Naw, not the one that replied to my CraigsList ad. Got him one for his wife's BMW.

He found it on ebay and it was North of Atlanta so I picked it up for him and the families are meeting for breakfast tomorrow in Macon, GA.

I made the guy a lowball offer and he took it. Drew was gracious enough to offer to go fetch it and deliver as far as Macon. That will save me about 4-5 hours of driving time. I am eternally grateful. Might even buy him an hour with Dusty's . . . (sorry, cant say it).

Nice find Kane, now i hope your not using the truck that needs thats trans to go pick up that trans. The irony of being broke down on the side of the rode because your trans blew, and sitting in the back is the new trans LOL.

Nope, the trans is for his wife's BMW and he met me at Cracker Barrel this morning (thanks again for breakfast!) in his bro's SUV.

That transmission was a BMW "lifetime" transmission that never needs fluids changed. It has no dipstick either. It lasted 77000 miles. It's really a GM transmission -- same one used in Caddy Catera and other cars. It takes Dexron III fluid. Of course it has to be changed regularly, starting every 30-40k. Idiots! Anyway, the donor car was wrecked but the transmission had been serviced regularly. It works great. Got off real cheap on that one thanks to Wolfeman.

In the meantime the Suburban needs a rear end. No boating till I get it back.

I put less than 1000 miles on my used E39 when I bought it before replacing the tranny :-( So much for my good deal... Local shop here in Mauldin, SC, that does a great job, and was $1800 for them to swap in a rebuilt one, in one day! Great place called Advance Transmission. My mom-in-law had one put in hers there too.

I didn't know until after I bought it, but my '99 5-series BMW transmission is actaully a GM France tranny...It was the CHEVETTE transmission with an overdrive conglomurated on the front of it...for real...On a car that in '99 cost nearly $50k!!! I couldn't believe it...

Oh yeah, I'm glad you found such a great deal on one!!! I searched all over when I got mine, and by the time I paid shipping it was going to be more expensive than having these guys do the whole job! I was also told I needed a couple of special tools to remove the tranny, but I'm not 100% sure of that...

Hogwash. The special tools are flex extensions to get to the top bolts. My guy did the swap for $450 including an oil change while it was in there. I paid $200 for the tranny and breakfast for Wolfeman and crew. Very happy with the result. I was looking at a new Chevy Cruze or Hyundai Elantra for the boss but she really likes her '99 beamer convertible. It was only $8k last fall so if my guy can work on it I'm going to let her keep it. BTW, it's the same GM France one.

Wow. You got a CRAZY good deal on that tranny!!! Congrats!

Mine's a touring (wagon) and my wife LOVES hers too, as do I since now that I've dropped it a little over an inch, replaced all the suspension, and added Bilstien Sports shocks and struts. Lol. Handles like it is on rails!!! We're at ~175k miles now, and I've got around $8k-$9k into it, including some nice 18" 2-piece BBS wheels ;) I've kicked aroudn the idea of selling it for something different, don't know what, but she freaks out anytime I mention it. Lol. It is white, completely tinted out, DEPO headlights, and a carbonfiber hood.

Well, that's going to look nice as soon as you get the hood painted. :)

I've thought about it... The only reason it has new headlight and hood is because i backed into it with my truck :( The cf hood was the same price as a steel hood and having it painted, and i dropped 40 pounds, so I went for it. The pics do it no justice, but it really does stand out. I was on the fence, and wanting to paint it, but you wouldn't believe the compliments i get on it. Surprised me... I figured a lot of young kids would like it, but just as many compliments come from guys our age :O
