I like the new tower but were there problems with the V2 tower that caused them to scrap it after just one year?

That's the new standard tower - you can still get the V2 as an option.

Nice looking boats but looking at the second black Moomba was giving me a headach. Someone needs to hold the camera steady LOL

It is a ploy to get you to go look at it in person. Once they have you in the boat room they have you trapped and the next thing you know you are writing a check for the deposit on a new Moomba.

So does this mean that Moomba is going to have the Malibu towers from now on?

I love the progressive tower and don't understand why Moomba wouldn't use it as an option.

I like the fact the bimini is up and out of the way now !
looks very good with that tower

the new tower was necessary to stay progressive the old 1 5/8 outback and outback v tower was meh... and if I got a new boat I would have ordered without a tower and went aftermarket but now I wont have to :D

As someone who only barefoots and slalom ski's I'm really only interested in the Outback DD. I like the look of the boat but agree with JPage - I hate the look of that tower. My boat does have a tower because that's how it was purchased. If I could order a new boat I'd get one without a tower and purchase a skylon extension for my kids when they want to kneeboard or play on their wakeboard. That's just my opinion but then again I'm biased to 3 event boats.

Without the Bimini up the standard tower looks AWFUL....with it up it doesn't look as bad but it doesn't look good....IMO. I, too, liked the previous towers and probably wouldn't buy a new model with this tower...it would force me to look into the more expensive V2 option (but I'm not feeling that one too much either). Maybe that is the idea...hmmm...

c.rix
08-25-2011, 04:53 PM
to get the v2 you have to buy a lsv or xlv though

I like the new tower a lot but I have seen it in person a few times now and I think its better in person than on paper

Yeah the new tower looks a little out of place on the Outback, and doesn't look like it would take too much to interfere with the rope. I've got a bit of DD envy and am entertaining the idea of switching to one for better skiing, but if I did and it was an Outback I'm not sure if I'd want that tower.

I'm not too keen on it either, especially the solid one...

The Outback DD will have the old tower offered as an option to minimize any interference that might exist for a slalom skier. Just FYI

I think the V2 option is great, that tower looks hella sexy on these boats! The other tower doesn't loo nearly as good as the V2 but it is not that bad. The main thing I don't like about either tower is you can't put a Z5 on them to my knowledge. I love me some Z5!

Any word on when final production of the MoJo will be completed and deliveries to dealers will begin? I'm very interested on what the final product will look like

October for first production with deliveries in November. Still a few mods to be made to what we've seen so far is what I've read.

I haven't seen one in person, but how do you hook the rope up to the touwer with these new bimini's? Is there a velcro 'hatch' that you have to remove or something?

wolfeman131
08-29-2011, 07:18 PM
Malibu's have a zipper in the bimini canvas that allows you to reach thru and access the tow point. The rope goes over then goes over the bimini.

Pretty sure that the V2 is an option on the Mojo just like the LSV and XLV.

going back through the pics I noticed that the mojo has a different seat almost the same as my 07 outback v that kinda holds the driver unlike the cheap flat back seat that the newer generation moomba's have

that alone is a huge selling point I HATE THE OTHER 12' seats I mean I have to sit in it all day it must be comfy or its a deal breaker

Back to the outback and the new Oz tower, I've kind of come around from a looks perspective. I like being able to see the lines of the windshield and the sleeker look (to the point where I am really digging outbacks or other ski boats without a tower at all).

Anyway, I found some better pics on a dealer site, and comparing that to a random outback youtube video, it seems like you might run into issues as early as 22 off, maybe 28.

Here's a rear pic showing the mount, which is mounted just before the change in vinyl color, but slopes forward a bit.

12317

Here's 22 off:

12316

Here's 28 off:

12314

In both of those the rope is over that section of vinyl. It's possible the forward slope of the tower plus the rope's height might mean it doesn't interfere or only brushes up against it, but seems a little too close if you had any aspirations of moving down the line. While just window shopping I saw some threads about Malibu's Response LXi with the Illusion tower, and they must have had it mounted a bit more forward because the comments were that it didn't become a problem until 35 off (maybe 32 for some).

I know Rick said the Rad-a-cage would be an option if you didn't want rope interference, but just seems odd that it'd be mounted such that it could interfere that early.

never thought of that until you mentioned it but I can see now where it absolutely would be in the way.
Personally I don't like the looks of that tower on the outback anyhow. Looks out of place. Don't mind it so much on the LSV though.

How the hell does the bimini work mounted to the BACK of the new tower? Doesn't seem like it would benefit the driver at all.....weird!

Probably the same way Malibu did with the swept forward towers, pull it forward then insert rods from the front of the bimini into the top front tower bar. Then pull the back out and secure to tower. Makes for a very small shade patch as it sits so high up.

Does anyone know what the "surf platform" option is on the 2012's? From what I can tell, its an option on the '12 LSV and other models. I get the general idea, but I haven't been able to find either a description or a picture. Is it the same platform as what's on the Mojo?

Exactly what I'm planning...I would think it is since the LSV hull isn't changing, or at least that's my understanding.

I asked my dealer about this a couple of weeks ago and they told me that sc has been testing this platform on a lot of there older boats and it would work on my 07 xlv. Price was $800.

wolfeman131

Price was $800.

That seems a little pricey as it's only a $250 option/upgrade when you use the "price your Mojo" under the 2012 preview. I wouldn't think the standard platform would cost $550, but I could be wrong.

Drew by time you put the seadeck on it, all the materials, shipping, and margin I could easily see $800

I'd be interested to know how much it really affects the surf wave, especially for a leisure surfer. I don't understand wanting the platform smaller, hell I want mine bigger.

I really didn't dig the shape... looks funny to me... a smooth curve would have looked way better IMO. Of course, I am saying this without actually ever surfed. I am hoping my original platform will work just fine.

I'd pay $800, lord knows it would otherwise get wasted on something else :). The problem I have with mine is that it cuts into the wave and spits water at the rider and causes white wash to ride up the wave. The opposite side is sometimes cutting into the wake as well depending on how we have it weighted and our speed, which spits up white wash over the spine onto the surf wave. Neither of these are big issues, but if I can clean it up I probably will since our primary activity is surfing.

For the 2012 Outback, I do like the looks of the new tower a lot but, as others have said, the rope interference would be a real problem for me on a slalom. And, as PMomba says, the boat would have a very good sleek look without the tower. Given the location, if I were in the market for a new one I would probably elect to go without the tower. Not much of a loss for me.

I asked someone better at image editing than I am to change the red on the stock shot to the blue from a real picture of a 2012, celestial I think. Then I used my crummy ms paint skills to remove the tower. This is the result.

12514

I'm sure it's off a little from what it would really look like, but if the stars aligned and I decided to order new I think that's what I'd want. The way we use the boat I can get away without a tower for a while and leave options open. You can always add something later. There are some good looking aftermarkets, or if they redesign the new tower to address rope issues you could always retrofit.

I emailed Rick Tinker to see if i can trade in my brand new platform for the new one. I said id be willing to pay the difference so we will see what happens. Other wise maybe ill try to sell it LOL. Its brand new never mounted in the wrapping still lol. Even has a new pad not installed yet. I got it because my factory one split at the braces. Still using it though lol.
