View Full Version : Not getting full power??

I used to be able to tow multiple wake boarders/skiers at once and never had any issue of dragging them in the water. I had some work done on my exhaust recently and I just dragged a 180lb friend on a slalom ski for waayyy too long. I've always been used to people just popping out of the water like it's nothing without going full throttle... Any ideas on how I lost power? My ballasts are empty and I'm running premium gas. I was thinking maybe throttle linkage or perhaps a dirty air filter?

Does it feel any different when you're just driving and launching - not pulling anyone or loaded down? How's your prop looking - any bends or dings?
These boats typically just have a spark arrestor - a metal mesh screen over the carb/efi intake so there's not really an air filter to get clogged.

Dirty/clogged fuel filter maybe?

Prop looks fine. I did just notice I somehow broke off my third fin... Don't really know how I managed to do that! When I'm cruising normally it definitely doesn't accelerate as fast as it used to. It does get over 40mph without a problem though. It just takes longer to get there.

what do you mean by broke off my third fin?

My boat (2006 mobius LS) has 3 fins under it in front of the prop. 12379 I broke the one closest to the prop off somehow. Not too worried about that though. Really want to know why I'm not getting enough power to pull people up.

If you brok off a fin, I'd take a hard look at drive train... cant imagine how you broke one off and didnt hurt something else! Any vibrations?

You might also be getting a different "wash" to the prop that could affect hole shot. Adding weight up front or at the rear might change this but this one is kind of a long shot.

Thanks for the input. I'm going out tomorrow so I'll check all of this stuff out before I put it in the water. The engine/ride seems just as smooth as always.

WTF?? You broke a tracking fin off without noticing and you're not concerned about it being broken off?? Those fins don't just fall off when running over a dead trout...

Kind of like I just ran my boat up onto the rocks but I'm not too worried, I can fix it with some bondo and buffing... won't really turn to the right anymore, but that's okay I'll just go left...

dang... just dang... shake my head and another dang...

If you are taking on water into the bilge from damage to the drive train or where the tracking fin went missing that could be slowing you down some...

wow... kinda freaks me out... those aren't just glued on. My guess is sandbar or something... definately ran aground at some point! Shaft could be askew??? A trip to the dealer is in order!

How in the heck did the 3rd stabilizer break without damaging the front 2 stabilizers???? I would have to know what caused this....

What work did you have done on your exhaust???? A 2006 should not need exhaust work......did you over heat the engine and exhaust????? would like some info on this. As far as your 3rd fin....check your alignment, if its good and your prop is not dinged then that is a mystery......

LOL No doubt, If so then I can understand why the missing tracking fin is not a concern but acceleration is LOL

Hmmmm. Went in for exhaust work ... reduced acceleration ... third tracking fin missing but didn't remember hitting something ........ that sounds to me like the reason I NEVER take a car to a dealership ... I find a shop that I trust ... I do trust my Seneca, SC Moomba boat dealer but there are a few (non-Moomba) dealers in the Atlanta area that I would not trust as far as I could throw their building - the worst has the initials BA - that one will charge you to distroy your engine - then charge you to tell you what happened - and then charge you a bundle to fix what they distroyed - ended up selling the boat for the amount of the tax credit I would have gotten by donating it.

I go to Clemson, so maybe I'll take the boat over to JC in Seneca and see what they say.
