Don't get me started. I am completely worthless at work this week. I mean that. WORTHLESS. I am having to ask for apologies bc of my random outbursts about the game this Saturday but probably more annoying to the non football fans is the random barking at non believers.

Played with it for a few minutes then tucked the boat away to get ready to head out to DK Royal stadium to watch The 'Horns fry some rice owls. Well, in general I wish pollsters would actually pay attention so that we can have good match ups in the BCS games. First, just because the Irish are on TV every Sat, doesn't mean they are a good team, or that they have a good coach, or that they should get ranked, or that they SHOULD be on TV every week. Yes, I went to USF and I was happy, but no I don't think USF should be ranked #whatever yet.

Second, no matter who wins the PAC-10 (or whatever number is turns out to be), doesn't mean they should be ranked, especially higher than the 4thor 5th best SEC team. How many times does Oregon need to be destroyed on national TV before people understand that SEC football is for real and PAC-10 is just not as good.

Lastly, why do they continue to make Boise State second class? EVERY neutral field big game, they have won. UGA, OU, etc. This school is for real. Yeah, they lost one game, to a ranked team last year. Probably still a better team than Oregon (last year and this year).

I thought there were some very good match ups and it's great to have college football back.

being from Pittsburgh, it was typical to not give a hoot about college football.

Not even sure if there was a team.

If there was, nobody cared.

We have the Steelers.

Funny how it goes in the southern states - everybody cares about college football, but a very small percentage of those fans have any chance of being admitted to their favorite college.

Funny how it goes in the southern states - everybody cares about college football, but a very small percentage of those fans have any chance of being admitted to their favorite college.

Ed - We, too, have that problem in the North. The leading public school here in Illinois is the University of Illinois. Number of applicants for a recent freshman class was more than 23,000 kids, of which 16,000 were admitted to the university. In the group of those not admitted are literally hundreds of Illinois residents with GPAs well above 3.0 and high class rank. These kids end up at Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, because the people who run U of I instead accept applicants from all 50 states and foreign countries. Okay, so a family pays a lifetime of state taxes that underwrite the cost of operating U of I only to get no benefit when their kid, who has worked hard all throughout high school, comes of age to apply to college. Makes no sense. - Stuart

im not going to blow alot of smoke, with 18 starting freshman i highly doubt we will be that competitive in conference play this year. we have a very very young team but they are talented and as they get bigger and gain experience we should be pretty good. may take 2 or 3 years though. still trying to rebuild after a controversial coaching swap. i just dont want to loose to baylor. that is all i ask hahaahahhaa

Yeah but that was early in the season before the refs realized no matter how many bad calls they made in UTs favor, they were not going to be able to hide their suckage. Did yall watch that game against UT??? BS calls all day. I know I know yall are thinking that I am just a sour fan but when OU threatens to leave the conference if Beebe is not fired because they are fed up with UT getting special treatment then there has to be legitimateness to it. I would post a link to the taunting BS call but I cannot get on youtube right now. that call was one of many bad ones that game but that one sealed the deal for a UT win.

Hook 'Em Horns!

1) Texas Tech clings to that victory over Texas a few years back because that was probably their biggest win in the programs existance.

2) Texas has surprised me so far this year and I really like the play of Case McCoy. If he is anything like his brother Colt, the Longhorns have a bright future.

3) I sure am glad Greg Davis is gone and not calling the plays for Texas anymore. We now have an exciting offense to watch.

4) It's 8:07am and OU still sucks.

5) I think Alabama is overrated to be honest. They have a good defense and good running backs but I don't think their QB is anything special and won't hold up in pressure games. They will have 1 or 2 losses this year. (in my opinion)

6) LSU looks pretty good but I'm still not sold on them yet.

7) OU looks tough also but I have a feeling they will get knocked off by OSU.

No matter what my opinions are, I am just glad college football is back!!

rdlangston13
09-28-2011, 05:01 PM

Today's issue of the Wall Street Journal, back page of the Friday Journal section, has an interesting sports piece. It's how LSU's fear of Oregon's relentless, rapid pace of play has pushed LSU to develop a more efficient defense with lighter, quicker players who won't break down physically as the game wears on. I'm not much of a football follower, but even to me it makes sense. The link is below. Enjoy.

