Is it common for the paint to melt on the manifold of a new engine?

The boat I sold had a 5.0 ltr Merc in it and the paint was fine from the date I bought it to the date I sold it . It was a 1992 runabout with 365 hrs on it. In my opinion this doesnt sound normal espescially on a newer motor. Heres an idea, touch the manifold and you'll find out how hot it is!!:)

This is very common and there is nothing you can do about it. You should'nt worry about it either it will not hurt anything it just gets VERY hot there.
