Closed bow cuddy cabin inboard Wakeboat? If so, I'll take the first one off the line!

A 19.5', pickle forked, slalom machine, with no wake at 30-34 mph at lines lengths of 15-35' off. Perfect!

or an lsv with 3" more free board and a play pen bow

This is awesome Rick. So I am envisioning a 19.5 foot closed bow cuddy cabin with a playpen pickle forked nose that sits on pontoons. This boat will be a slalom machine, with no wake at 30-34 mph at lines lengths of 15-35' off but can be loaded down to throw a tournament wakeboard wake and seats 12. The boat will be have a fully loaded with a BBQ that comes standard as well as a stereo system that blares Rocky Top on a loop. Also standard.

One question....Will there be hard tanks?

You guys have truly outdone yourself! You can put me down one of the first ones! Although I would like to see about an alternative to Rocky Top. Doesn't sit well with the folks on GA lakes. :)

And the real version with the Osborne Brothers.

I swear, I have the ONLY skier's choice product at our marina (probably 200 slips) on Center Hill.

Mine is a 2001 and I plan to upgrade in the next couple of years. I would love a new Moomba or Supra and think the advertising alone should make it worth it to Skier's Choice to cut me a great deal! Our dock is full of Mastercrafts and Malibus with at least 4 Tige's I can think of, probably 5 Nautiques, even an Axis and yes, even an Epic - but no supras and just my lonely Moomba!

I'm guessing an update / replacement for the LSV. As awesome as that boat is, it was born in 2006. Whatever it is, I mostly hope I can afford it!

Wolfman had a recent thread about how he caught the term "new Outback" on Moomba's Facebook page. I thought is was in reference to just a new 2012 model. But, now it has me wondering, maybe a redesign of the Outback. All the other models have been redesigned but the current hull is 03-present. http://yfrog.com/nyspmbmj I just didnt think it would happen with the recent release of the MOJO.

volfo
07-01-2012, 05:27 PM
I'd like a big, wide, v drive that surfs well and is just deep enough without being too deep and that I can afford. Lines of the LSV but with size of the Mojo. (that last part sounds like I'm describing a Supra 22 . . . )

volfo
07-01-2012, 05:31 PM
Hoops, I bet you're right. That photo doesn't look like the current outback, does it? If so, then maybe it's something else - but if that doesn't look like the current outback, then I bet that's the answer. That certainly doesn't look like a v drive unless it's a really big one with the engine mounted below the rear bench seat like a big Sea Ray Sundeck, and I doubt they've done that . . .

I'm guessing a redesigned topdeck for the LSV. Different seating arrangement and higher freeboard. What I would like is slightly deeper draft, heavier 22' boat, with more of a v-hull all the way to the stern unlike the current models that flatten out at the stern. So I continue to dream about a more surf-specific boat that doesn't need 2,500 lbs for a tournament wake.

My guess is a strictly a boardsports-specific boat to respond to Axis and Epic's recent entrance into the market. With wake boarding and surfing becoming more popular, boat buyers are increasingly looking at wake-specific boats (even at small sizes) and a good number could care less about crossover performance. Since Moomba is no longer the only choice when a buyer is in the market for a price point inboard I think they need to think more about what the competition is offering and what people are buying.

rdlangston13
07-02-2012, 01:35 PM
we have decided that our next boat is going to be pickle fork just due to the fact the two adults can sit in the bow facing backwards comfortably. since i dont really like axis it looks like tige would be our next choice and the R20 is probably the closest in our price range. problem is the r20 is small, we would like something 22 ft so that leads to the RZ2 which is too expensive...so maybe they are coming out with a pickle fork style lsv with the play pen bow cause i still dont like the mojo very much.

No, the mojo has a fugly dash and weird front end. The front end actually isn't that weird but they do need to flatten out the the far forward seat backs to make it more like a square so two adults can sit up there facing backwards without being funneled into each other

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder . . .

What you call fugly, I call functional. I love that all vitals can be seen at a glance versus a full scan as it was with my OBV and gauges that spanned some 2ft, side to side.

But, if you want fugly and 2 adults across the front, go grab yourself a MB Tomcat. One of the absolute worst front ends on a boat out there, IMO.

dusty2221
07-05-2012, 03:08 PM
Yeah, but does it slosh?

rdlangston13
07-05-2012, 05:35 PM

I agree, the MB front ends are hideous. Its not just the two solo gauges that are fugly lol. Its just the whole presentation of it. Axis i believe only has two main gauges and they are not fugly. I think it would be an easy fix for SC to make.

My guesses:
1. snap-in carpet
2. heavier dry boat. Could just be more stock ballast capacity. Both would be good.
3. no idea, but perhaps a walk-through on the sunpad like the tige Z3, with a step to sit on, and a retractable ski pylon.

That would be a shame if they eliminated it. I believe the XLV has the extra bells and whistles with fit and finish that buyers are looking for. moomba not having a 23ft boat in that space would be a shame when all the competitors are building there larger products.

:(I guess my next ride would have to be the 242 unless that flagship gets mothballed as well....

