I was looking through some pics and saw this and it looks to be a small amplifier for the 6 inboat speakers. To me this is a step down from the kicker our 2008 moomba had. Here's a link to what I believe is the amplifier.

This is a pic I found of the amp in a 21v.

What is the point? I'm sure the headunit would provide similar numbers, right?

Surely not...and if it is..surely that is not a part of the "audio upgrade" package or whatever it is....Wow.

They have been using that little amplifier in Sea Ray cruisers for a number of years where there is more speakers to drive than a 4-channel built-in HU amplifier can handle. Other than solving the multiple speaker load issue it is a worthless amplifier. With the 4-channel Kicker amplifier you can supplement it and build around it within reason. With the MA amplifier you will just have to replace it. And, the MA amplifier has no highpass filter and doesn't hold up well with a 2-ohm load.

It's better than running 10 speakers plus a sub off a 4 channel like mine came

So it sounds to me like size does matter.

That's what I'd get so I can scrap it for what I want :)
Better than ordering the upgrade which I'd scrap as well for better stuff IMO.

If that truely is the amplifier I'm pretty disappointed and I will have a new one to replace it before the boat even arrives just cant decide if I should go 6 channel or 4 channel. I like the idea of a six channel because each speaker has it's own channel but you can get much better deals on the 4 channel amps.

6 channel is very clean but I agree the 4 channel is much cheaper. I went the 4 channel route because of price. You can get right at the same power either way.

I believe there is some argument that you are able to push your bows a little harder than the cockpit (with a 4 channel bc the cockpit is wired together into 2 channels) to compensate for having less speakers up front but I doubt it makes a big difference either way.

You can't get the g6600 or m6600 new anymore but i guess this is it's replacement.

I'm gonna have a lot of work to do once the new boat comes in!

It you really wanted an M6600 they are around but yes they have been discountinued per JL's website. A google search found them on Amazon. The XD600/6 is the new replacement from what it looks like. There is a M600/6 which is the same but the marine version. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_39851_JL-Audio-M600-6.html

After owning a M6600 and recently picking up a XD700/5 (which is probably the same chassis as the XD600/6) I would definately go with the XD series, if I were doing it over again. The new class D is much more compact, thus easier to package. 17" in length vs 10"

Also, the little Marine Audio thing looks kinda dinky. I guess it may sound nice on the sale papers.

this is really no different than cars. some come with basic audio systems that work for a segment of the buyers, then you have the upgraded system which will work for another segment...

then you have the group that will upgrade anything and nothing is good enough.

I'd almost bet money that exile could plumb in a complete system from head to toe and there will be a group of buyers that will either add to it or rip it out and start over.

I think it's a guy thing :)
