View Full Version : Props...???

Well, I think it is time for a new prop here soon. A friend of our's 12 year old wanted to board behind our boat today since their older Centurion doesn't have a ballast system. So we filled up the rear 750s and the bag in the floor for a total of just under 1900 pounds. We also had 5 kids in the boat total weight was probably 375 pounds and we also had 6 adults. It took FOREVER for this boat to get on plane. We've had this problem before when we are Wakesurfing with a pretty full boat. When loaded like this and wakesurfing it has a hard time getting up to the set speed and staying there. I'm pretty sure I need a more torquey prop. I don't care about top end speed. We never really go faster than 30 mph anyway. No need to. The only thing I am concerned about is torque and fuel consumption. What is the best prop that will provide the torque that I need to improve this? I have heard good things about the Acme 1433 and 1847. I think they are both similar except the 1433 is a little better with the fuel consumption and also is better for trailer clearence. I am currently running an Acme 537....

And yes I did put people in the bow and the plate was all the way down and nothing helped. It probably took a good minute before it would plane out.

And FWIW, the kid was EASILY the best rider I have ever pulled behind my boat. 12 years old and he's doing backrolls and all kinds of stuff! I couldn't even begin to try to get booted as high as he was going! I was REALLY impressed! Maybe if I was younger but now, that ain't for this guy! He has been dubbed "Lil Parks"....

1235 if your trailer can handle it. Its a beast, 4k lbs of ballast and no problems out of the hole

How's it on the fuel consumption? Aren't all the trailers built with the same size area for the prop? the only time I have ever damaged a prop was last year with my old boat loading it on the trailer. I'm so paranoid everytime I load the boat now...

You can always shim up the trailer.

I put the 1847 on this year & couldnt be happier... I thought I read on here that the 1235/1433 was the prop for the most torque and the 1847 was good for torque without giving up as much top end speed & burning up as much gas... Where we ride there are some long rides to get to our spots so I picked the 1847... The difference over stock is amazing... We usually run 650 Ibs 1100 surf side 400 locker & 400 off surf & it is a beast... I also slalom ski & the stock prop struggled a bit to pull my 6 5 220 lbs up... Now w the 1847 its up in a second....

The 1433 and the 1847 are the same diameter and same pitch....just the cup is different. I bought the 1847 this year. Now the boat hits 5000rpm, about 40 mph in just few second and get on plane fast with 2000-2500lbs in the boat. With my old prop ( 14x18) is was hard to plane with just 1200lbs. for surfing with 2600-3000lbs the boat hold is speed easly. So my boat is now almost as fast as before ( I should check with a GPS), but pull a lot more........

I have the 1847. Same diameter and pitch as 1433 but extra cup, means a little less top end loss.

Big E - lots on here have moved from the 1433 to the 1847 due to the growl on the 1433 some have experienced (if I recall correctly but a little PWI at th e moment).

I had a heavy load of both people and ballast on my stock prop last year similar to what you are describing and it was a little embarrassing how long it took to get up to speed. Like you said, 30 seconds to a minute. This year first run with the 1847 I had about 2800lbs ballast and 5 peeps to test my freshly installed 1847. Got up on a plane in maybe 5-10 seconds I'd guess. That was impressive. I don't know if I'd call it night and day difference based on my limited experience so far but it definitely did the trick.

Maybe it's not your prop david

David - I had sort of a weird growl coming off the throttle but as said in another post I would compare it more to the backpressure sound of a V8 when shifting down to slow down.

Maybe give Acme a call directly and see what they think? Guy I talked to a few weeks back was very sharp with lots of suggestions and things to measure, watch or listen for.

You sure it's not the engine roaring or tranny/v-drive (huffing and puffing) under a heavy load?

With any of the props talked about here has anyone noticed any prop burn over time? Im trying to decide on a new prop also.

Are you guys burning more or less gas with the 1847?

Cliffs: The 1235 is the tried and true ACME torque monster. The 1433 is identical to the 1235, just reduces the diameter slightly to clear boatmate trailers on some Moombas and Supras. The 1847 takes the 1433 and adds a little more cup to retain a little more top end at the expense of a little bit of grunt.

This is my primary concern. If the consumption is the same as with the 1433 then that's what I'm going to go with. I do not care about speed...if I did I wouldn't have bought a wake boat.

The 1847 would have similar if not slightly better consumption than the 1433.

its not an engine noise, im not sure what it is. it was real bad with the stock oj and the 1847 reduced it alot and it is really only noticeable now when im running alot of weight. i had the dealer adjust the alignment this spring so that should be good.

all i know is my boat makes more noise than my buddies axis a20 or my other buddies mobius lsv. maybe its falling apart?? lol

My experience so far has been better "mileage" with the 1847 over the stock 13.7x17.5. I can't say on the 1433. Did a lot of surfing, tube towing, and just cruising today and still have over half a tank left even after a few hour run a week or so ago on the same tank. Nice!

Still doesn't feel a whole lot different to me with just running around. I think the real night-day difference is when loaded down heavy with ballast, people, or towing a big mongo 3-person tube. Seems to still pull as if the boat is empty.

E. plus one on the 1235 , but Al did a great comparison on props a while back, maybe to years.

soo with everyone thats happy with the 1847 and me finishing off my stock OJ prop when i hit a log im going to get the 1847..along with how it takes forever to get up to par and how sometimes it just bogs right out with all the 1200 lbs and 4-6 people in the boat

I have the 1433 and found it to be a noticeable upgrade from factory oj wake prop. No experience with the others.

23 gallons of fuel, 7.5hrs on the meter this weekend, and never had a problem getting out of the hole or planing! I love the 1235!! I have no trailer issues, slight growl every once and a while, and she tops out at 38mph at 5200rpm.

Hit a rock bar yesterday....right smack in the middle of the cove! No warning, no designation...just random hidden rock bar! Went from 10 feet to 2.5 feet in a blink of an eye! Water didn't even look shallow. Luckily all that got messed up is the prop and surprisingly it's not that bad. Had a lot of vibration right after so we idled all the way back to the ramp...45 mins - 1 hour. Got it on the trailer and looked and the blades are bent a little and there is a small nick in one of them. Going to send it off to Acme if there isn't a local shop that can do it. I have a call in with the dealer and am waiting on a call back. Acme says 3 weeks to fix. If so that pretty much is the rest of my season. Might get one or two more after that but it's pretty much done.

After reading through this thread again I think I will be picking up a 1433. If any of you know where I can get one cheaper than the $475 from Nettles let me know...Thanks for all the info guys.
