In the "what trick are you working on" thread there is a learnwake video on back rolls that is really good. Watch it, like 100 times. It gives you all the fundamentals and instruction on what to do, then you just have to do it. I have been stopping the videos in progression to see their handle position, head position, and all of that other good stuff. Take a look. It was posted by tnbrooks I think?

Here is the link: https://forum.moomba.com/showpost.php?p=178217

Langston, I don't know if you want the suggestions but your GF/wife is letting off her edge and flattening out before the wake which is why she's not clearing it completely. My wife does this from time to time and really practices keeping on edge all the way through the wake. If she does that she'll pop and clear it no problems and you'll see a huge smile on her face. Have her try the progressive edge in the standing position with knees slightly bent, edge all the way up the wake and stand tall at the lip and focus on keeping her handle at her hip. Do this a few times to get the feel and each time she rides she should start out like that. She'll be riding w2w all the time after that.

And hey, if you don't want me giving suggestions just let me know, totally cool.

Thanks for sharing all the videos. You have a great riding spot.

Yeah after we got home from the river and viewed all the footage I concluded the same thing you said and have relayed it to to her. She just needs to maintain her edge all the way through the wake. Didn't really ride much after that wipe out, it shook her up a little bit. Hell it shook me up a little bit!

And I don't mind the advice. I think the next time we go out she will be able to clear it after watching the video ad seeing what we need to focus on.

dave are you running any sacs in the boat?

We are running the gIII full (1200 lbs) and had 4 people in the boat, except on the videos from the tube, then we only had 3 people in the boat

I am going to be the odd man out if there is a "sandbar" at the Texas get together. I just don't see myself beaching my boat, regardless of if 150 other peeps do it.

02Outback

The Texas Jam is at a different location from the pictures David posted. He posted pictures from San Jacinto River.

Texas Jam is at Bethy Creek (Trinity River) and we don't beach there. We tie up in this one location in front of Bethy Creek - no need to beach!

:)

yeah but im not pissed off. probably just didnt know they were taking a picture and im trying to navigate a river i rarely go to. all these pictures were at the lower san jac river which has some shallow areas and hidden sand bars where you have to know where you are going and it was my first time. the trinity where the jam will be is like 30 ft deep through out. no hidden sand bars!

Dusty, the sandbar where we anchor and swim on the trinity is still like 3-4 feet deep so no beaching is necessary. just drop anchor, tie up, and pop a top

Interested to hear why you're hesitant to beach on a sandbar Dusty? Interesting for me because I grew up hanging out at a sandbar so I don't think twice about it, when maybe I should be?

Maybe not the reason Dusty doesn't do it, but I know my boat will never be beached bc I don't want the boat scratched up. Maybe my sand is more "scratchy" but just makes me nervous.

ChrisK
06-22-2012, 05:12 PM
Yeah, I guess I can see that if the "grit" of your sand is heavier than what I'm used to. The sandbars I'm used to have very fine, soft sand...

I looked at a black 21v when I was looking for a boat and it had been beached and there were scratches all over the keel and in the gel coat. Needless to say I didn't buy that boat.

I won't ever beach mine either. It's just not worth it to me.

ive got scratches from beaching...to see them you have to lie down on your back and wiggle under the trailer and look between the first two bunk boards... no one will ever see them without doing that so i dont care too much. i dont beach often, just a few times a year

Ha! Believe me, it was gone besides the fat before long. We put down some serious chow that night and the next day. That corn was some of the freshest I have ever eaten. We are doing it again this coming week although this time I have actually taken some days off to enjoy myself the entire time. Can't wait.

The water there is waaaay better than I get to see on my home lake. Plus it was in the middle of the day. The wake behind my buddies boat was actually pretty fun. It was a Hurricane deck boat with a 750 fat sac in it. Ha!

Last night I went running after work. There's a culvert with a shallow pool of water that comes from the small lake at the park I run at. Every year around this time tons of catfish spawn in this little pool. Soon they'll have no room. They get pretty darn big buts it's early so they still have time to grow. Snapped a pic with my phone.

