Can't seem to find anything online, any of you guys change a thermostat recently and remember if you use both the rubber o-ring AND the triangle gasket? It seems like the rubber t-stat o-ring is way too thick, making it so the housing gasket won't lay flush..

You should only be using 1 gasket. I havnt had mine out so i dont know if its an oring or not. Generally in T stats its a flat gasket or RTV sealer. When in doubt get a tube of RTV and spread a thin bead around the edge of the sealing surface, be sure to wrap the bolt threads so it doesnt leak. Dont use too much, just enought so it squeshes out when you tighten the bolts.

Thanks for the info. I ended up going without the o-ring, I just put black RTV in the t-stat depression, then installed the t-stat and placed the flat gasket over top. Used Indian Head gasket sealer on the flat gasket.

Skidm told me not to use any sealant. I didn't and it never leaked.
