems like this would be a safety issues for the manufacturers, but can you get an aftermarket LED type set up that does not put out as much heat??? I mean that thing was ridiculous hot.

In Texas, ain't that called a branding? Some people show tattoos while others show their brandings. Strange when you come across someone else with the same mark. "Bow light get cha?" "Yep"

Oh the LED light, you should be able to look up the light number and possibly match one on a site. Unlike a car lens, the nav light needs to be able to put out light in different directions.

Sorry David, but that is too dang funny! I swear, I'm laughing at you, not with you. Better get some kinda ointment on that or it's going to leave a mark.

Just a thought, If you had the anchor out, why was the light on?

Because someone doesn't know the difference between the anchor setting and the nav setting. I see it all the time and want to yel out at these dufuses "Hey idiot, if you aren't moving your nav light should be off!"

We were told all the lights had to be on whether anchored or not. We were just following directions!

Who ever told you that doesn't know the USCG laws and is an idiot. Errors like this can cause deadly accidents at night if another boater thinks you're moving when in fact you are not.

Dang that sucks. It is an all around white light on at time of limited visibility when not underway and all around white light and forward NAV (Red and Green) on when moving at times of limited visibility. Now this is for our smaller boats. Good idea to replace it with a LED one anyways. That will last the life of the boat.

It's pretty healed up. A little pink still. I want to go the flip up route like mike but I also want LED

LED lights do not get that hot and even they working efficiency is high. You will find many online shops where you can get these lights..

Wow - bummer of a burn - good to hear it's healing up okay.

How are you supposed to go about replacing the light? I was tracing out some of the wiring recently and could not even touch the light reaching from the bottom with the front bow seat bottom out. Is it only a job for people with long arms?!

I had to unscrew the light and pull the wiring up through the bow instead of down. Kinda a pain but it can be done.
