Oil Filter loosen direction

Kind of an embarassing question. I have changed the oil before but now I cant remember which way to turn it to loosen before I winterize. (I know that with RH thread the lefty loosey righty tighty rule applies. But here I am changing the filter from above, lefty (counterclockwise) is the opposite if I were changing the oil from below such as I was changing the oil for a car. So if I am looking down at the oil filter which way do I spin it to loosen?

Lefty loosie! but from the top it will be backwards or right.
