View Full Version : Noob Question: Why Wake Plate Down at All?

OK.. Noob Question. I thought the point of the wake plate down was to squash the wake for skiing. Many folks have said they surf with the plate down. That seems counter intuitive to me.. a complete noob. Is my understanding of the wake plate incorrect. I am running a 2003 LSV with 1100 in the center and 400 in the back.

Nope, you are correct. Plate down to raise the rear and mellow the wake. Plate up to drop the rear and increase the wake. You can move/adjust the plate when surfing to change shape & length. Have fun while learning!

Drew nailed it.

You can also use the plate in the down position to help get on plane faster and then move it up for board sports

you can fit an 1100 in the ski locker of a 03 lsv?

Probably, but I don't know if you would get it completely full as my 750 doesn't leave much space left

Drew, that states center locker not rear.

Oh, my mistake. Guess I didn't read that close enough. I didn't think what came stock was that large and my center ski locker is jammed with what's in there.

mine too. its a 400lb stock in the center and mine pops the ski locker door.

The 1100 in the center pops open the ski locker.

The 1100 in the center pops open the ski locker.

did you put the 1100 in or did it come that way from the previous owner.

Not to be a wise guy but i would check the numbers on the bag, the center locker comes with a 400 lb bag. the 1100 is 19x19x88.

Here is a thread to help calculate

So.. I did check.. the center bag is a 19x19x88. I think it is the gravity games one (The boat is the LSV Gravity Games edition). But, the ones in the locker are only 300lbs (16x16x30). I need to (1) Go change my sig and (2) Go shopping for more weight.

Does this mean we can fit an 1100 in the centre locker Joe???????

no way my center locker would fit a 1100. i cant even fill the 400 100%

Man I wouldn't think that was possible, I can barely fill the 400 all the way and when I do I can't close the locker door. I even measured the space to see if I could go bigger/longer and it is only a few inches longer than the 400 bag that's in there. I do have 1100's in the V-drive lockers and can fill them to about 1050 if I still want to close the door and not put to much pressure on the bag.

OK. So I am the first to admit it if I'm wrong, I just looked up the 1100 sac on wakemakers.com and they quote it fitting specifically Supra and Moomba boats in the center locker.... I think I may need to remeasure. May have to even invest in one, but they are a little pricey at $329.00.

my boat has 3 bags that i believe are 400 lbs a piece. they are all long and kind of skinny and they are all three the exact same size. when in the ski locker one will fill the entire thing to where the locked door will not close completely and when in the vdrive compartments the go from the back of the boat up under the rear side seat cushions. if they are in fact 400 lbs then there is no WAY i can fit an 1100 in my ski locker. the XLV ski locker is alot larger due to the play pen seating design so that makes sense. but no an LSV with the walk thru bow

thats what I was thinking the stock 400 will pop my walk thru door open if I fill it till it vents and they are only 10" tall if I remember correctly

I know my obv I could possibly gain from the 88" length but not the height cause it ain't gonna fit

Guys guys just because it says Moomba and Supra doesnt mean it fits all Moomba and Supra. Its designed for those who have the XLV style boat. These boats have play pens and when you open the senter seat where the cooler would go its cavernous in there. I mean a couple 5 year olds can hide in there its stupid huge. These sacs are not designed for the LSV and OBV at all. Supra has the 21V and up with Play Pens and these will fit in those but if you dont have a the huge deep ski locker like the play pen style Bows have this bag wont fit.

Mike,

I think we're all hung up on the OP's first post as this hull is the same as the 06-08 OBV and we'd like to get some more weight in there if that bag will fit as most of us are under the impression that we have the stock, 400lb bag and it fills that compartment completely.

I have a note off to wakemakers to see if I can get some clarification.

Thanks for getting some clarification Drew. It does say on product description that you would gain about 500lbs over stock... So I take that to mean that even though it is an 1100lb sac you could only fill it to about 900lbs. I think Mikes post makes since that the XLV with playpen would offer more room to fill it but I wonder how much advantage LSV/OBV owners could gain in weight just from the extra length? Not sure it would offset the cost though.

If the locker was able to take the 19 inch wide and 88 long then fill it 10 inches like stock does you would gain ~ 200 lbs over stock

True. But then your paying about a $1.64 per pound to add that over the stock bag. I mean it would definitely be a gain, but not sure if it would be worth the expense at $329.00 for the new bag just to gain 200lbs. That is almost the cost of one new board rack. LOL!

I need the racks too! I use my 250 on the walk way for a filler cushion so I will keep doing that and save monies

I'm late to this thread but as has been said, there is no way the 19x19x88 sac will fit the front locker of an 06+ LSV. I have measured the locker and it's about 10" tall and 24" wide, and starts to taper towards the end of the bag.

About the most efficient way to get more weight in there is to get the 10x26x62" bag that is a stock fat sac size and holds 580 lbs full. You should be able to get about 10x24x62" of water in there which calculates out to about 540 lbs. This sac sells for $170 but would have been $128 with the recent 25% off group buy. I thought about it but decided it wasn't worth it for the extra 140 lbs.

Why not leave the stock bag in ski locker and do a bow ballast, i have one and it really improves the wake for all wakesports

For me, it's simple - I don't want/need more front ballast, either for surfing or wakeboarding, bad enough to be willing to lose storage or seating space up front. Three bags is enough.

We have the IBS bag that fits under the front seats in the bow and it is great for keeping the nose ride height under control. I will say that when increasing the number of bags you definitely lose some storage space. However this made us really consider what B%$ S*#$ we leave in our boat on a regular basis. After going through it all we pulled out a ton of stuff that we have never used or really don't need anyway. I think it has made us use the space more efficiently than ever.

Where do you keep the extra plates, charcoal, lawn chairs, umbrellas, forks, bumpers, 2 spare wakeboard ropes, snap on covers, and Aunt Tutie's ashes?

They really should make the LSV with the option of a playpen. 1100 pounds is perfect for the bow of the lsv with the stock 400 bags in the back.

I dont think i could put an IBS in my boat. I have a anchor stored up there along with 4 bumpers (two on each side) and two life jackets (1 on each side). All of that is used pretty regularly (by used I mean when the warden pulls us over we can count the two jackets).

LOL! We can actually still get most of that stuff in there... I'm telling you when you are forced to be creative with storage space you really can. We did go ahead dump Aunt Tutie's ashes out in the lake, been meaning to do that for a while but didn't want to take time away from surfing for the ceremony....

We had our Anchor and Bumpers up there to before the bow sac. We moved our Anchor and Bumpers to the seat behind the drivers. There is a small space there that goes forward under the drivers seat and our anchor fits there perfectly. I will post a pic when I get a chance.

Sorry BK I think we sorta stole this thread....

The reference to Aunt Tutie's ashes comes from the show "Married With Children". In my favorite episode [4th season "Hot Off the Grill"] -- Al Bundy would get out last year's ashes as part of a ritual for the Labor Day cookout. Somebody dumped the old ashes so the kids went looking for some ashes to replace them so Al wouldn't know. The neighbor Marcy came over crying "Aunt Tutie is missing! (from the fireplace mantel) Of course this was right when all of them were biting into their burgers.

Anyway, I refer to "Aunt Tutie" or "Aunt Tutie's ashes" all the time. Sometimes I get a familiar look from people but they can't quite place the reference.
