How are you liking the 6500.2's? I would so like it if someone could throw up a demonstration video and/or audio of a side-by-side comparison of their previous setup with coax's or whatever, then the switch to the HLCD's - same song, same distance away from the boat, same volume, etc.

Next time out I will try to shoot a video while boarding with my Kodak Playsport camera.

BTW I absolutely love these though they rip at boarding distance and they are super smooth at surf distance.

Is that the factory panel where the key mounts?

Thanks Guys.

Ian I would assume it is factory it was like that when I bought the boat last year.

Yep - my ignition panel looks pretty much like that too. Well until I cut a big hole in it.

What cans did you use for the Kicker HLCDs??

New Guy
07-26-2011, 05:02 PM
They are just the bullet cans. They aren't the best quality but I didn't want to break the bank.

I really like how those are off set. Another one of those kicker set ups and that tower would look awesome! Nice work man.

Matt here is the link for the cans:

but I found them cheaper on Ebay.

Dusty I really want to do the Six Pack this winter but it is a pain to run that much wire in the small towers.

How much wire do you have going up there now? One wire for each side, or two? There are ways to go to a 6-pack without fishing more wire.

I can help...

Nice looking install!

Phil currently I have four sets of 14 gauge 2 conductor wire running up there (two up each leg). I am running the 650.4 with the mids on 1/2 and the horns on the other 1/2. Would I be able to parallel another set of mids in bringing the load on 1/2 the amp down to 2 ohms? This would be a really easy solution for me.

All in all I love the system it rips at 80ft and sounds great when we are surfing too.

Easy Peasy---

Heck yeah, here is what you want to do if you want to keep your current amp.

Using half of the amp, (AMP1 as an example) move your horn wiring to be parallel with your current midrange drivers. While doing this, go in and on the back of the horn crossover, change the sensitivity jumper from 0 to +6 dB. This increases the horn output to match up with the addition of the new mids. You are still showing 4-ohms per channel for this half of the amp, (the crossover keeps the impedance at 4-ohms despite looking like it is wired in parallel) and it is good for 175 watts RMS per channel. This frees up the second half of the amp. Then using the newly free second half of the amp, (AMP2 as an example) wire the new set of mids, one to each channel.

Going this route is a really good way to go. You have that large amp, but it is only driving 4-ohms on each chanel, so it will run real easy and relatively cool. You will have the same 700 watts of power available that you currently do, but the power will be used more efficiently, AND you will have the greater cone area from doubling your mids, so the result is going to sound WAY better than current. It is hard to explain, but know that the amp will get more power through the speakers when you add the extra mids, despite the fact that post-6-pack, you will still be at 4-ohms per channel, just like you are today...

This allows you to go and just use the same 4 sets of wires that you already have pulled.... Let us know when you do it, and let us know the thoughts on how it sounds!

Good Luck-

Phil

No new wiring, and the 6-pack will be complete. In this configuration, you will be running 390 watts

I did not want to reply back in July because I was told not to but I can let a small kitten out of the bag. I know of some new cans that are going to start shipping from a new can provider next month.

Its a good thing that you didn't post this yesterday because of buying one set of cans I would have been ordering a complete set.

New Guy

Nope not yet. I just got them hanging yesterday. I can't wait to get everything dialed in. The 6.5's look great on that tower because they aren't too big.

bergermaister

oooooooo purdy!
Ok - so how heavy is it? Able to raise and lower the tower without a helper?

Hmmmm - looks like you're missing some front interior pieces there as well...

New Guy
03-12-2012, 02:03 PM
Berg I think it maybe added 10lbs to the tower so it shouldn't be a problem to raise and lower it. Honestly though it is only down in the winter, when I want to work on it in a heated garage.

Yeah I needed to have some of the vinyl redone, it was getting pretty bad, plus it is easy to buff the interior with it out.

Finally got the amps and batteries mounted the way I wanted. I can tell you my next boat is going to be bigger just for stereo equipment. Getting 2- 13x20 amps mounted in there and looking nice is a b*tch.

No kidding! Tight man.... So what compartment is that where the batteries are hiding. Ours are real similar and I'm trying to picture where that is. Under the seat right in front of the passenger side storage compartment?

New Guy
04-18-2012, 10:27 AM
Yup I was able to get 3 group 34 wedged in there. They fit tightly between the hull and the back of the seat. You have to install them from the front and hook the wiring up while you are putting them in. I'm probably going to make a carpeted panel to hide them. I just hope I don't have to change them anytime soon. The reason I went with the 34 red tops is I get them free. We run them in the race car but after a year we put new ones in. I can pull the first cup holder out to access a duetcsh connector to charge them.

Was it unbearable inside the cabin or did you even try...

New Guy

They aren't bad inside. I typically turn the interiors down and just run the towers and subs when we are boarding. I have another video that is uploading now.
