hey guys, my boat this weekend running a little bit hot 180. I know that is not out of the normal range. I did put a new impeller in just 3 hours ago. I did how ever re use the old gasket. There also seems to be a little water dripping out around the cover so the gasket is not sealed properly. I am going to get a new one tomorrow. Do you think this is why it would be running approx 20 dregrees warmer than normal??

Mine routinely runs anywhere from 160 to 180 depending on how hard and long I've been running it. If I am loaded with people And ballast and pull someone at 22 mph for 10 min or so it will sit at 180 but when I slow to idle it will slowly drop to the 160s.

Mine runs normal around 170-180 also. In march/april it may run a lil cooler but water is a lot cooler to but the norm and majority of the time she runs right under 180. Don't think that's a bad temp to be at

i know 180 is over heating but as far as I can rmember back to last summer it was closer to 160. I will put the new gasket in and try that and see what happens, it was running near 180 with out being loaded.

A really doubt a small amout of drippage is going to account to 20 degrees hotter running, My 2 cents also is mine will run between 160-180 range, been that way from day one.

it is not the drip age but maybe the air it is sucking in could be what is causing it.

do you guys run strainers on your raw water intake?

do you guys run strainers on your raw water intake? I highly recommend one. If your raw water pump is leaking water while running its because of pressure. If it leaks while stopped the it can be sucking air.

No strainer on mine, I don't want to worry about a strainer clogging up and causing me to over heat

Thermostats will clog with rust over time. Strainers have a clear bowl so they can be inspected and cleared/cleaned when necessary. With a strainer you will not have to worry about your impeller (heart of the engine) from being torn to pieces from debris passing thru it. If suck up enough stuff to plug your strainer would you really want all that stuff running thru your rubber impeller and then thru your tranny cooler which could plug then thru your engine where it can lodge in various places and interfer with cooling , circulation pump, thermostat, water passages........makes me think why would you ever not have a strainer....cheap insurance.

Also lake or river water temp will affect your operating temp, I see mine creep up over the summer as the river warms up
