Anyone have a problem with these starting to peel off? After we put the boat back on the trailer yesterday, while I was wiping it down I noticed that the first M is starting to peel off already after only 29 hours. Was thinking about using 3M outdoor double sided tape to fix it. If anyone else is having or had this problem what did you use? I think that it's pretty bad they would start to peel already on a year old boat with not much usage but that may just be me...

Call Scott at Atlanta Marine before you do anything.

Since you don't know exactly what the prior owner, or dealer, may have done to/with the boat who knows why it might be coming off. I have a suspicion that someone got some sort of heavier chemical cleaner or gas on that area.

I base this off the posts from KSmith from last year where he stated that he tried everything to get the glue residue off his boat. He had to remove the remaining letters he had after his wife peeled a few off on the guidepole. But, I agree that it seems strange to me that its coming up.

Hey Nash,

Are they pealing off clean, meaning no adhesive or foam left stuck to the boat where they are peeling back or is there some adhesive and foam still stuck to the boat when you gently lift the loose parts away from the boat?

I had a hell of a time getting the adhesive off. Where mine peeled back there was adhesive and foam still stuck to teh boat and if the loose areas hadn't folded back far enough to put a crease in the chrome I'd probably tired to fix them. But I peeled the letters off and then fought like a rabid dog to get the adhesive and foam off. Finally used gas and plastic razor blades. Heck of a mess but it worked. I had been convinced that it was the boat rubbing up against the guide poles when pulling the boat out but perhaps there is a defect lurking there somewhere...

I have a replacement set of the OEM letters on order from Atl Marine. Hopefully it is not a defect in the product. Too expensive to keep buying these things each year...

Drew, I have called and left Scott two messages regarding my bow handrail issue and haven't had either call returned yet. I spoke to him one time and thats when he asked I call him back last week to setup a time where I could drop it off. I called him on Monday and then again on Tuesday or Wednesday and still haven't heard from him. I realize that they are obviously busy as the season is getting started so they probably won't be able to get back to me right away but I think a week is kinda pushing it. I will call him today and see if I can get in touch with him.

Kraig, There doesn't seem to be any or at least very little foam or adhesive stuck to the boat. It seems to be pretty clean. We were in a hurry trying to get everything done yesterday and I didn't get to inspect it too much. I know that it is either two parts on the M or the M and O. There isn't a crease or anything so they can be reused. I think I heard those letters were $300 a side...is that right? If so and these come off I will just pull them off completely instead of paying $300 for some letters that shouldn't be peeling off in the first place. Not after ONE year of little use. I have had the boat 2 weeks and this weekend was the first weekend where we really got to use it. The boat started with 22.3 hours now it has over 30. In one weekend we put over 25% of it's total use the year prior on this boat.

The only thing that I can think of that would possibly be the culprit here is that we did some surfing yesterday for about 2 hours or so and were leaning pretty heavy to the passenger side. So the letters were submerged and it would've been the water pressure flowing over them. But, again, with the age and lack of prior use of this boat there is no excuse for there to be something wrong with these letters or anything else with this boat...in my opinion.

Update: Just called ATL Marine again and spoke with Cindy. She believes they should be able to get the Letters replaced under warranty so that is a good sign. We also talked about my handrail issue and I'm going to try and bring it in tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully they can have it all fixed by this weekend...

Indeed ^^^^

Nash, Yeah that sounds completely different than what happened to mine. Where it is clean under the loose areas makes me think that it could have been from the install if there were small areas that were not 100% cleaned before they letters were installed.

Mine are loose as well, they were covered under the warranty also. The new set is just sitting in my garage waiting for the old ones to fall off...

When I took it to ATL marine the other day I noticed that its happening on both sides. They are confident they can cover under warranty and I hope so because with the handrail repair and ballast pump reprogram I'm a little afraid of the bill!

Handrail should be covered under warranty to?

The reprogram shouldn't be much more than an hours labor, 85 bucks maybe. But from all the good stuff I hear about ATL Marine on the boards whatcha wanna bet your bill is zero?

Not sure about the handrail issue. Would be nice. I think it should as the boat isn't a year old yet. It's right on the cusp. I think previous owner's purchase date was May 14, 11. Basically the nut and washer just rattled loose and fell out. The problem is getting back behind there to put it back on. We spent 5 hours trying all kinds of things and could only get the nut on a couple of turns. That area is so tight it's hard to get back there without taking off the bolster.

In all honesty I am expecting at least a $400 bill. Shop rate is $115/hr :-(

Dealer I purchased from said they would reimburse me $150 toward the repair but that's only going to cover the time to get the bolster off!

If the SC gods allow me to get out of there for $200 I will be completely amazed and will forever speak of the greatness of SC and ATL Marine! :-D

I also have a courtesy light out...failed to mention that. I think I'll try to fix that one on my own though if I can figure out how to pop the light assembly out...

Picked the boat up today and I am happy to report that Skiers Choice covered both of my issues under warranty! I can't say enough about the people over at Atlanta Marine! I met Drew over there last Friday and spent a couple hours over there just hanging out and checking out some things and they are just really good people. Scott really took care of me over there and I really appreciate it. I won't forget it.

I also got some new guide pole covers to rep Atlanta Marine!

Now, I'm ready for Thursday...camping and hitting the wakes!