Dont want to here about the mojo because its not the same.. my two jaded cents

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been looking at new boats, and based on what rick posted above:
1-very nice feature that has been needed for years. that will make a HUGE difference in the boat, cleanliness, ease of replacing carpet and a great selling feature.
2-that's a nice number, but go a little further: I'll talk about 2 vendors that I have looked at. mb offers 1800lbs in their 21ft boat and it makes a nice surfwake, but it needs more. there's plenty of room to add an enzo style sack under the seats/rear locker, but you have to add pumps and now you defeat the purpose of the purevert system. tige offers 2k in surf ballast. again, good but needs more. theirs is simply plug and play with an enzo sack again. easy as pie for the owner. I hope that the new lsv is deep enough under the seats that an enzo sack would plug/play. that would be a huge selling feature over the mb as 1800lbs is a lot, but it won't be enough to get the surfwave that most will be looking for(except ed :) )
3-another great selling feature that doesn't require more $$.

wolfeman131
07-13-2012, 10:18 AM

you will be able to accomplish #2 "easy as pie."

I would think that mb and axis are in moomba's "pricepoint boat" market and that levels the field with axis and a step up on mb.

now give it a deepv hull and some deeper freeboard with a price somewhat loaded for under 52k and you now own the market again :)

I am in the market soon, love these new options coming out. I like a lot about the mojo but still frankly unsure which I'd order between that and the old LSV. I can't wait to see the new one, I'm guessing it may be my boat..

And I will be another that will be comparing the MB (probably 23 widebody) to the new LSV and the Mojo, both in which boats I like best and in the total value proposition. My current nearly flawless experience with an old Outback LS means my "tie" will go to moomba!

they need the seat on the mojo not the lsv , ( unlless of course its really DEEP)

My $0.02...

1. Awesome, all boats should be made like this.
2. 1800# is plenty for me, we surf my Outback sometimes with no ballast, just people. Much easier to switch sides.
3. Ehhh... not a biggie, I don't surf enough to really need it.

The part that concerns me is how the prices keep creeping up. At this rate I will never be able to afford any new boat, not even a Moomba. I have 5 more years to pay on my 2001 Outback! I'll probably have 1000 hours on it by then. I seem to remember a LSV coming in under $40k a few years back (maybe I am misrembering). If Moomba wants to own the market, figure out a way to drop prices another $10k. I would think the increase in orders would offset the profit per unit reduction.

Another thing I often think about is a more utilitarian boat. Everytime I go out on my dad's Pro-Line offshore fishing boat, I marvel at the simplicity and function based design of those boats. It seems that there would be a market for this type of boat. I know that MC tried this a few years ago with the CSX boats, but I think they missed the mark as they tried to make an upscale fishing boat. For me the purpose of a boat like this is to be very basic and no frills and easy to maintain, so instead of the upscale fishing boat, it should be a downscale watersports boat. Kind of like a fishing boat with an inboard. It would have to cost less to build. Or maybe not. Maybe all of that finished fiberglass costs more than all the vinyl and carpet covering everything up? For one example, I think if somone made a 21-22 foot center console DD inboard, (or V-drive) with a t-top that you can tow from, with some ballast bags, no carpet, and minimal vinyl cushions; and offer it for like $25k, they would sell like hot cakes. There could even be a salt water version with fresh water cooling and ballast pumps that work in salt water. Or maybe they would all be built that way? I often look on Boat Trader for inboard fishing boats similar to the old Fish Nautique to make into a project boat, but they are few and far between. (I have also heard that they wake on those is crap.)

Anyway, just some ideas.

Possibly but doubt my family would want to ride around or hang out in it. Doubt I would either. Strip out all the creature comforts and you start to lose those who are more "along for the ride".

Looking at something like that vs. a used well-equipped boat I'd go used for sure. Pretty much the 80/20 rule.

I don't think anyone makes a 21 foot boat for $25K sticker. New boats of any make of style that are in the 21' area seem to be more than that. Pontoon boats maybe.

I agree that mfgrs need to be creative in running their business to keep cost down without cutting corners on their products. They still need to produce a product that the consumers want. I believe they are moving in a direction that the consumers have already shown they want to go.

Different strokes for different folks. In my opinion the majority of the towboat market is more about the status/lifestyle rather than the fact its a purpose built boat. It amazes me how many BU247s, 230s, and x-55s are on our lake that have never pulled anyone behind them. They just have them because they and they looks cool!

If it gets to where I can't afford my wakeboat I'll have to move to a "fakeboard" boat with a I/O, tower, racks etc. and we will have to manage.

its the standard Digital Cruise Pro. Upgrading to the GPS version will use the same display, so NO WORRIES!

BTW - this is the same size/shape that was in my '08 OBV that came with the standard cruise that I easily upgraded to PP.

ya, just thinkin a few years down the road when pp introduces the next best thing after stargazer..

The cruise comments made me think of something. Why is the control for the cruise so far from where my hand rests while driving? I think it would be nice to have the cruise button (and maybe display too) above the throttle onthe right side of the dash.

wolfeman131

It has a digital readout for your set speed and actual speed ad well as water temp, etc. It would be kinda hard to read over by the throttle.
