Suggestions on where to purchase starter

I am 90% sure my starter is going bad. I will test it this spring to be sure. It seems like replacing the starter is pretty easy. Does anyone have any suggestions for locations to purchase a marine starter online?

Also.. I remember somone saying there is some switch that if you change the starter you ought to change. Any pointers on what that would be?

The Indmar number is S571006. The Arco number (aftermarket) is 57-30470.

I think I ordered the aftermarket from ATL Marine. That is for the 340 cat motor.

You can call ATL Marine and they will give you the part numbers and prices. Do a google search with those numbers and unless you find something way cheaper, I'd just order from ATL. That's what I did anyways.

Mine was pretty easy to access. It's an easy swap as long as you can access it easily.

Find an altenator/starter repair shop and have it rebuilt. Typically they'll give you a lifetime warranty and it will be quite cheeper than new. I payed $28 to have the one on my jeep rebuilt. I know its not a marine starter but if you have the marine starter to begin with you the guts are the same. Definatly the way to go. my.02

Having one rebuilt is also an option.

Maybe try discount inboard marine but I would try the rebuild thing too. Prices on starters/alternators are really inflated. I have had good luck with skidim and they are knowledgeable and will answer questions.

^^^^^^^ Of utmost importance. Marine starters are built differently to ensure no sparks which could ignite fumes

yup, having it rebuilt should be no more than 1/2 the price of a new or reman. Most places rebuild marine and non-marine applications.

Thanks for the input. Dumb question.. what type of place am I looking for to do this? The guy who came out to winterize the boat said to replace it. So.. it aint him :)
