Anchor Suggestions?

I boat at Lake Lanier in GA and it is a very sandy lake. I bought a cheap ass wal mart anchor and can't catch anything with it... My friend says I need a 50 pounder that I can lop off the bow.... Problem is that with all the sacs I might not have room.

Any suggestions?

Dusty is already on vacation for the Holiday weekend, but he swears by these. He uses this for his 24 ft Supra.

My other suggestion is to use your friend as your anchor. :)

50 lbs sounds like great ballast. Better make it 75lbs.

Read up on it. It will never get hung up(meaning it will never get stuck when you try to pick it up). It has a spring the will allow the bar to release from the fluke so u can easily pull it out.

I use one on a lsv and a 24 foot pontoon. Holds in all conditions and releases with ease.

Yes its actually extremely clever how it will release from the fluke and then pulls out like butter. Would never own another anchor...

The digger folds just about flat. So it fits perfectly at the bottom of any of the lockers

I would try letting out more line. I have a very small anchor and I have no problems at Lanier.

C'mon, son! Around here we need to either help our brothers spend their money (new anchor) or laugh hysterically at them when they do something silly (lug around a 50lb anchor/ballast combo).

Box Anchor hands down, and don't forget the Danik Hook either. I've tried many anchors and the box is the best by far, poll on WW and see the ratio if'n you don't believe me. I've set the box and had four other boats tied to me i the wind and it doesn't budge! Super easy to pull up and won't get snagged. The small is all you need.

I use one like this guy - 25lbs. We have river currents to deal with and and sandy bottom to so we need both weight and teeth.

6 years now and the only time I've had problems holding is in 20+ mph winds where we shouldn't have been on the water anyway.

We boat an Lanier too and that's what I use and it's the best anchor I've had. It held strong last weekend during a real bad storm up at Carter's Lake. It's pricey but worth it in my opinion. The small one is the perfect size. Its really not that small and is pretty hefty...

Agreed, I never fold mine either for the same reason and it lays right into one of the bow spaces nicely.

+2 to the anchor lsvboombox uses... I got mine on amazon for I pretty good deal...

I have both a box and 50lbs one. The box works great to dig in and when you have current but if it cannot diggin then it will move on the bottom. 50 lbs works great for no current or wind.

That’s funny.....My little navy anchor is now at the bottom of Lanier for good. I tried for 45 minutes to get the thing un-hooked. I pulled it in all directions with my boat but it just wouldn’t budge. That is the first time I couldn’t get one un-hooked.

Nothing you can do but put a buoy on it and use it next time.

Just head out to a party cove early in the morning and go shopping underwater. That is where one can find the anchors needed for a summer. The Outback does work as a great dive boat. Thanks to all that contribute to my anchor fund, just leaves me with more gas money to enjoy. Last Saturday morning 1 dive = 3 anchors.
