View Full Version : Picklefork Poll

With all the talk about the Mojo, I was wondering what others opinions are on the best looking Picklefork. I know some love them and some hate them but was curious to see what the majority thought.

For me, I still haven't come all the away around to loving the picklefork. If I had to pick, though, hands down would be Tige. My second would be a large MC.

Here are some quick pics I pulled of the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Others might need to add some ... (included 2 pics of MC since the size can make a pretty big difference on looks)

Honestly, not to be a "homer," but I do like the Moomba version best from the profile as it looks more like a traditional boat. Some of the others are too extreme/goofy looking to me with the very definitive "points." I do did the Tige design, too.

IMO, Tige nailed it.

Agreed, I think the Mojo is a good compromise. The Malibu looks way too much like the water version of the bat mobile IMO.

Not taking away from the nice roomy bow of the Mojo but it's not in the category of a true picklefork design...it's just a round wide nose (no fork to it). It's more in the line of a picklespork. Tige RZ2 and RZ4 are sexy boats, mastercraft pickleforks look great and have creative innovation in bow storage and creature comforts (armrests, diamond stitch), and I've had only compliments from every Moomba owner who sat in the bow of my Axis. MB has a very pronounced picklefork design, however, I had to crunch my legs up sitting in the bow of an F21 and I'm only 6'00" so the MB F-21 has a short bow (too much fork, not enough cushion) but huge cabin. Malibu new design does look like Batman and has a very small cabin. My vote just for looks is a toss up for Tige for it's clean, sexy lines and then Axis for a more edgy, aggressive look (especially in black).

I guess I'm not a "true picklefork" purist. I hate them, always have, always will. Looks like they let batman in on the design team. Gimme the spork.

I'm too traditional to appreciate any of the designs, so did not vote. For me there is only the lines of a classic pointed bow.

12-13-2011, 01:12 PM
I voted for Axis solely on the look of it's hull and bow. I absolutely hate the windshield on it as well as a couple other items. But, if you disregard those and solely look at it's bow, I just really like the looks of it.

rdlangston13
12-13-2011, 01:54 PM
i dont think there is any clear definition of a pickle fork that disqualifies the mojo. It has the points just like every other pickle fork boat, they just are not as obnoxious. i think the MB design of the bow is hideous but my buddies F21 is very nice in every other aspect. you would never think that it runs about the same price as an LSV if you got in it, fit in finish is way better and just overall design and quality of the build makes me feel like my LSV is a geo metro. but the front end and the tower are both ugly imo.

Tiges are just super sexy boats, the mastercrafts look goo too but I will stick with Tige being my favorite.

Sorry Kyle but I don't feel as if your pictures that you posted really showed good angles of the bows of the different boats to help people for their opinions so i found some more that I think show it a little better.

Its all good rd. I picked mine bc I like sitting boats.

Also, I don't think it is just the girk that is important. The whole scheme and how the bow works with windshield and cabin play a big role. The while look is what makes me put the tige first. Bu and acids kinda look like they are falling forward. I just plain don't like mb looks. being a supra owner I hires it is just natural for me to like the boats with the nose dip.

Ill have to vote for tige, but will say that its not an entirely fair vote. I have not seen a mojo nor the bu boats in person. Pics can only go so far and having an opportunity to touchy feely a boat can make a big difference vs a pic.

I was never a fan of platform boats and majority of the pickle forks, to me, resembles platform boats. I personally did not like the design when I first saw one, but I'm sure the design has more of a function then just looks. I am still a fan of the v-hull and mostly likley always will be.

But.... I picked the Mojo not being bias because I'm a Moomba owner, but because it looks the least like a platform boat with a Manta-Ray front end.

Jet
12-14-2011, 02:45 PM
As a engineer, you have to love the PF's. It adds room, function and looks. Which makes your experince better. As a desinger, you also have to like it, it just looks meaner, sharper and more cool. It serves all your tastes and needs, who doesn't want more room? (yes the batmobile is cool) I could SO get ld in that boat with a cape on. lol. As a desinger..someone F'd up on the mojo, no more room, no more function and looks it looks pregnate. WHY THE HELL DO IT?? Also..Im pretty sure (??) the pickles are still a true v-hull from the water line on back. Correct? Jet

rdlangston13

Since when do Engineers design something with functionality in mind? And it looks like the bow on the mojo is just as big and open as all the other pickle forks

KG's Supra24

bzubke, i think the anniversary edition is one of the best looking boats on the water

sandm
12-14-2011, 04:13 PM
I think harms is on the right track. they are really more of a platform than a tri-hull. the hulls on all the pickleforks I have seen look just like their conventional siblings, just a wider platform on top for more backrest. I have yet to see a picklefork with a substantially wider floor in front such as the rear of the boat, just more backrest and seat surface in the front.

