Looks like my June started out a lot better than the above maniacs however, it was just as nerve racking. i've been doing some OJT with my 13 year old son and allowing him to drive the boat. today was day 1 of him flying solo by launching the boat and staying with it while I parked the truck/trailer. he drove the boat to the courtesy dock and pickedme up with no problems. very stressful but it all turned out well and this should make my launch/recovery process much easier. he loaded the boat to and actually did better than i do it seemed like!!

Son hasn't hit the wake board since taking a nasty fall last year that knocked him out. He got back in the saddle today with a little run. He didnt want any ballast, said he just wanted to take a few runs to get back in the swing of thingshttp://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/jpetty3023/lake%20day%20060112/9b2db309.jpg

David, I agree, but damn it would be nice to have both!! Though I have to admit, if I could find a job up there I'd pack up and move to Austin (or hill country area in general) tonight.

Jason looks like a blast. My wife has an uncle that has a house on Belton. We usually make it up there once a year, though I've never had my boat up there. He has a lime green and white Tige. One of these days we'll have to take ours up there and hook up with you to show us around and hang out. Anyone with a burnt orange boat is OK in my book!

Have made it out twice so far, this shot was last Friday where we showed up at our favouritre spot ballasted up and then had to rescue a Nautique with 11 peeps that was stranded (engine was overheating) I offered my spare impellar but they weren't too familiar with their engine. It was only a 45 min tow back to the marine :o(. Oh well you have to do what you have to do!

Looks like a great time. You rented a lakehouse for the weekend? Nice! All of you people with access to this type of setup make me so jealous. I'd have to drive 4.5 to 5.5 hours to get to a decent lake to do this.

My daughter had surgery on Thursday so we didn't get out this weekend so hopefully I will have some pictures to contribute to this thread. I have 3 packages coming this week (Wednesday) so I am stoked and will post up the surprises! (wife has no idea.....)

2 hours sir! hour and a half to the nearest good sized body of water and then 2 hours to get to where we prefer to ride. The crappy part of living in West Houston.

I do remember skiers alley and I remember that the water was only good right before the sun went down. Trust me, your idea of good and my idea of good are totally different...come to the 2012 Texas Jam, you will see what I mean ;)

Directions worked great on the way home...but yeah that GPS was NOT helpful at all on the way down!! It doesn't help that half the roads down there don't have road signs or are named something else other than what the directions said!

LOL Well, I do the same thing whenever I pass over any part of the lake, gotta see what boats are out. As you were headed south on I-75 you can't really see it but to the far left just past the northbound lanes is the Blockhouse boat ramp, which is where I launch. To the right if you were to go around the far end of the lake you can see is where Hwy 41 passes over the lake, which is about a mile from my house.

No boating for us Sunday... really did nothing Sunday... oh well... If the weather plays nice maybe some evening this week, or worst case Saturday which we have some friends we are taking out meeting us at Blockhouse.

During the week yes CnS, get a little choppy here and there depending on boat population and what not. Belton lake is 12,300 surface acres so it's a decent size lake. There's spots to go when we have north winds then when south winds come in (a lot) you just go to the other side of the lake. Once you get to know the lake you can always find glass, specially during the week

No fish as I only tossed a lure to the water one time--was more of a sight seeing time and go snorkling in the springs, which we did not do as we left the masks in the boat about 50yards back.

This one is of Addy or as we call her "The General". I can already tell she is going to be stubborn as a mule like her old man. If you notice her hair is a little bit shorter on her left side bc about a year ago she pilfered a pair of scissors from her sister and sat in her closet and went to work. Do you have a 750 or 400 in the locker. With the 750 in one corner and the ski locker filled we always had a nice clean wave, oh and the plate all the way up.

rdlangston13
06-11-2012, 08:36 PM
Looks like the houston area has some sick spots.

We have the Trinity which is a good ways outside of town but the best water. It had no sand bars that I know of, is deep, and runs for 10 or 15 miles in guessing. No real good beaches to party at however. We usually just drop and anchor at a wide section and swim or go to Bethy creek and anchor at the sand bar and swim. Water at the sand bar is 3-4 ft so it's perfect for this.

Then there is the Upper San Jacinto, you have to know your way around here as the water is shallow and there is a good amount of sandbars. Also the rideable area is probably only a mile or two at best. You also have to watch out for those high speed big block jet boats that like to do 90 mph. There are however places to beach and hang out.

Then you have the Lower San Jacinto, the water here can run very salty without rain. There is big beach that is shown in those pictures that a 4 wheeler park backs up to. Water is deeper than the USJ but you still have to know where you are going because the sand bars are still present. The rideable area is bigger than the USJ but still smaller than the trinity and there are those huge cigarette boats that run 80 mph down the river as well as small yacht type boats.

