Twice in the last three years, I have ingested something in my cooling line that has caused my engine to overheat. We have some swampy sections of lakes here so its hard to avoid sucking up something slimy. In Madison at the Mastercraft Dealer (there are no Moomba dealers nearby) I stopped by to see if they offer a strainer as an option. They had a couple of boats with a strainer installed. The strainer they use is the Forespar 906066 (40gpm). Its 6" round and looks like its perfect for the job. In my 2002 LSV its pretty tight so Im thinking this wont fit. Ive seen online Sherwood (18029) make a strainer as well that is significantly smaller. Sherwood does not list the gpm, but do note that you wont have any drop in flow of your cooling system. My concern with the Sherwood strainer is that it is too small. One big lump of weeds or a Target bag and this thing would shut down. Are there any pre 2005 LSV owners out there that have installed a strainer, if so, which one, and did it work? Did your engine run warmer than usual? Any details about mounting and performance would be awesome.

I placed one on my '02 had no issues. There are several threads on it, do a search on strainer.

Well being as the forum search is either hosed or the content lost I can't show you the strainer & install i got from McMaster-Carr. $28.50 is the price and it's identical to the Sherwwod unit but much less.

You are right. I did do a search for "strainer" and came up with nothing, which surprised me.

My biggest concern between the two strainers, is one is really big, which is hard to find a place for, but wouldnt clog easy. The smaller strainer is easy to fit but Im afraid would clog more frequently.

How has the performance been with your McMaster strainer? Where did you mount it?

I looked through the Archive for posts about it. Lots seem to be missing. Anyway, you can get the one from skidim or one like Razz mentioned. One of the posts said it was made for mcmaster carr by hypro. I searched on Hypro and got a couple of hits:

http://www.sprayerdepot.com/items.asp?Cc=1HS&iTpStatus=0&Tp=&Bc=

http://www.tractorsupply.com/sprayer-strainers/hypro-1-in-poly-strainer-with-80-mesh-stainless-steel-screen-2114114

If I needed one I'd look at the one skidim has and then try to match it somewhere else. These are not complicated and not hard to find. Good luck! If you find a good source, please post it.

Should be the same as Razz but cheaper. Here is a pic of showing where I placed mine on my '02 OB and a '10 LSV. crap cant get pcitrue to show up......learngin curve on new board..

It is in the How To..apearently search is not working correctly... https://forum.moomba.com/showthread.php?10725-Raw-Water-Intake-Strainer-Install&daysprune=-1

Here's the McMaster Carr Nylon T strainer with clear bowl; http://www.mcmaster.com/#inline-strainers/=dmrbon it's the 1 1/4 size in the 50 micron mesh. This strainer is exactly like the Sherwood at almost half the price. You will need two 90 degree elbows for install. Because the water hose has an internal wound wire stiffner I cut off two barbs on each elbow so I caould install all the way in. You'll need to remove the inlet hose at the Vdrive and turn the existing fitting vertical to make this work.

Thanks folks for all the photos, part numbers and install advise. I was shocked to find nothing when I did a search and it looks like the history of the forum is gone. Im going with the McMaster version and scrapping the larger bowl type in Mastercrafts. Thanks again guys.

Installed the strainer today just like the photos. Works awesome. Wow those fittings were tight to get in the hoses!

UPDATE - They are 29.63 now.
I just ordered a replacement as my bowl has gotten discolored to the point I cannot see through it anymore.
