I still do not see anyone wake surfing on the lake I go to. I am on Lake Tuscaloosa. How would I find out if it has been outlawed or something? I find this most interesting! They were doing it last year and nothing this year. As popular as it is, there is nothing. Any thoughts???

i've never seen anybody do it on Lake Keowee or Lake Jocassee here in SC.... I was doing it a coulple weeks ago at the lake though and some passer-by was telling me to throw the rope, so he obviously knew what we were doing, but he's the first. I usually just get really odd looks and stares...

Yeah, get out there and get to it! Worst thing that might happen would be a ticket, right?

If some state was going to outlaw surfing it would probably be CA. They keep trying to vote in some laws that make everyone on board wear a life jacket anytime the boat is underway... Glad they have not done it yet. When we used to go out to the Delta we saw people surfing all the time and we were still wakeboarding only then, now we go closer to our house and rarely see anybody surfing. We are the only ones doing it, hell that is about all we do now. We do get a lot of strange looks, and some one always stop to ask us if our boat is sinking and we need some help. LOL! I always respond with "no we are OK, just have our ballast set up for surfing". This usually prompts a puzzled look from them and on more than one occasion they ask "whats ballast".

08LSV You are right on that one.

I would think if they outlaw it they would have put up signs. If they did not put up a sign i would just tell the cop "Sorry we did not know. You did not stop us last year and I did not see a notice at the boat ramp about it" Depending on the cop you will get a warring or ticket. Be nice and make sure you have life vest out well you do it that way he is like they are being safe so a warring will do.

We always try to be nice and make sure our gear is always correct and in working order. Makes the safety checks go seamlessly. I did get dinged for sitting on the sun deck (similar to the guy in Ed's doc video) while I was teaching my 9 year old niece how to surf. No ticket just kept my mouth shut and took the lashing.

If there are restrictions on your lake, they should be posted at the public launch. We do on ours (a river) and it's clearly posted at the launch.

Even here in Central Florida, where one can boat all year round, the only time I see anyone wakesurfing is behind my boat.

It truly is not as poplular as you would think on the Eastern part of the U.S. - at least where I live it is not.

Here, waterskiing and wakeboarding are king.

Few weeks back the Sherriff's marine patrol "pulled my boat over" while I was surfing to tell me how cool they thought it was. They were young guys and hadn't seen anyone wakesurf previous to that.

I am on Lake Tuscaloosa.

Jack - Yesterday afternoon I saw Lake Tuscaloosa. Mrs. D and I took a drive on Rice Mine Road after dropping Lewis at the dorm. Nice lake, but the ramp was closed off with yellow tape. A sign stated it had been closed since late July but gave no reason. Everything looked okay to me. Did not take the time to search out the other ramp. Hoping to make another road trip during game season. Would love to try surfing with you. Two beginners. Would be fun. - Stuart

Its the same up in Canada in my area....at least on our lake. I have only seen 1 other boat with a wakesurfer but they were only out once and I think it was their first time, no real hardcore guys who go out frequently.

I don't know why that ramp is closed. I don't usually use that one. It is kind of short. There is a better on not too far away that I use. I would love to learn how to surf but don't have a board. I need to buy one. Drew can hook me up with a guy who sells them. I hate to say it but I have more problems going on. My mom has dimentia and has taken a turn for the worse and is not expected to live much longer. She is in Spokane, Washington so we may have to leave on short notice. I can't seem to catch a break. My doctors appt is a week from today and I was hoping to be cleared, maybe, for skiing and wakeboarding. I may not make this appt either.

Jack, you need a dang vacation. Wish there was more we could do to help. Be strong. Things will get better. You remain in our prayers.

A Bama game? ugh...... Too many plaid fedoras for my taste.

We could always drag on down to Sinclair after a DAWGS game. Heard you may know someone with a place down there!
