Swim deck on or off?

Hey guys... I always have the swimdeck on when I pull the boat. The thought periodically crosses my mind that someone might not see it and run into it at a light or something. Who takes the swim deck off when trailering?

I'd say it's a PITA to take on and off - I'd rather take my chances leaving it on. I take mine off for winter storage - that's it.

If I got rearended by a car they'd probably slide up under it and hit the trailer/hull and we'd be talking some serious other damage. If it were a truck or something bigger it may be a direct contact with the platform. Either way somebody's going to be paying for some really nice improvements to my boat!

Good enough point I reckon... but that would have you out of commision for a while... I am still waiting on my truck, I imagine a boat would take way longer to fix!

I only take it off to get it in the garage and that is a pia to do.

I roll with it on... mine has to come off to get in the garage as well. Taking it on and off doesn't seem that bad to me, but I have to hook up with 8" drop, pull out of garage, drop and switch hitches.

Don't sweat the small stuff. If you get rear ended the swim platform is the least of your worries. Not enough hours in the day to worry bout small stuff Chawk

I always remove mine to get in the garage. I attach it before towing and strap it down to the trailer so it doesn't wobble around. I think it helps a lot as others have had issues with their brackets. Just putting a little tension on it so it doesn't flop keeps the holes from rounding out and creating more slop.

I usually use the big orange home depot flags hanging from mine, especially when coming home as you never know if the guy behind you was the drunk loading his boat at the ramp :)

I do. Only take a minute. Rides in the back of the Suburban when towing to or from the ramp. Probably not necessary, but hoping the extra effort over time keeps the brackets securely mounted and swim platform from coming loose.

Always tow with mine on. Used to take it off to get it into the garage and then back on again to get to the lake. But now I will leave it on for good as I can just back it into the shop :) No more folding the tower either. This year is gonna be sweet!!

Greatest feeling ever Viking. It was a great day when I moved from a short storage unit and having to fold the tower to the big unit and leavin it up and ready to launch!! Enjoy

If someone were to run into your swim deck then they're way too f'ing close anyway and would have just rear-ended you anyway.

I tow with mine on. But now kane has me thinking about putting a strap on it to prevent it bouncing. I'll have to take a look at the brackets and mounts this weekend a little further and see if anythings changed in two years of towing.

It doesn't take much. Just a little bitty ratchet strap from the corner of the support tied down to the trailer -- I hook it to the back end of the hook in my tie down strap and then cinch it down. Be careful on the way home though. Sometimes the boat shifts forward 3/4" to a full inch and the straps hang loose. Have to stop and tighten them up sometimes.

Go with the set screw idea Ian did. I noticed my Mojo had them from the factory. If we get to the lake this weekend, I'll post pics.

That's what I used. All it takes is one per side. It keeps my platform rock solid. Push it down in between the platform bracket and the bracket on the boat and break it off down low once it's nice and tight. You will never even know its there once you finish.

Chawk, I remove my platform on occasion with no problem. The shims come right out with the platform and can be popped right back down between the brackets. Get the composite ones, not the wood ones.