I am a Tech fan but my girl went to OU and I am a fan of anyone who beats UT pretty much, except SEC schools. E4 - You make me laugh. Of all guys on the forum, I'm probably the least connected to college football and certainly the most recent newcommer to Alabama. My son is just a freshman. On top of that, I never followed team sports - pro or collegiate. My wife, on the other hand, played football and volleyball in college and is a die hard Cubs and Bears fan. She is thrilled to finally be connected to a team with a winning track record. The joy she gets from the association is tangible. It's like a date to eat pizza and watch every game together (TV or web). We even are watching other college games. I bought a 3 x 5 flag that flies in front of our house on game day. It gets stares from snobs in our community who take a dim view of the South. Too bad for them. Anyway, you can bet that we will be glued to the TV on November 5 and celebrating throughout the game as Bama pounds LSU. Roll Tide! - Deerfield

JMB - Was in West Virginia over the weekend. Met a fellow who played youth and high school football against Nick Saban. Knew lots about local history and showed me around. Nice guy. As I understand it, Saban's dad ran a local gas station but had a real passion for the game of football and coaching. So about 40 years ago he and a bunch of dads got together and put up this football field, located near a mining town, for their boys. Building in the third picture is the high school Nick Saban attended. Thought you might appreciate these pictures. - Stuart RTR

Good thing you didn't bet any OK St fans.

Wonder if the Cowboys will score 100 on TT today.

I would happily trade that OU win for wins for the last three weeks. does that make sense?

Deerfield, I assume you will be rooting for LSU over AR?

I will!

I like Les Miles. He's nuttier than squirrel sh!t.

I think Bobby Petrino is a jerk for the way he left Louisville & Atlanta. I like to see him lose.

Yes. Guy here at work who knows far more about college football than me, said that the only route for Alabama to get to the national championship game this season is through LSU remaining #1 by retaining its undefeated record. So, gotta hope LSU defeats Arkansas Friday night. If by some miracle it loses to Arkansas, LSU then gives up its #1 spot to Arkansas and drops in the standings, pushing Bama too far down to get to the Superdome.

I wouldn't go as far as calling a LSU loss on friday a miracle.

You are right, If LSU beats AR that forces LSU to go play GA in the SEC championship and Bama likely gets a free ride right into the Championship. If we beat LSU then its up in the air, i think, on who goes to the SEC championship (it won't be us, either yall or lsu).

Of course, this is all assuming Auburn doesn't pull off the upset. ;)

Oh my, KG! The Hogs got roasted. And was ole' Bobby P really crying like a little school girl because the Mad Hatter kicked the field goal? Maybe that sideline reporter should have asked if he was the "fragile" one?

I'm looking for the Dawgs to wreck Tech and my boys from The Tattoo U to sneak past _ichigan for the 8th consecutive time before we move into the Urban revival. Go Bucks!

Why do some college teams play a thirteen-game regular season schedule?

Looking through the rankings, LSU and Virginia Tech are two teams playing thirteen games during regular season. Then I see Alabama and Arkansas playing a twelve-game schedule.

As a head coach, i would want my guys playing the exact same number of games as their opponents or potential opponents. That one extra game could injure a player or leave a tired team at a disadvantage.

Checked the Internet but found no explanation.

Reason for the mismatched number of regular season games?

nobody I've heard is giving the Dawgs a snowballs chance this saturday, I am not going to set myself up for a crow eating competition, but the Dawgs are playing tough right now as long as Richt (whom I love) doesnt get in the way. what a change in the big picture that would be as it doesnt seem to be getting consideration.

its 10:17 in North Dakota and the Gators still suck

GO DAWGS!!!!

Whoops, you mis-quoted Bobby P. I think you meant, "Whaa, whaa, whaa"

What a jack-leg! Miles should've punched him in the mouth.

Dawgs are definately going to have a tough time this weekend, but so would 1/2 the teams in the NFL if they played LSU.

They did what they could with the mess Urban left us...however we had a good run while he was here. He just didn't do enough to keep it going once he threw the towel in which was when he "stepped down" "temporarily" back in '09. When he came back he was never REALLY "back". The future will be interesting for both programs...Hopefully we can watch a few games together...

I'm going to have to quit bashing AL as much. My daughter got accepted there but really wasn't thinking too much about going out of state. Then they stepped up and offerered her $16k/ yr. in scholarship coin. Roll tide!

Kaneboats - That is a fantastic offer! Will be hard to turn that down. Keep in mind that jmb and his wife live in Tuscaloosa and probably would love to have her as a guest anytime she needs a board fix and they are out on the water. I told Lewis about the possibility that she will attend Alabama and he is very pleased for her. Congratulations! - Deerfield
