I am in a revitalized old town part of town so to speak. My building is surrounded by neighborhoods with houses as much as 100+ years old and a lot of restoring and renovating has taken place so it's always refreshing to take a walk and just take in the scenery. However, there are some total dumps right next to beautifully restored and authentic old houses. Kinda weird and I'm sure quite frustrating for the homeowners.

Also work from home on occasion - similar setup except dual 22" wide screens there.

You guys see the small spots on the lake? Those are all ducks. Prolly 1500 ducks there right now. Pretty nice view for an industrial site.

I work at the Ronlar Acres site of Intel in Hillsborrow Oregon.

Pic 1 is showing you all the construction as Intel is building its new Fab D1X as you might know in the news. Lower Center of picture is my building CUB3. My main job is to recieve all the chemicals used by the Fab in processing microchips, recieve all the water from the process also. Then we treat the chemical to make it environmentally safe, contain it to ship off, or in some cases we actually concentrate it to sell off to other companies.
The building the right with the Yellow is a new building housing a power distrubution system. The building the left has been removed completly. The large construction top center is the new Fab D1X.
The long building on the fare left of the picture is the main Fab in production D1D. Pretty much any Tank, or pipping you see is chemical based and my responcibility.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/9-30-2011020.jpg

In this picture is a side view. To keep your bearing on what your looking at look for the Yellow Building its the same one as the 1st picture on the right of my main building.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/9-30-2011030.jpg

This picture is a front view of the new Fab and a good picture of the BAC < Big Ass Criane> as they call it. This thing is undescribally huge Took about 6 weeks to build it on sight and its 1 of 5 and they claim its the largest mobile craine in the world. It cost 5M for Intel to rent it. They used it to pick up the steel structures that are right in front of it. Those are 1/2 the entire length of the fab building as you can see several installed on the roof. They are the supperting structucture for the roof of the fab.
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/9-30-2011016.jpg

This is a fare back arial shot of the campus. If you follow the outside road its 3.2 miles, i often walk this route at night when im bored lol.

well i live in katy, tx so its just west of houston. i drive to bootheville, la which is about 8 hours, then hop on a chopper for a 30-45 min flight. so about 8 1/2 hours one way not counting the time you sit and wait at the heliport

All ya'll northerners need to watch out coming south, or at least to Texas. This is a right to work state and unions are pretty much non existent down here. It is horrible, employers make their employees work 18 hour days and every one is on salary to prevent any overtime. The salaries are so low that it comes out to be less than minimum wage. If you show up late they take away your lunch break. No companies offer benefits, we are all on medicaid. Workers get abused down here in Texas so watch out if you move south.

viking
11-12-2011, 03:54 PM
Ha ha! No worries here. In fact - residents of each coast should not look to come out to the North-West either. Our boating season is only 2 weeks long. We have to use a horse and buggy to get anywhere. Outhouses for toilets. Have to cut and split your own wood for heat. Nearest neighbor is a days trip away as the crow flies. And it gets 30 below zero for 4 straight months in the winter. I sent this message on a scroll with a pigeon messenger to the silicon valley to get it uploaded to the world wide web for your reading.

In Texas it is so hot you have to wear extra clothes to provide insulation from the sun. The asphault roads boil. The roads are all dirt and deeply rutted by wooden wagon wheels. Every house is equipped with and outhouse. To find water on the lakes you have first go through 1 foot of crude oil that has polluted the top. The Mexicans raid the towns on a weekly basis and steal babies. And the wind blows 60 mph on calm days.
