Outback V Ballast help

I was wondering if anybody had the dimensions of the rear lockers of the 09+ Outback V? My family just got a 2012 Outback V with the Gravity I system. I was also wondering what would be the biggest sized fat sac that could fit within those lockers? Thanks guys.

Folks have gotten the 1,100's in there but have reported back that they liked the 750's just as well, or better.

The stock gravity III bags are 400's but as Wolfe says the 750's are probably the best options for an obv.

Th 565 are really spendy comparable to the 750.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it, I'm starting to think maybe I should just buy the 750s for a little extra. How is wake with the 750s for wakeboarding? Sorry for all the questions.

With the 750s would you have to reinforce the back lockers. Just wondering myself since we to are waiting for the arrivals our outback v in may.

We are running the gravity III on the boat we are building. Reading all the posts though we will probably up grade the sacks

750 are 149 each, the 565 are 209 each, they are much cheaper. For boarding I would recommend filling half way, the 750 are really for surfing or unless you have semi pro mad wake boarding skills...

If your only worried about boarding then maybe the 400 are your best bet, but I don't know your skill level.

Well let's just say I'm not gonna be a pro anytime soon, but I'm looking to progress into backrolls this summer. I saw
the package deal on wakemakers for the 400s, and I was thinking I could look on ebay and craigslist for some slightly
used 565s. But hell, if I can get the 750 lbs cheap for wakesurfing, then I might as well shoot for those and use for
wakeboarding as well.

Congrats on the purchase Living the Dream, we still have yet to fully break in the engine, yet I already love our Outback
V. I'm sure you will enjoy yours as well.

i have the stock 400s that the giii comes with, i can stack another 400 on top of those to get 800 on one side for surfing cant i???

I ordered 2 750's last week from wake makers and after the discount code I paid 289 for both delivered in under 7days. It's better to have 750 and not need it all then have 565 and want more. They will fit in your lockers just fine, easy plug and play switch from your factory bags.

Remember if you start to weight the rear that heavy get some weight up front, probably 60%front 40%rear.

Exactly, you can lay one of those 565's across the bow seats and fill her up with a Tsunami pump..then post pics!

Thanks guys, I think I'll try and go with the 750s then. Also thinking about picking up some 45 lb weights and put
them on the floor for some weight in the center. Unfortunately I have to wait until May to do so when I get out of

I have no doubt that the 750s will be more than enough for the wake, just was wondering with that much weight in the
stern, will the boat porpoise?

I never had it happen when on smooth water and at surf or wakeboard speed. The only time I encountered that was when I was trying to outrace a thunderstorm at 40+ and in 1-3 ft chop.

never had an inboard boat let alone one with a wake plate or trim tabs.

The trim tab is your friend! The NG OBV will porpoise in moderate to large chop at speed but it is easily controlled with application of the trim tab in all circumstances I have run into, which includes trying to out run or punch through thunder storms. Never ran mine with full 750s in the corners but have with full GIII stock ballast and seven people and never had any porpoising the trim tab couldn't eliminate. I use a 750 in the port corner for surfing.

Running with that much ballast you should have a great story to tell the first time you plow the bow through a roller. It's quite the surprise when the wave comes over the top of the windshield and into your face. Tip: Once the waves stop coming over the windshield and hitting you in the face, pull the center drain plug access hatch out of the floor, this allows all the water you are now sitting in to drain down into the bilge faster and get pumped out.

No need for the "sorry."

At one time, everybody on here "never had an inboard" and had questions. I was that guy just a few years ago. Don't be afraid to ask as folks here are happy to help. Good advice from Capt'n Kraig above. Drop the wake plate down to help drive the bow into the water and eliminate the porposing at speed. Work the throttle to power up & over the larger rollers or plow thru them if your Mother in Law is sitting in the bow. It's a good way to get her off the boat. :)