Jason look into adding a IBS bag under the front seats. We did and man did it make a difference. I added a reversible pump for it, but you could easily T off of one of the existing pumps with a wye valve. Again, I can't emphasize how much difference it made to the wave.

Chawk, for starters, don't waste the other half of the wake. Try to hit the wake both ways. I made this mistake and it really hurt me ever getting any better. Also, ride goofy/switch a good percentage of the time every time out.

dusty2221

Chawk, we should meet up and do some riding. Kane's comment is spot on. Use the early days to get a good foundation. Start riding switch asap so later down the road it will feel natural, and do NOT cut out toeside wake jumps. Practice practice practice!

Not sure how I missed this.....She is 3 and I am going to try. Summer is tough bc my wife plans a lot of family stuff for me. As it stands we were scheduled to go to Hilton Head to visit my family but I am working to get this moved. Depends on a few things, but its about 50/50 right now. Tried to make one more day on the river today dodging rain and failed. About 10 seconds into my first wakeboarding set it starting sprinkling so I decided to get on the boat and wait for it to clear up. It then commenced to to rain steadily so we decided to head back to bethy creek. After we made it through the cut from the river to the resort area it was raining so hard we could t see shore. It let up a little and we were able to dock and ride it out for 30 min or so under a covered patio while the moomba just got drenched. Bilge pump was on almost constantly. Once we got a clearing we just loaded it on the trailer and went home.

As edging in lock the handle on your front hip keeping both hands on handle. Once in the air push the handle down and try to go behind your front knee. This will keep you twisted so you can land on toe edge. Just before you land release back hand for balance and stand tall against the line to edge away.

The Toe 180 is an easier trick to do though. I taught my son the 180 first to build confidence to commit to the ts w2w jump. The difference is once in the air with both hands on handle, move handle to lock on back hip and let your body untwist naturally. Now you will land on your switch heel edge so keep both hands on handle and lean to heels and edge away.

Nice job. Just some friendly advice though to help you improve and make your 180's more fluid is to focus on pop, then rotate. To me it looks like you are rushing through your rotation. On the second attempt you slipped out because you were on your heels. Practice leaning over your toes when you land and edge away. I'm trying to help my wife with this. She rushes through the rotation and slips out on the downslope of the wake because she's not leaning over her toes.

Nice job though. Pop then rotate.

Any of you guys have advice for a Backroll? I have been trying this for a little while but I think my approach and take off are wrong.

I guess I am not 100% sure of when to start my rotation, and I think I have been starting it too early.

I am right foot (goofy) so I edge in, and maybe 3/4 up the wake, I start to put the handle on my right inside hip and tilt my head slightly to my left + down, looking towards my rear foot on the board. However, I start to do all of this maybe 1/2 - 3/4 up the wake, which I am not sure is right.

Any tips or pointers are appreciated.

dusty2221
06-21-2012, 12:21 PM
You are turning your head the wrong direction. You want to edge all the way up the wake (the backroll is a pop trick, not a lip trick like the tantrum) and at the peak of the wake look over your lead shoulder. I'm goofy like you. I look over my right shoulder, over and back, almost like I'm checking what might be slightly behind/next to me. Do not try to leave for the flip to early, let the wake give you some pop before looking over the shoulder.

Give that a shot.

Shotty quality here but this is how we did it. You will just have to ignore the washed out wake and then the quality from the tube is lacking. We bought a waterproof wind up camera to give it a practice run.

We went just a little shorter than the rider, probably around 10 ft like David said ..

In the "what trick are you working on" thread there is a learnwake video on back rolls that is really good. Watch it, like 100 times. It gives you all the fundamentals and instruction on what to do, then you just have to do it. I have been stopping the videos in progression to see their handle position, head position, and all of that other good stuff. Take a look. It was posted by tnbrooks I think?

Here is the link: https://forum.moomba.com/showpost.php?p=178217

Langston, I don't know if you want the suggestions but your GF/wife is letting off her edge and flattening out before the wake which is why she's not clearing it completely. My wife does this from time to time and really practices keeping on edge all the way through the wake. If she does that she'll pop and clear it no problems and you'll see a huge smile on her face. Have her try the progressive edge in the standing position with knees slightly bent, edge all the way up the wake and stand tall at the lip and focus on keeping her handle at her hip. Do this a few times to get the feel and each time she rides she should start out like that. She'll be riding w2w all the time after that.

And hey, if you don't want me giving suggestions just let me know, totally cool.

Thanks for sharing all the videos. You have a great riding spot.

Not sure when you would pull the handle to your right hip? That may help to keep you from going to revert on landing but shouldnt be necessary. A proper backroll should be a 50/50 position basically a barrell roll around the line. Pretend the line/handle extends through your navel and you rotate around that axis.
