Hey guys, my wonderful wife 2.0 recently got me the new Liquid Force Trip 142 for me barfday. I love the board but was wondering about the center fins. I have recently gotten some advice on here that I need to work on riding opposite leg forward I assume to work into being able to do a "switch foot". Should the fins come off?? Seems like they are gonna catch when I try to switch.

On my trip I never put the fins in. If you never use them you never know what you are/aren't missing :) Then again I like the loose feel with my SS - 4 fins no bottom features.

I would take them off though, anything that may cause a higher percentage of faceplant is no good.

nope if you remove the fins to switch then it will be squirlly as all hell. the board should be rockered enough to spin without catching the fins , your center of balance should spin between your feet. try spinning switch to normal at about 12 to 15mph so not to kill yourself trying , you will get the hang of it.

I say give it a go. Worst case, it will take you all of 1 minute to put them back on. You may find you like a slightly looser feel with them off. Never know until you try.

I agree with Ryan. The trip was my first board and I didn't like the feel with the center fins in. I always found myself ollie'ing to go switch rather than surface 180. Try it and see if you like it, if not put them back in.

man... almost 50 / 50 there. I like the idea of the 12mph practice.

Casey,

Have you ever seen, or heard of, "the book" series of wakeboarding instructional dvd's? They suggest many training exercises at slow(er) speed to get the proper technique down w/out hurting yourself.

No, but at this point I am open to all ideas... this self taught stuff isn't working. I took (2) hard slaps to the side of the head last weekend just trying to ride over the wake. I will look into the DVD's.

Just looked on Amazon, I can get the box set for 45.00. Maybe I will order it up.

Thaks yall! Eric, I think I am all set, but thank you for the offer. Maybe by the end of summer I can actually consider myself a wakeboarder!

I've thought about it. I am sure being around good riders would do me wonders.

Take em' off. IMO if you feel comfortable riding and edging around in your normal stance the center fins are "doing their job" by making it more difficult to free the board up. The LF Trip has very good molded side fins which should provide enough traction. You can always put them back on if your not ready to go without them.

As for "The Book" series and learnwake.com, they are IMO the absolute best resources for teaching and learning to wakeboard. From learning to get up on a boom to doing the most advanced tricks these 2 resources provide the most bang for the buck.
