I am looking into trading-in my 2008 Moomba Outback V with 350hrs towards a 2012 Axis A-20.

You can read the specs of my boat in my signature.

My local Axis dealer offered me $24,000 but then I see a different local dealer selling a 2007 OBV for $38,900.

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Check NADA in your area as I had it at $31-38K without the trailer. The dealer was well off the mark on this one but educating them is important. It is a tough time of year to be trading but it is also difficult to sell new boats without a deep discount. Keep working him and try to get another dealer to get into the mix so you can barter easier.

Well I do have a trailer.

There is a 2008 Outback DD on onlyinboards.com for $33,500.

24 is too low, 33 on the 08 DD is too high. Without any research I would have guessed very high 20s on trade and low 30s selling privately. Just one man's guess though.

Local dealer here said they pay NADA on a trade. This was a skiers choice dealer.

Sounds low to me too - I think when I was looking at trading in at the beginning of spring we were at $24,500 on my Direct Drive Outback (at the time ~300 hours).

Keep in mind that on a trade in, the dealer will always lowball. They have to to make the profit worth their while. Also, the published asking price will always be higher than what they will take for it. Remember, there is always haggling that happens on both ends, so they are trying to guarantee maximum profit on their part.

38,900 for a 2007 OBV is waaaaayyyyy overpriced. i did not pay for that on Mine new in 2007.

price should be between 27 and 30k, don't forget you get sales tax credit on a trade vs outright sale.

In NY is 8%

Keep in mind that boat prices are much higher in Canada.

I paid $50k for my boat when it was new in 2008.

are those USD or CDN dollars the dealer is quoting?

I still think 50% off after 3 years is a big low ball.

If you live in a state with no state income tax like Washington, you can write the sales tax off on the Federal taxes if you itemize and if they keep the provision in the tax code.

They are quoting me in CAD currency.

There is not a big difference between USD and CAD currencies right now anyways but boats are selling for much less in the US when compared to Canada.

I think it's too low but have to tell you that 2 yrs ago at the boat show my dealer said my 2008 OBV trade in value was $26,000.

deafgoose the price they gave you seams about right for this time of year (to low for me )in the spring you would get more for the boat. You should have no problem selling for 35'000 to 40'000 depending on how fast you want to get rid of it .they offered me 19'000 for mine at the boat show last spring I was told it was a good price but found it insulting .

deafgoose

I am not insulted because business is not personal. Their job is to offer the least amount possible to make the most profit.

I am going to have it acid washed and then take pictures before it goes in storage, then post the boat up for sale in the spring.

I can still save on taxes if I bring the buyer to the dealership. :)

NADA with all your Equipment (Including Trailer and Tower) is $30,550 Low Retail and $34,910 Avg. Retail. Someone on Here Just advertised one for $34,000 but I bet ended up selling at $32,000. I can't Convert to Canadian!

When you get a chance to take some pictures let me know. I am shopping for a V drive outback and we would not have to convert currencies as I am already in Canada.

As much as it hurts me to say ... you will probably get more for it up here than I am willing to pay going to the US to buy my boat.

Boats like yours are being listed at $35,000 ish in Calgary.

Cars and boats are much more expensive here even though our currency is on PAR with the US dollar.

I dont think anyone in the US is crazy enough to pay 50k for an outback v but we dont have a choice.

You'll pay that now if you want a new Outback V. At least that is what the local dealer quoted me over the phone.

That's another thing. Boat prices are on the rise BIG TIME and yet my boat is depreciating at an alarming rate?

The guy that parks his 2011 Axis A-20 right next to my boat paid 48K last year. The same boat for 2012 is roughly $5,000 more. WTF?

deafgoose
09-08-2011, 11:53 AM
I put some pressure on my local dealer and squeezed out a few extra bucks for my trade-in value.

They originally offered me $24,000 and now they are at $28,500. If I do trade it in, I save $3,705 in taxes so the trade-in is actually worth $32,205.

With everything said and done, its gonna cost me $15,000 to get into a 2012 Axis A-20 with over $6,000 in options.

With all the upgrades I have put in my boat and how clean it is, I wouldn't let it go for any less than 34k. And up here I can get that for it easy.

May even sell it this weekend who knows......

If boats are anything like cars, mods may not add value.

why would you not dirve to the states and buy one here, pay the tarriff or whatever, then sell your boat in Canada. Make the Arbitrage.

I could certainly save money doing that but it would be allot of trouble. I dont even have a truck.

That is exactly what I'll be doing. Already have a guy up Island who offered me 34K and I still haven't made up mind if I want to sell it or not. Probably would have to cough up another 20K to get what I want and not sure it's worth it.

A local Tige dealer just offered me 34k on trade-in today but I had no idea how expensive those boats were.

The Tige R20 is starts at $52,000 CAD. I was more interested in the RZR 20ft but the base price on that model is $60,000 CAD.

I wonder if there is more "mark-up" on Tige boats and that is why they can afford to offer me top dollar for my trade-in.

wolfeman131

That would be my guess.

On cars, boats, ATV's, etc. I normally don't mention my trade until I've negotiated the price I want in the new one. That way you only have to deal with one variable at a time.

I was just under the impression the RZR was in the same price range.

It also seems MB Sports is out of the range also. The only boats in my range is the Axis.

I know this is way off topic! I have a 2007 OBV and am in the market for a new cover. I want one I can trailer with. I like the looks of the cover you have. Mind sharing where you found it and cost?

Thanks! -Jeff

Got it from my local Moomba dealer for 800$ CAD.

Search the classified section. I am pretty sure a member here was selling one for $275.

A friend of mine got quoted 62k canadian for a new Mojo today. Seems a bit high but exactly inline with the price of a new A22 which are also considered a price point boat. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see what the wake is like on the Mojo. Could get a good share of the market. One company to keep your eyes on though is MB. They are gaining a decent following.

The new Mojo should be in a local Canadian dealership very soon. Hopefully you will compare this boat and its features and the amount of trade a moomba dealer will give you for your OBV in your analysis. Production starts in early October.