I really like the looks of some of them, but from a functionality standpoint, I really never have a crew big enough to justify the extra seat or 2 that they afford, and it would be interesting, especially at speed what the extra airflow drag is on the boat and the associated drop in mpg with those boats. probably minimal, but if you spend any time at all getting to the "good" water, there's a loss..

I know these are simply from the website & aren't CAD drawings, but take a look at the Mojo vs the LSV. Yes, I understand the Mojo is 1ft longer but look at how much deeper/taller the Mojo is and there is certainly more room in the bow, not just length, but also in width.

dusty2221
12-14-2011, 04:38 PM
I just can't get down with the mojo spork at all. That ^ pic, IMO, makes it even worse. The fork is so minimal, why even do it. I've got the mojo rated about the same with the Epic nose. It looks like they just A) Didn't know how to pull it off and be different enough or B) Ran out of time and said the hell with it, this will work." All the wasted space from the center bow seat to the nose is very unappealing to me.

I hope to be in the market for new in the next 4 to 5 years, and I hope like hell they don't go this route on the Supra's.

wolfeman131
12-14-2011, 05:02 PM
It'll be sooner than that after I send a super tsunami wave from my Mojo over your bow & send your ride to the bottom of the lake. But, not to worry, I will have enough room in the bow for you and the other ladies to hitch a ride back to the dock.

Spork you, Dusty!

I currently own a pickle boat and have ridden in an X-25. I previously owned an XLV as well. I can say this about the two pickle boats I've been in when it comes to riding in chop and/or white cap conditions...they are drier inside and ride smoother than my big o' XLV was with the traditional bow. The width of the pickle bow and I believe a deeper V in the centerline help IMO. I guess that's good for those who need to or don't mind braving 20-30+ winds in open water. This past year I didn't think twice about going out ine 35+mph winds open water in my pickle boat to get to the glass around the cliffs.

I'm not sure about the hype of the pickle fork as the tri-hull boat of the early 1970s had a similar design. I'm not sure it's characteristics or why the design faded. I think it was for stability.

bergermaister
12-15-2011, 10:37 AM
My old tri-hull would ride up over the top of the waves and make for a bumpy ride, v hulls tend to cut through them. Flatter the hull, the rougher the ride. I think the pickle is sort of a hybrid, v hull all the way up with just the wide nose.

I have to hold off on casting a vote until I see the others in person (including the Mojo), hopefully at the January boat show. I've always liked the MC fronts. Saw one MB last summer that looked retarded like it had rear-ended something and never got stretched back out.

funny thing is my buddies A20 when the water has faint 2 inch ripples feels like you are driving down a gravel road, you can feel every single ripple in your feet hitting the hull. my lsv is alot smoother through the ripples, never been in the a2o in rough water though considering rough water is virtually non existent where we ride

Ian,

You didn't happen to set up a surf wave, did you?

Nope, I don't really surf. I rode behind as part of a local charity Polar Bear Ski event. A kid from the dealer said the surf wave was retarded though, which I believe since the boat is huge, and they know I wouldn't buy a wake boat (dd ski all the way!)

Carpet does dampen some of that...we have the tatami snap out mat which is not like snap out carpet so no dampening or vibration absorption. I still like the tatami mat, only one of my boat owner friends can't stand snapout anything.

F21 is ugly in the front but if those were the actual choices...I doubt it. Just saying

I'll agree with rd on this...MB Sports has set a tough standard to follow for what you are getting for your dollar. Killer wakeboard wake, good surf wake, interior fit finish, interior cabin space, Zero Off standard, no decal graphics, and gravity ballast.

the only down side to that ballast system that i can think of is if you break down on the water with it full...i guess you can empty it once you are back on the trailer??

I've heard that you do not have to be moving fast at all to drain the ballast but I don't think you could get enough angle to totally drain it being towed. however, there is video with a loaded MB on it's trailer draining it's ballast to demonstrate how fast it does drain. I woudn't want to do that to my trailer.