Hoping for the Moomba maiden voyage of 2012 this week - which will be almost the exact same time frame as last year and the year before.

Played around with creating panoramics in Photoshop - kinda fun and gives me some ideas for this summer and desktop wallpapers across dual monitors. No, I don't have a twin electric trolling motor setup! Photoshop just didn't quite know what to do with it apparently.

If I'm not mistaken it is the 2012 Tige Z3. I surfed one last weekend, and I have to tell you...it's awesome. We had the stock ballast filled (650 in rear corner, 800 up front) with one 400lb fat sac on the seat, and the wave was taller and longer with more push than my LSV with 1100 in corner, 400lbs on seat, IBS full (~400-500?). The cool thing about it is the rub rail was still a foot above the waterline. He just ordered the custom "enzo" sacs from wakemakers for it so I'm anxious to ride the wave with those badboys full.

The all new 2012 Tige Z3, they have the 1100 in the rear, plus all the people. Surf compition quality wave man. It was awesome.

Tons of push and big fat beefy wave. You could get pretty fare back and have no problem comming forward.

I saw this boat at the 2012 Portland boat show and fell in love with it. Now that i spent 2 days in it, and Claudia did the same, she even said make it happen Malo, i want that boat in our garage.

This was the reason i preplaned for building our garage on the house 27ft deep, because i know our next boat is going to be a 23-24ft.

Ill wait 2-3 seasons max and then im going to seriously consider my options, hopefully by then SC will bring a new Supra out with a surf minded hull i can test out and see if i can stay in the family.

Notice the water temp in the bottom right. The first couple inches of water were absoloutely that hot as it was 108 today with no wind as you can see. There was nothing refreshing about the water today unless you wanted to dive down 6+ feet. By the time the sun went down it was reading 95.

That's just not refreshing at all. I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. First summer with the 21V, no Bimini at the time, we were camping at a private lake and it was 100+ degrees all three days and the water was at least mid 90's. You couldn't stop sweating matter what you did and we had to stop in between riders and all jump in the water to try and cool off.

It was a fun but HOT weekend.

Yup. Gets like that here at times... I tried to rig on of my standalone launchpad ballast pumps up to a 20 foot length of hose with a sprinkler head in an attempt to bring up cold water to get sprinkled with... water pressure was too much for the pump casing and it shorted out... but it'd be nice to be able to bring up some cooler water to wet down with and cool off some, more refreshing. I may try it again but with my extra Jabsco pump this time ;-)

Take your 20 foot hose, add a weight to the end of it, Drop it down into the lake then hook the pump up at the boat side, it will pull the water up because you already pre primed the hose. LOL

That water temp sucks! I will take our refreshing 75* water everyday.

rdlangston13

The worst part about the hot water is not how it feels. Hell I still think 95 degree water is refreshing on a 105 degree day. The worst part is how fast 95 degree water tends to evaporate. Lakes are full now big I suspect levels are about to start dropping in a hurry if we don't get a storm in the next couple weeks. Our 10 day forecast shows like one day with a 10% chance and 0 the rest of the time.

But one thing that drives me crazy is how every posts pictures of their car thermostat when the temp is over 100. C'mon people, do we really have that much of a short term memory. It's summer in Texas and it WILL frequent triple digits. Did it last year and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that....

Finally a meager contribution to make to the picture thread as we took our maiden voyage last night!! River is still looking crappy so we hit a little local lake. Air temp high 70's, not sure on the water as I left my temp gauge in the truck but it was comfortable, maybe mid 60's.

I tried the assigning of roles too - 'you're on the rope, you're on the flag, you're on the camera' Eh, that sorta worked but this is what happens when you give the camera to the 15yr old step daughter...

And I've got probably 20 or so more shots like that and maybe 2 of us actually riding. We'll be reassigning the camera role next time.

Did a little surfing and a little boarding. Had a bit of trouble with whitewash on the surf wave and after several runs figured out we were just going too fast and I think I was about 800lbs light on ballast than what I normally like. Still good times though!

If I had the black hull it might be naked. We looked at an Outback V like that and it looked great. The white LSV hull is a little boring (or ao she says ).
