picklefork or tri-hull??

so got into a conversation with the supreme rep at the boatshow and we started talking about the new bow sections.
I called it a picklefork, but he corrected me. a true picklefork boat has 2 running surfaces with an air trap in the middle, mostly used for racing.
what we are calling a picklefork is more true to a tri-hull, but he indicated that the market finds picklefork "fast", "new", "fun" and so on, while tri-hull brings up images of "big", "dated", and "70's"....
he seemed to think that it's all about marketing and that they really should be called a tri-hull...

I agreed with him.

I wouldnt label the current bOats as pickle forks either.. I would call them fugly.

I think that most responders to this poll with be picklefork haters. Some people like'em, some don't, some can afford them (Tige, MC, Malibu), some can't. I can go either way as far as boat styling, just depends on the lines of the boat. You can't call these new picklefork type wakeboats a tri-hull...that's just a stupid arguement. Just enjoy your traditional bow boat and stop all the hating. You bought your boat, let other people enjoy what they bought.

I think a pickle fork design is in-between a catamaran racing stlye boat and a tri hull. I could be wrong but the way the supreme rep described it is a catamaran.

The way I see it most (if not all) of the wakeboats are modified V hulls with a "pickle fork" bow. If they were calling them Pickle fork hulls that would be incorrect.

Not quite getting this. According to these hulls most all wakeboarding boats are V bottom .

My understanding of the tri hull design is its great for side stabilization compared to V bottom boats . They make good fishing boats where a good stable platform is preferred. The new pickle fork boats have the same lower hull as the point noise with the top front widened for a larger seating area. I heard that it started when MasterCraft cut the noise off a 23' boat and made a 21' with a pickle noise. I find them ugly from the outside but quite roomy from the inside. IMO having more people in the front interferes with driver visibility when under way but could be good for relaxing at a cove.
